I'll echo Skyrim and Oblivion on the last page.

I've finally got into Skyrim, but Oblivion still eludes me thanks to a few things I just flat out don't like about an otherwise fun game.

I've tried to get into getting into things, but in the end I just don't get it.

No seriously, I don't understand this frame of mind at all. Like the warthog on the first page, I'm either into something or I'm not. And trying to force it confuses me. Okay, so maybe you've heard good things about a series so you give it a try. At that point you either like it or you don't. What exactly is this feeling that some people apparently have where by all indications they don't like it, but for some reason also feel like they want to like it? Or something? Where does that come from? What does it feel like? Because it routinely puzzles me. It's like, one of the great mysteries of humanity.

I suppose there's two possible things: it's popular and like everyone likes it and so you feel like you should too, or it has some good elements alongside the things that're turning you off and you want to be able to enjoy those good things, but the bad/annoying things are just too much.

I don't think this thread is necessarily just about "things you want to like but don't."

It can also be about "things you enjoy, but don't have time for."

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."

There's a lot of things, but I've been really thinking about going to at least one Comic Con for a while and I just never really got into Cosplay. I've seen some great ones, but I've just never been that hardcore of a fan. Oh, and I never got into collecting stuff like action figures and props from a series. DV Ds, shirts, certain accessories like a cover or cup, plushies, and posters are as far I go.

I've tried to get into getting into things, but in the end I just don't get it.

There can be a couple of reasons...

- It has all the makings of something you like but, for some reason, which is mysterious even to you, you can't like it. In this case, it's not so much people deciding to themselves that they should like something as much as they legitimately can't understand why they don't.

- "I would like this so much more if it weren't for that one little thing which ruins the whole affair." For example, a Romantic Plot Tumor.

- You hear about something and think it sounds like something right up your alley, and you're disappointed when the reality doesn't measure up to your preconceptions. But you hang on because you hope that will change. Sometimes, it doesn't work out and you end up with an "Ugh, I really wanted to get into this."

Comic books. I've watched superhero cartoons for years, but I really don't have the patience to read comic books. It's just so much continuity.

@wuggles: I'm the same way. I love the Marvel and DC cartoons, but the comics make me wanna pull my hair out with the damn retcons, too many universes, and too many writers fucking up my favorite characters.

Along the lines of what Mukora described up there, Monster. I saw a few episodes towards the middle of it when it was still up on Sci-Fi's anime block, and I loved it. I really want to see it from the start, but it's not on TV anymore and I'm too broke to shell out for DVDs. :(

Creating new Yack Fest threads.

I already post a lot here, but it seems like every subject already has a thread. The only ones I could think of are missing sister threads or variations of different threads. In the end, I don't create them. Both the times I created one were met with questioning on why I would make the thread. It's probably better that I don't create new threads here at all.

Homestuck.

It's the same case as Final Fantasy VI: Sure, there might be a plethora of amusement and genius there, but the opening stage is just so painful to go through that I can't stay hooked until the good parts. Also, there are installments to both (different webcomics, different FF titles) which are less of a hassle to follow but still rewarding in their own right.

Same here but also with manga as well. Considering I do like reading books though, maybe I'm just weird like that. :|

Man there are a lot of people really wanting to get into Homestuck but having a block for it. I had the same ordeal for about three years after I discovered it because I was frustrated over John barely doing anything noteworthy for 100+ panels and didn't realize it'd get so...lores-from-universe-to-universe-scale. I didn't even think they'd go past what I thought was the "virtual reality game," to be honest. After passing this Rose page(contains intermittent flashes), I really got into it though. Nonetheless, much of it does involve 13-year-olds acting dumb, even if they don't usually act 13.

In the case of anime/manga overall, picking a genre—or several genres at once (Shoujo - Gals, Shounen - Guys, Seinen - Men, Josei - Women, Comedy, Tragedy, Fantasy, Psychology, Slice of Life, Sports, etc.)—might help. That's easier for manga than anime, though, since there are sites like Mangafox and BakaUpdates.

Personally, I haven't been able to get into Kuroko No Basuke, since kind of bored me, even though it was enjoyable enough...but eh. It's one of those good and passionate but not-heavily-plot-involved magical!sports shows, for which I usually need the characters to grab me. But I do want to try since joining large fandoms are usually fun for me. Maybe if I sit down and get to Kise or Aomine.

I also regret not having been able to get into Puella Magi Madoka Magica back when it was airing, mostly because of a friend who really wanted to fangirl about it with me. I watched the likes of Princess Tutu and Utakata, but Madoka Magica... I'll try again though, if only because of the leftover regret.

Also Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I feel bad for saying it, since everyone seems to love it, but I bought like 10 of the volumes and read them right after watching and loving the first FMA anime back in middle school and I just...still can't get into it. But it has more of a fast pace, and an action/adventurous vibe, while one of the things that attracted me to the first FMA anime was the further character and world exploration within it.

Probably have more but that's all I can think of.
