Suggestion: Real Life.Mean Character Nice Actor

How about this image for Real Life / Mean Character, Nice Actor?

I figured a composite image of the character that the actor portrays and the actor in real life is one of the few things that would work, so I combined an image of Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street series, and an image of Robert Englund in real life being interviewed about the role. The contrast is obvious. Freddy looks obviously evil, while Englund is smiling and being playful. The fact that he's wearing the glove serves to show that it really is him underneath all the make-up.

While Fred looks more like Squick to me, he doesn't look like a person you want to be around - supporting it.

I like. Freddy looks like, well, Freddy, while Robert looks like somebody's favorite uncle.

I like it, same reason as [up]

Definitely! Easily recommending this suggestion.

Already thrown my support behind Robert, but here's Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch for some Image Links fodder.

I think it shows less of both sides.

Hamilton is weaker.

Anyhow, One, Two, Freddy's now coming for the readers of the page. Caption?

How about something like:

Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger: nightmare monster. Robert Englund in real life: friendly actor.

Simple, but it gets the point across.

Better than nothing... but it honestly just says "with and without makeup" to me.

There's got to be a picture of the Joker taking pictures with fans or something out there. I dunno.

[up] That's what I'm thinking. I don't like the image, because he doesn't look particularly nice. Just out of costume. Anyone is going to be comparatively better than a nightmare monster.

...But we can do worse, and since it's already up, meh. I don't think it'll cause misuse or anything like that.

If it's a concern, I think I've found an even better one.

A troper on the discussion page suggested a picture of Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, carrying a five-year old fan named Edison on his shoulders.

Here's the composite I made. It shows a bit less of the evil character, but even more of the nice actor.

Suggested caption: Tom Hiddleston as Loki: power-hungry world conquerer. Tom Hiddleston in real life: friend to all children.

That's no better than Freddie.

Also, the objections come off as very hair-splitty.

Loki's not bad but the contrast between Freddy and Robert is more striking.

I put the star on this one...seems like we're down to niggling at this point and we've got one on the page now that works well.

Shall we go with the caption I suggested for Freddy Krueger / Robert Englund then, or leave it captionless?

I don't think it's hair-splitting to be concerned that the non-Freddie picture doesn't seem nice at all, just... not as scary as he is in Freddie makeup. Which says... kinda literally nothing.

Take a look through here, it's a gallary of behind-the-scenes pictures of sets a lot of which seem like they'd fit a lot better since the people are joking around and acting... well, a lot nicer than "older gentleman wearing a claw." http://imgur.com/gallery/jZWbj

I'm sorry, but these images don't have a better "nice-mean" contrast than the Freddie one.

Also, facial expressions matter.

I don't think I'm splitting hairs. I'm saying that he doesn't look nice, just out of make-up. Anyone is going to look comparatively nicer.

I don't think it'll actually be an issue, given the name of the trope, it's just that I don't think the image is indicative of the trope. But I think it makes the page look better.

I don't think any suggestion comes close to the current one. One looks clearly Evil, and one looks like a very nice fellow. That both are wearing claws only links them together, and reinforces the actor part.
