Are we still acting like the Grammys are important?

To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."

"Who The Hell is Arcade Fire?" Never Forget

Anyway, I feel like Bowie is going to posthumously grab both rock awards, because... well... you know. Because he's better than the other nominees.

It's not often that I find myself thinking "man, I kinda hope Mike Posner wins a Grammy."

And yeah, the relevance of the awards is kind of questionable. But it's a good warmup for the real deal when Academy Awards roll around.

much as I love Twenty-One Pilots, neither of those songs nominated of theirs are even close to being some of their best work, and "Heathens" isn't even a rock song.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

[up][up][up][up]Well, it seems important for people who only have begun intensely following the music industry, especially those who are still in their teens. They're still too new to the music industry to understand what the Grammys truly stand for. I'm speaking partly from personal experience.

I assume those in their teens are who the Grammys are trying to appeal to. Having James Corden to host the event is an obvious evidence to that case, considering that he's the first new Grammys host in what felt like a millennium.

I genuinely didn't expect "Sucker for Pain" & "Tiimmy Turner" to be on the list (even as low as they are). Those songs fell fast.

I'm also surprised that "Controlla" is higher than "For Free".

I was honestly expecting "Cheap Thrills" to make the top ten over "Can't Stop the Feeling!" Then again, the latter song did stay in the top twenty for a while.

[up] Not just that, but the latter song was still in the top 20 until this week.

Surprised that "Love Yourself" was number one.

Although it spent only two weeks at #1, a few factors went into "Love Yourself" being the top song of the year. First off, its entire run took place during the 2016 chart year—it debuted in the top ten in December and ended up spending 24 weeks in that region. It then went on to spend 41 total weeks on the chart in general. While songs like "One Dance" and "Closer" had longer runs at the summit, their respective overall longevities throughout the chart year just could not measure up. And that's why Bieber took over the top two this year.

As for "Can't Stop the Feeling!", I'm pretty sure its resurgence was caused by Trolls's release in theaters last month. Timberlake and his team knew what they were doing by releasing the song months ahead.

Is it too early to predict where "24K Magic", "Don't Wanna Know" & "Black Beatles" will end up next year?

[up]Not at all. "What Do You Mean", "Hotline Bling" & "The Hills" reached their peak positions on the weekly Hot 100 before November 2015 but they still managed to grab spots on the Year-End Hot 100 of 2016.

I think the songs you named have a chance to enter the Year-End Hot 100 of 2017 if they manage to remain in the Top 10 until the second week of January at the very least.

On an unrelated not, I find it amusing that the name of this year's top song is a not-so-subtle insult (Love Yourself), and the name of this year's second top song is an apology (Sorry). As if the latter is an apologetic response to the former.

Justin Bieber is only the third artist to have songs at #1 and #2 on the Year-End Hot 100. The first two were The Beatles and Usher.

[up] I don't think staying in the top 10 that long is even necessary. "Perfect" grabbed the #100 spot this year after peaking at #10 for one week in the 2015 chart year.

I wonder if any songs on the year-end chart will have even higher positions in 2017. I think "Starving" is a safe bet.

I find it interesting that "Bad Things" samples "Out of My Head" of all Fastball songs, as opposed to "The Way," which they're generally better known for. I'm guessing the latter song is a bit more difficult to take out of its original context?

Is it me? Or does every Alessia Cara single that she has co-written screams "I'm trying so hard to reach misunderstood teens and young adults! Accept me!" or something along that line?

Lorde has done the same thing but with much more wit, at least.
