I still say a movie about the trials of Horus.
Though they can leave out the salad jacking.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceWhy Horus?

The road goes ever on. -TolkienMore importantly, why leave out the salad jacking? That's the kind of weird shit that'd be right up the alley of 90's Disney.
We have a thread that is essentially this already.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.
Because out of all the Egyptian Myths, the trials of Horus have the most leeway of being adaptable while sticking true to the myths and being entertaining at the same time.
I do think Disney does have standards when I comes to content though. Most movie going audiences don't want to see the main chracter jizzing in his uncles salad to win a stupid bet.
They also probably wouldn't want to see hot, sweatty incestial mansex ethier.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceWell he doesn't have to jizz in the salad obviously. Disney has been known to take tactful liberties.
So the whole "get the sperm in the others body" gets changed to the more anachronistic Mayonassie?
Or Cocainum?

I'm having to learn to pay the priceHe could prove his dominance by sneaking mayo into Set's salad because Set is lactose intolerant or something.
I mean really, this is the company that turned Zeus into something G-rated.
But I could look past that because of Rule of Funny
Much like wheels in The Emperors New Groove
I'm having to learn to pay the priceHe could just pee in it, maybe?
Though a Disneyfied adaptation of the Horus or Osiris story would be cool.
How about Finnish Mythology? I Remember reading about it in some Dungeons & Dragons books, and it sounded fascinating (very similar to Norse myths) but AFAIK, the only modern production of it was the live action movie known (in English) as The Day the Earth Froze.

I don't know. A Disney movie about Horus might wind up as the awakening of a lot of furry girls, especially if they give him a Heroic Build.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI observed in the other thread that Louhi is pretty much a textbook Disney Villain—she's motivated by little more than For the Evulz, is a powerful sorceress, and turns into a giant monster right before the heroes defeat her.
If that is done, I hope there's a song explaining what a Sampo is this time.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatBut aren't the Finnish tales pretty dark? The Kullervo story, in particular (another inspiration for Turin Turambar, the source of my handle). I don't know if Disney would put a scene of the hero bathing in dragon's blood in a movie either.

Hercules is quite different from the traditional myths, what with lacking the whole "killing his whole family" thing. So changing and leaving out stuff is expected.
Though if the hero served as inspiration for Turin, well then, they may as well make up an original story with how much they'd be changing.
A Disney movie about Mayan mythology (based on El Popol Vuh for example) would kick all kinds of ass if done right.

@stinger: But Kullervo is repeatedly abused by everyone (like Cinderella, but Cinderella didn't have magical powers) and ends up sleeping with his sister.

The road goes ever on. -TolkienThe Emperors New Groove used to be essentially The Prince And The Pauper set against an ancient Incan setting, but the staff dug themselves into a hole. I'd love to see them take on the Aztecs.
I'm familiar with Latin American comics, and there are a lot of characters in those with a style of humor like we see in "Emperor" (Condorito, for instance.) So maybe that's what they were going for.

I'd want to see a Disney version of David of Sasun (if they're looking for really obscure ones, obscure if you're not Armenian that is). I could see it being in the vein of Prince Of Egypt (so maybe Dreamworks could do it...though modern Dreamworks might want to inject too much pop culture.)

My tropes launched: https://surenity2.blogspot.com/2021/02/my-tropes-on-tv-tropes.htmlI'd like to point out that D&D most likely does not reflect Finnish mythology very accurately Heck, nobody is sure what Finnish mythology was truly like since it was passed down by words and poems instead of being written down. Kalevala is based on multiple poems that author(I forgot how to spell Lönrot/Lönnrut/whatever's name) compiled together and took creative liberties to make them connected.
Also, Kullervo's story is most darkest thing in Kalevala, while it has some dark stuff(like suicide drowning and other deaths) most of other stuff isn't as dark.

Well, why not? There's already a movie based (loosely) on the Heracles/Hercules legend and one based on Mulan, also another one (The Sword In The Stone) based on the Arthurian legend.
Now personally, I think, from researching Sigurd The Dragon Slayer for my novel, that it would make a great Disney animated movie. I mean, look at what it has:
Now, obviously certain liberties would have to be taken (ie no mention of the fact that Sigurd's father had an incestuous relationship with his sister and they had a kid, because no way are parents gonna let their kids see that.)
Also, he should end up with the first girl. Obviously, the torture scenes will be cut. Loki could be the comic relief.
Does anyone have any other ideas for legends they think would make great Disney movies with a little tweaking?
