Jackass. I remember when I first ate out America, I didn't realize that serving staff were paid via tipping, so I tipped my usual British rate (8%-10%) for a meal with fairly good service. We left, and the person I was with finally said something, explained it to me, so I went back and apologized and made up the difference.
I really loath low-tippers.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiThat's low. Low for the pastor and low for Applebees. I can't imagine anything but condemnation for that chick who stiffed the tip.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimThis is one of the many reasons why restaurants (or, really, everywhere) should abolish the idea that "the customer is always right."
The fact that she was fired over this is just compounding injury onto insult.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. That was pretty messed up.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. The guy was kind of an asshole, but Applebee's are goddamn idiotic. What the hell were they actually thinking?
WELCOME TO MEME HELL!!!@Achaemenid: That happened to me too! I felt so guilty afterwards. That guy's an absolute ass.
This is not a signature! The title of this thread is misleading. It put me in mind of the Nunnery.
That is all.
Devil's advocate time: although, yes, the pastor was a jackass, I can see why a restaurant might not want its waiters to put online evidence of clients — with their names visible — being asses. Even putting the privacy concerns aside, publicly embarrassing customers is not a great policy.
If the waitress had censored from the image the name of the pastor, I'd have no issues with this; the name was recognizable, and that was a problem.
But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. It's this kind of thing that reminds me why Christians in America are often viewed as morons.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.The company can just ask her to take the image down/reup the image with the name censored. Firing her for that only brings the thing into attention and make it even more embarrassing for all parties involved.
EDIT: Yeah okay I was wrong. Forget I said a word.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. As a Christian, I think that somebody using their faith as an excuse to be rude and not pay what they owe ought to be publicly rebuked.
Last I knew, the pastor's only official statement said she was sorry she'd brought disgrace to her church. So in other words, she apologizes to her congregation for being caught, not to the server she stiffed and got fired.
Fresh-eyed movie blogStiffed by God sounds like a religious themed porno. Just sayin'.
See, I figured it was the title of a book by Dawkins or something.

Blue-and-Orange Morality! It's my new favorite trope! Also, it's my signature trope! It's also going to be my Catchphrase!Paul says a workman is worth his wages.
Fresh-eyed movie blogAgain, I am not justifying in any way what the pastor did; but I can see why a restaurant would not want waiters doing stuff like this.
EDIT: Also, apparently the pastor is the head of a 15-member church who published some religious pamphlets through vanity press.
Not that this matters much — I am pretty sure that some clergy of virtually all denominations have done similarly ill-advised things, or far worse ones — but still.

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas. And you ignored the second part of my post, where firing her will just bring this to everybody's attention and further embarrassing everybody, esp. the pastor in question.
Of course the restaurant wouldn't want their waitresses to pull something like this. But instant termination is not the best option, both for the pastor and the restaurant.

The pastor said it was a "lapse in my character and judgement". Yet she hasn't appologized, even though the waitress is now out of a job. Okay fair enough it shouldn't of been put up online but it was disgraceful carry on in the first place.

Applebee's waitress gets fired over receipt showing an idiotic message written by a pastor.
And apparently it's backfiring on Applebee's.
