They look like the actual turtles to me.

The tropes is about a Captain Ersatz being used as a cameo instead of the actual character. If they're really the turtles, it's not an example.

The problem with all these tropes is that they are all very close to each other.

Does Lawyer-Friendly Cameo really require an Captain Ersatz?

[up] Reading over the description and some of the examples, it seems to. How's this?

Interesting. I read the definition, specifically this part: "You may find characters who are not merely an imitation of a character from a popular show, film, or comic, but literally are that character. Somehow. " to mean that a Lawyer Friendly Cameo is not a Captain Ersatz of Expy. It's the actual character from the other work.

In that case, the page image is an excellent example and a good illustration. It's the real TMNT in the background, not a copy of them.

IIRC Archie had the license to TMNT at some point, and were making the most of that license (much like how they're about to do a crossover between their Sonic universe and their Mega Man comics). Disregard the mind-blowing idea that it's a comic based on a cartoon based on a comic, of course, but as far as I know, they were totally within their rights to make this gag (I am not a lawyer, but it seems legit).

[up][up] It can also be interpreted as an Ersatz that is so alike to the other character as to be proactively that character, or at least be mistaken for them.

I don't get it. How does this not illustrate?

Reading the description, it fits perfectly.

[up][up]gave a possible explanation as to why it doesn't illustrate.

Disneyverse Kano should work. Then again, maybe that's not a perfect fit in that most cameo characters in the movie have been paid for.

I'm from Piedmont. No relation with Piedmon, mind you!

Totally not Kano, as he's listed as "Cyborg" in the credits of Wreck It Ralph.
