So, I've been wondering how the chronology evens out. The manga (we should talk about it too!) has Totsuka alive, but unable to fight. It also seems to have no main character, instead focusing on all of Homura's members.

Hmmm, it doesn't have a separate page. Time for Wiki Magic!

[up][up][up]And some people think Het Is Ew, but you have to get used to it if you want to enjoy a perfectly good series. The same applies to gratuitous Ho Yay fanservice.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Exactly. I'm not a Ho Yay fan, but by "not being a fan" it just means I like all pairings equally much as Heterosexual pairings. (Spirit Day!) If people can't take it, they're not "homophobic". They're kind of just being asses.

I've known about it since the beginning. But I just refused to believe it.

Not necessarily. That is a little harsh.

I've dropped series for less when they weren't otherwise that interesting.

It's probably the fanbase more than anything else that would bother me though. There always seems to be an argument with shipping, yuri fans, yaoi fans etc.

That being said, if a show isn't appealing to you, you're probably better off dropping it quietly.

Please note:

  • I'm ordinarily completely indifferent to Ho Yay of either kind.
  • This is really pretty low level Ho Yay.
  • I'm not talking about any of you above.

I'm not talking about you. And of course, I'm not blaming anyone for dropping the show. I myself don't find the plot spectacular in any way, but it's okay, and I plan to stick to it because it hasn't done anything to tell me otherwise to drop it. Also, I want to know the truth and this anime gave me many questions that I of course want answered. But of course I'll have to be a little harsh to people (especially those on MAL) who go all "OMG WHY IS NEKO WEARING CLOTHES NOW. I LIKE HER BETTER WHEN SHE WAS NAKED NOW SHE'S SO SHALLOW MEH. ALSO YAOI?! DROPPED."

That's probably the kind of fans I was talking about.

They're too loud in some fanbases.

[up][up] Neko has to start wearing clothes cause it's worrisome enough that I may forget that she's all naked in the ED and thus forget to shut it off before my family sees me watching cartoon with naked people.

The main hassle with fanservice for the boys is that skimpily clothed girls (especially naked ones) tend to raise (way) more eyebrows than shirtless dudes. (Unless they're at the beach.)

Not to mention that other people tend to think you're (Xtra) weird for watching cartoon porn.

That said, since ?mostly male? viewers are giving grief to K for having Ho Yay despite having a naked catgirl prancing about, I hope to God that female viewers are also being as critical for all the Les Yay series and way too many Harem series with barely anything for female viewers to appreciate.

Female viewers generally don't bother even trying out harem series, I believe. And if they do, they generally know what they're getting into.

I try, but I get weird looks from family and friends cause of the camera focuses on particular areas of the female physique - breasts, crotch, butt.

Recently, I finished watching Mirai Nikki on the living room's plasma tv and was unlucky enough for cousins to pass by when the screen was showing the female lead in... uh questionable positioning. Cue me telling 'em - I was watching this show for the action stuff, not THAT.

Granted, romantic stuff that female like also makes a lot of people squirm, but they have to be listening to what the characters are saying. In the case of what boys like, it's practically impossible to keep people from noticing breasts and panty shots.

I watch harem series sometimes, because there are so many of them that harem series actually have to stand out for people to watch them (so the harem series I get myself into can be to some extent good, e.g. Steins;Gate), as compared to reverse harems or shoujo which are more rare and thus have much lower quality in terms of plot and stuff. And of course, I know they're harems and so I am not critical of them, because that's what they're supposed to be. I don't really bother much about Neko being naked either, and I actually liked the Les Yay in Madoka (because love is love, whatever gender it is, yada yada).

Thus I do not get it when people whine about the Ho Yay in K. Which is actually pretty mild.

I am bothered by Ho Yay quite lot, but K is far from my limit and Neko saves a day (Naked or not It doesn't realy metter), so as long as amount of that doesn't exceed Tiger And Bunny I am ok with that.

As long as I feel that the media in question wants to entertain both genders, I really feel inclined to give it a shot, because it takes more thought and work having to appeal to both boys and girls (and especially to not alienate either).

That said, female viewers are more used to Male Gaze in media than male viewers are to Female Gaze, so I will tolerate some complaining from the boys (cause they've been more spoiled by media). In the case of K though, there's a 100% naked girl running around for 50% of episode 2, so yeah - I just don't feel as usually inclined to tolerate such Double Standard whinging when it comes to K.

Personally I find female-oriented fanservice amusing.

Episode 3: Plot! There's lots of terminology that I hope will be explained properly soon, but it's easy to get the gist. There's also some other tidbits of information, which is nice. Still, there's a lot of dangling plot threads, and I hope they can tie them all up good.

Kuro fanboying over his King was hilarious.

And, while I don't really agree with it (fully), a winning comment: Got to hand it to his show, its title K is pretty much the exact word I say when every episode ends.

Eventually, of course, but we've only got like two dozen tropes right now. It can wait.

This has been Exposition Week for me. Btoom!, SAO, Shinsekai Yori, Zetsuen no Tempest, Psycho Pass and K have had an exposition episode. That's almost all the shows I'm currently watching (Jojo and Kamisama Hajimemashita).

I've read somewhere (probably /a/) that maybe the Swords of Damocles are constantly in the sky so the Kings have to make sure to keep it steady or else they fall. Can anyone confirm this? (and I'm loving and being disturbed by the anons reactions to Kuroh)

There's a character page now, so I'm kind of moving the character-related tropes to there. It's still very skimpy right now, though.

[up][up] Re: Sword of Damocles I got that impression too, based off the conversation between the Blue and Red Kings. Blue said Red was drawing too much power and is risking making another gigantic crater.

[up]So if there are gigantic sword sfoating around the sky than it's confirmed mormal people cannot see magic. Hence why Neko wasn't seen by anyone else in episode 2? But the preview shows her interacting with others so I'm not certain...

Personaly thing that swords are manifestation of their magic. When they doesn't use magic there aren't any. When they use too much...BANG! Thats my impresion, though agree about being invisible.

I think the swords are a part of what makes them "kings". They come with kingship so to speak.

Everyone knows the legend right? This dude was talking to the tyrant of Syracusae, and was like "Your job is awesome! You get the best food, pretty women, and get to tell everyone what to do!" And Hieron is like "Okay Damocles, want to see what my job is like?"

So they switch, and Damocles sits down to eat, only then he notices that above his head there's hanging a sword, suspended by a single human hair. This naturally makes him lose his appetite since he can't help but worry about the thing falling. So he can't enjoy his food, and Hieron basicaly says "Yeah, that's what my life is like."

Cannot remember if those hugeass swords were over the Blue and Red Kings' locations.

I'll willingly accept the appropriation of the legend IF the swords are always over the color kings' heads, and not say... floating randomly all over the place or stuck over somewhere permanently.

Should be like a captain and his ship. Ship goes down, captain goes down with it. Sword falls, king dies, too - not just innocent civilians.

Oh yeah, if the swords are where the kings are - I rec they all be banished to a deserted island and just communicate with the rest of civilization via satellite.

The swords materialize above where the Kings are, yeah. In Episode 1, the Sword clearly materialized over the glass rooftop above Mikoto's head.

I think it's quite likely that if the sword falls, the King will die, too (along with the tons of civilians of course). Mikoto seems like quite the death-seeker to me.

I've known about it since the beginning. But I just refused to believe it.

Page 3: Everybody complains about the naked catgirl.

"There's a time and place for everything," they said.

"The ED's just tasteless," they said.

"The pandering is despicable," they said.

Page 8: Well, how do you like the complete 180 turn from girls to guys huh!?! Your wish was granted! An episode with almost no catgirl nudity, but filled with handsome men staring longingly at each other!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHH!!! Glorious hypocrisy!!!!
