Team Pet creation!

  • Name: Phil
  • Appearance: I can't do time travel, okay?
  • Personality: Phil is a pretty timid groundhog and is quite literally scared of his own shadow. He doesn't do much because he's, well, a groundhog, but he is willing to help out. That is, as long as he doesn't see his shadow.
  • Holiday: Groundhog Day
  • Any Special Powers: Weather and temperature control. Nothing drastic like striking his enemies down with lightning. He can just change the temperature and make the next day a day of rain, snow, etc.
  • Additional Information: Did I mention he cannot travel through time?

[up][up] I'm sure that won't be a problem. As Hogfather teaches us, many holidays have grim bloodsoaked origins. Maybe we could make it a plot point...

I'mma start a Discussion thread for this bad boy. Seems we got a fair amount of champions to get this thing off the ground.

Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?

Why some of the GMs around here don't provide links to new threads?

  • Name: Summer
  • Appearance: Summer has the appearance of a teenage girl, lean and athletic, with red hair and hazel eyes. She has very tan skin, looking like someone who has been laying out in the sun for hours.
  • Personality: Perpetually excitable and bubbly, and unfailing optimistic; however, she is also easily distracted and often doesn't pay attention, spending much of her time daydreaming.
  • Holiday: Spring Equinox
  • Any Special Powers: Summer can control the heat in an area, and manipulate existing fires (though she can't create her own).

  • Name: St. Cothraige, "Paddy"
  • Appearance: At first glance one might call him a healthy man of a hundred and twenty. A skinny and pale old man in a grandfather shirt wearing tweed flatcap and coat. Often with a Shillelagh. Curly hair, long greyed though subtle tints hint that it was once Red. His ears stand out. His eyebrows have grown rather wild and his eyelids weary. Wrinkles and age give a rather wizened appearance. He also wears a crufix and carries a rosary.
  • Personality: A grumpy old man in many respects, especially when sober. Where other holidays have come and gone over the years, he's held on to his memories. He remembers when Halloween went by Samhain and when advent was a time of fasting. He prefers both how they used to be. He's resided in Boston the last hundred fifty years and is slowly forgetting both his native and adopted tongues for English, even his accent shifted to something more general North American, if somewhat more inclined towards Boston. He's not happy about this. He has also picked up a bit of French and Spanish, which confuses him more than anything. He doesn't like being confused. He's turned to the drink and resents even that.
  • Holiday: Saint Patrick's Day.
  • Special Powers: His blessing and concencration; snakes and foul beasts can be driven away and objects can be stow protection from things or general luck that comes in odd forms. He can also hold his liquor exceedingly well and can pick a fight with men half his age with enough in him. With his Shillelagh, he's to be feared.

Man, I really need to kill some time. I'm hoping an RP will do. Anyway, here's my idea:

  • Name: Colombus (Aka Cristobal Colon)
  • Appearance: A hook-nosed, middle aged European man in 15th-century clothing
  • Personality: proud and abrasive
  • Holiday: Colombus Day, aka The Discovery of America
  • Any Special Powers: Expert mariner. He's also a ghost, though he can materialize thanks to being a Personification of a Holiday
  • Additional Information: Disappointed when he died (he lost much of his fortune and reputation) his soul still wanders the Americas (btw, he's pissed they only named one country and not the whole thing after him.) The recent discovery that Vikings had arrived first didn't make him happy either.

Hey, I'm interested in playing. Is it okay if I choose an archaic holiday or Pagan holiday?

I'm interested in some of these festivals...

  • Saturnalia (Roman Winter Solstice)
  • Yule (Norse Winter Solstice)
  • Tanabata (Japanese Shinto Star Festival)
  • Beltaine (Celtic Spring and Fertility Festival)

I just hope that Saturnalia and Yule are acceptable, or are they too close to Christmas?

I'm not DM but I think it's implied that the Holidays are dynamic and are shaped by the way people celebrate them over time, thus why Jangles is Spanish instead of Mesoamerican. So Yule and Saturnia would presumably have been absorbed into Christmas, Samhain and Beltaine into Halloween and Easter respectively.

So I'd recommend going for Tanabata which to my knowledge has been more or less consistantly celebrated.

I'll also warn that you should be patient as the DM can be slow getting back so don't panic is he is slow.

I have a question... could we play as alien holidays...? Or are we limited to strictly human ones? :P

Once again, I'm not GM, but I'm assuming characters are limited to non-fictional holidays, human or otherwise.

Say, does our story have anything to do with the whole 2012 Mayan Calender Prophecy? If so, we'd better hurry, because that supposedly takes place December 12 (I think.)

Btw, if the GM needs an assistant (due to lack of free time, etc.) I'm available. Of course I would need to be told plot points ahead of time, but we can PM each other for those (and I would not give anything away before its moment.)
