They have about fourteen hours to reach their goal of $1,000,000. They are less than halfway there.

Just giving this a signal boost. Even if you can't donate, you know someone who probably can.

Oh come on, the collective will of people in a certain group raised twice that amount of money in 2 days. This can totally happen if we spread the word.

Also, this isn't really a discussion topic unless you're saying something like "I'm posting the link on facebook/twitter/whatever other social networking profile is on".

I'd think that these types of lands would have government protection.

How did it get taken, anyway? I thought tribal lands were off-limits to a large extent.

@0dd, Trivialis: No, they weren't reservation lands. It was publicly owned by someone sympathetic to them previously, but now the land is going up for sale.

It's gone up from 366,000 to about 367,000 since I last checked it... an hour ago. Encouraging, but it could still be a little faster. Time to do my rounds.

Edit: Now it's 368,000. Either a lot of people came up at the same time or someone wealthy stepped in.

Some of it already is. The Black Hills encompass a lot of land, some of which is national parks or protected for some reason or another. The rest is owned by other people, and its part of this that is up for sale so the tribes in the area are trying to buy it before someone else does.

This is the sort of thing that makes me hate hypercapitalism.

I've already donated a total of $30 to this thing.

I'd just like to note that the minimum donation is $1, but $5 and up get people rewards for their charity.

Just cracked 377,000. Six hours, $7000. The pace is picking up.

Nearly at $379,040. Now at $2000 an hour. I hope this trend continues.

They still won't make it though, not without a CRAZY huge benefactor.

It's now averaging about $1000 every fifteen minutes.

For now, I am accepting the fact that this effort, though valiant, came too little too late.
