I quite liked the soundtrack of this Sega Genesis game called Task Force Harrier that I had back in the day. However, you'll be lucky to find anything about this game online, let alone music.
Digimon World 2 also has a great soundtrack.
Quest 64, easily. Despite using Midis, it really did well on that front.
Lagoon as well. Not that SNES RPG's were that surprising to have nice soundtracks.
Quest 64 threadVG Music of the Day (An awesome youtube channel you should be ashamed of not being subscribed to) highlights some amazing tunes from games you've never heard of.
For examps; Fire Wire from "Soukaigai", Final Area from "Shatterhand", Petals from "Noitu Love", Yo-Kai disco from "Mamoru Has Been Cursed", my personal favorite Hades Castle from Death Smiles, Rendezvous from "Sora" and whatever the heck this is.

I definitely think World Of Goo qualifies. Its soundtrack is so amazing for how simple its premise is.
My favorite piece of music from the soundtrack: Cog in the Machine.
Icon by Civvi the Civilian! To The Moon has one of the most emotional and touching soundtracks I've ever heard. And combined with the storyline, well...
This song, and the main theme stand out most for me.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Ohhh snapadoodle. I'll be here a while.
- Opoona. I've mentioned several times before that I really love this game, and one of the reasons is the music. It has some fantastic tracks courtesy of Basiscape, but what really makes the music work is the lively, wonderful performances of the orchestra. Some great tracks:
- Blue Desert Hotel
- Creola's Hut
- Ocean Bottom Pass
- Partizans' Secret Hideout
- Fairy Pass: The Spirit Poem
- Saving the best for last: Fonthene DAT GUITAR.
- Dragon Seeds. This PS 1 game did something really unusual: It based its soundtrack very heavily on Sampling. This gave it a really unique song as a whole. And since I've yet to find the credits roll in this game, I don't know who to thank for it!
- Temple of the Ancients
- Junk Shop ("DESTROY!")
- Memory Forest (This one reminds me of the Velvet Room music from Persona 4.)
- Battle on the Plane of Holy
- Guardian: Battle with the City Guard
- Monster Racers. I'm not sure how this game slipped under the radars of roughly everyone on the planet. It's a highly unique take on RP Gs in general, with knife-sharp writing that's frequently hilarious. Also, some good music.
- Europe
- Africa
- Intro Theme A
- Aquatica
- Eurasia (My personal favorite)
- Magicians Quest Mysterious Times. This Animal Crossing-esque game actually kind of has two soundtracks: One, an "overworld" soundtrack composed of quite lovely remixes of various classical pieces. The other is an 80-strong library of original compositions, which you can play around town on various instruments or listen to in your room! Both are nice, but the original pieces are actually pretty good. Sadly, none of them are on You Tube! What a pity.

"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaKing Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame series' tracks are beautiful. An example:

Okage had a great soundtrack. Great story too. A shame the game was so damn flawed.
Sadly, the only thing this makes me think of is purple.

Extra 1: Poochy Ain't StupidAnd also from Cave, Akai Katana: (Sorry about the double post, but the forum will only let me put one YouTube video per post)
Edit: Forget it, I'll just post a list of links. Otherwise I'm gonna fill up the entire first page of this thread.
- Also from Cave:
- Battle for the Last. There's also a vocal version on the OST.
- Akai Katana's boss battle music
- Stage 5 from Akai Katana. I recommend listening to the Stage 1 theme (at the top of this post) before this one.
- Inazuma Eleven: Actually only obscure in the West; it practically prints money in East Asia, both in and outside of Japan. But I digress. Anyways, most of the music is composed by Yasunori Mitsuda - you may have heard of him from Kid Icarus Uprising. Like KI:U, the entire soundtrack is made of awesome, but here's a couple selections:
- Raimon's Power (雷門の力)
- Running Inazuma (走るイナズマ)
- Roar of the Pitch (ピッチの轟き)
- Birth (誕生)
- Powerhouses of the World (世界の強豪たち)
- And a couple tracks not done by Mitsuda:
- Fight! Raimon Soccer Club!! (戦え!雷門サッカー部!!)
- Stir Up a Revolution! (革命を起こせ!)
- jubeat: Again, popular in Asia, obscure in the West.

Extra 1: Poochy Ain't StupidI heard of Inazuma 11 before, but I can't remembe-oh yeah, it was on a Shaolin Soccer vid, it kept being mentioned.
I used to describe Inazuma Eleven to people as "Disgaea with soccer". But come to think of it, "Disgaea meets Shaolin Soccer" is probably much more accurate. I'm gonna have to use that from now on. Thanks!
Extra 1: Poochy Ain't StupidThank you for reminding me that it has been too long since I last watched Shaolin Soccer.
Man, lots of pretty links to click in this thread. Good-bye free time!
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaNeo Tokyo. It's a mod for Half Life 2, and it's got an absolutely wonderful soundtrack.
This is a track from the PS 1 racing game Firebugs, a game I enjoyed a lot as a kid. The soundtrack is a little rarer on Youtube but I suppose it's understandable.
Also I say the songs from the Darkstalkers series count. You may question how it is "obscure" in the first place. I find it to be due to talking to people and seeing how many of them say they've never heard of the series. Here's a link to one.
This is one of the greatest soundtracks I ever heard. When I read the name of the thread I was actually expecting this game to be in it.
:)I don't know why, but this game
I adore the music for it
Hate the game, love the music
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderBest puzzle game. Best puzzle game music.
So we know games like Chrono trigger, the Soul series, the Megaman series and Sonic series have had great music, but what about lesser known games whose soundtracks don't get the love they due to lack of exposure? This is the thread to post such games. Note that the game itself doesn't have to be good, just the soundtrack.
For me, the Batman game for the Genesis/Megadrive had an excellent soundtrack from the 16 bit era that sounds good even today, further showing that yes the genesis is capable of putting out some great stuff. And this was from a 1990 movie-based game, which is even more impressive. My favorites are the prologue, Gotham streets, and Axis chemical factory.
