Some article I found about an American leaving his country because of "coercive aggression".

What do you think? Just curious, that's all. And I hope this is the correct forum for posting something like this.

Yeah, the system has been so sucky for that guy. I mean, he only has the one boat! And he's got to hold down two jobs - a full-time thinker AND an adventurer!

If the system is bent against anyone, it's clearly this fella.

And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)

I skimmed it. Seems like the ramblings of a pseudointellectual. He seems pretty nihilistic, which begs the question of where exactly does he plan to go? Pretty much every country does what he's crying about America doing, some a lot more aggressively.

If this dude wants to leave so badly, why doesn't he just leave instead of flouncing around on his boat with his BS degree in an expanding field and his dual jobs of thinker and adventurer? I mean, clearly America has been a cruel mistress towards him.

Oh, please. He's all of 22. And he thinks he's going to find somewhere where

"The problem is choice. I alone control my actions. Your system depends on us adhering to a certain pattern of behavior, but we each have the power to reject it. You will only survive as long as individuals believe you exist and act accordingly, but you cannot compel the choice. You can never take away my ability to choose life without you, to ignore your behavioral suggestions, to act on my own."

doesn't apply? I hope he's wealthy enough to buy a small, uninhabited island, because the only place he's going to find that pie-in-the-sky is in complete isolation.

I really tried, but all I could get out of the article was "First World Problems".

small, uninhabited island

He has a boat. Personally I think he's just going to sail around the world, updating his situation and complaining about the inevitable restocking of foreign cuisines with the next country he tries to settle into but doesn't like.

Seems like the ramblings of a pseudointellectual.

That's exactly what it is. A 22 year old suddenly realized America isn't perfect by a LONG shot (something I did when I was 17). However, whereas I realized that no country is perfect and went to college in an attempt to educate myself in a practical field so as to prepare myself for the real world, this "full-time thinker" decided to run off to the Bahamas.

Now taking bets: How long until "Why I'm Leaving the Bahamas"?

Where exactly does he plan to go? I can't think of a single country on Earth where at least one of his complaints doesn't apply. I guess he could go live in the jungle or on the sea, but then why were all his complaints directed at America?

I'm guessing this guy is just some entitled college graduate who figures he can become rich in the Bahamas.

My god. Is that guy seriously whining about the fact that society expects him to conform to certain behaviours? And did he really notice that just recently? He sounds like a spoilt 15-year-old.

I can't stop wondering if he's a "full-time thinker and adventurer" just because he can't find a job.

It's not clear to me what he wants to do, precisely. I suspect that it's not clear to him either.

I mean, all right, he's going on a boat trip. What then?

I stopped as soon as he said aggressive coercion.

Oh no, my country gave me the opportunity to go to college! Everything's a lie! I've been brainwashed, but now I see the truth!

First up, if you seriously thought America was anything like the Pledge of Allegiance or the Constitution made it out to be, you deserve to be let down. If you've seriously gone through college before realizing how much your country sucks, you deserve to be treated like a spoiled 5 year old, because that's pretty much what your sheltered 22 year old ass is. And if you're seriously dumb enough to list your occupation as "full-time adventurer and thinker", you deserve to be torn apart by a black bear, you pretentious piece of crap.

Second, if you're going to leave your country, just do it. Don't post some pompous note on a website populated by rich assholes (presumably). No-one's going to give a damn.

I'm considering writing an article called "Why I'm Going To America ASAP" in response, but it wouldn't be very long.

Games companies, Technology, Guns and the fact that it's a America. It's stupid but cool.

I can't stop wondering if he's a "full-time thinker and adventurer" just because he can't find a job.

While normally I would fully sympathize with that, I feel that in this case my sympathies would be better targeted towards the unemployed person who can't choose to sail to a tropical island paradise in his own boat because he doesn't fancy paying taxes.

And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)

Also, the Caribbean may well be a tropical paradise, but I'm pretty certain that it is not a magical wonderland where people don't pay taxes and laws do not exist. I don't really know much of the politics of that region, so I may well be wrong; but for example, as far as I was told, many of these nations struggle with extremely high poverty levels (among other things).

I have family in the Caribbean, and it's far from a utopia. It's only a utopia on the resorts. I have family where pretty much their only source of clothing is stuff we send back from...guess where? America. Out of all the countries to go to, why the Bahamas? Why not like Sweden or somewhere that at least is at the level of the U.S.
