For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Ultimately, we gave this trashy trash a unanimous 🎆🎆.

It even had a Godfrey Ho Ending. "The bad guy's dead. Roll credits."

A long time ago, we watched a neat little thriller called The Stepfather ([awesome][awesome]), starring Terry O'Quinn (John Locke of TV's Lost) and Jill Schoelen (star of the coven favorite Popcorn and the not-so-favorite Cutting Class—Brad Pitt's first credited film appearance). It was a film about a maniac who murdered his own family, skipped town, then married a widowed mother with a teenage daughter in hopes of murdering another family all over again.

Now we get around to showcasing a sequel.

Terry O'Quinn returns (Jill Schoelen does not), and after escaping the mental asylum that he was locked up in, he returns to his old habits, marries another widowed mother (this time with a teenage son) and hopes to take another crack at it all over again.

Here's The Stepfather II

Once again, the people at Red Letter Media have uncovered a potential masterpice of cinematic garbage

From IM Db:
When a giant blood-thirsty anthropoid goes on a killing in a sprawling suburban park area, it's up to a couple of rangers, a reporter and a mystical Native-American Warrior to try and stop it.

He's out of the woods - and into your neighborhood!

Another slightly shorter than usual movie, and slightly longer than usual preshow.

First up, Gamesmaster, and a review of the original The Stepfather by way of the Cinema Snob.

And then, we see our main attraction, The Stepfather 2.

Annnd, we gave it 👨👨. It was okay, I thought. Nothing remarkable. Two stepfathers out of four. It also got a single 3 vote.

The time is right for us to get around to this one: A sci-fi "western" (on a planet that isn't Earth) produced by David DeCoteau's wise old master Charles Band and his Full Moon production company, and featuring the likes of Jackie Swanson, Meg Foster, George Takei, Carl Struycken, Isaac Hayes, Julie Newmar, and Andrew Divoff (Prom, that's him beneath the green alien makeup and the eyepatch, three years prior to playing the evil Djinn in Wishmaster).

That seems to just about say it all, really.

Get set to face Oblivion.

And I'm back to help get us into the swing of things.

First up, Jonathan Frakes presents another set of strange stories on Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Charles Band brings us the mother of all 90's B-movies ("on paper," anyway) in Oblivion.

We've watched this one a couple of times before. It's not the best action/sci-fi showcase we've ran here, and it's arguably more suitable for a Kung Fu Friday, but, dammit, I'm feeling a craving for something cyberpunk from that "golden" year of 1995, and I love me some John FUCKING Glover

So let's revisit and re-explore the three laws of robotics with French kickboxer Olivier Gruner in Automatic.

This is unrelated to the movie, but I'm posting it here because it's right up y'all's alley.

So, a few hours before I posted this, Youtube movie essayist Now You See It uploaded an essay on So Bad, It's Good movies. I say that, but he spends a good chunk of the essay discussing Camp, and discussing overblown cliches used in great movies in ways that aren't laughably terrible.

Anyone want to add their two cents?

Alright, we'll be getting into the swing of things with (Rip Torn's) Ghost Stories and another "gripping adventure" with Action Man.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, prepare for a revisitation of 1995 cyberpunk with Olivier Gruner and John Glover in Automatic.

Here's a hell of a short and sweet IMDb synopsis:

When a police officer is killed in the line of duty, his spirit enters into the body of a rookie cop to seek revenge for his murder.

What else is there to say? Submitted for your approval, here's The Force...

Wanted to have something a lot different for us tonight, but we hit a few snags, and as our last resort, we have the sequel to Sunday night's Oblivion, aptly titled Oblivion 2: Backlash.

The main ensemble from the first film remains for this one (except this time around, Andrew Divoff shows up as the brother of the character he played in the first film). In fact, so does the cheap "wild west town" set. It's almost as if both movies were filmed in haste back-to-back, hmmm... (EDIT: Yup, IMDb trivia confirms it)

Suppose that should mean more of the same to the rest of us. Joy.

Alright, first up, test your luck and better judgement with another batch of stories in Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, hosted by Jonathan Frakes.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we rejoin Richard Joseph Paul, Jackie Swanson, Andrew Divoff, Meg Foster, Isaac Hayes, Julie Newmar, Carl Struckyen, and George Takei in the sequel film Oblivion 2: Backlash.

Tonight, we gear up for a science-fiction TV film about a father and his sons who, in the year 2048, salvage treasures from sunken buildings among costal cities now underwater thanks to global warming.

Starring James Brolin (Father of Josh) and the leading actor from Pulse (that one pizza shit about ghosts and cell phones).

Anyway, here's Lost City Raiders.

We gonna raid some lost cities! It's Lost City Raiders. I'm a big adventure person, so I hope this turns out to be pretty fun.

And before that, some more Ghost Stories, and hideous CGI action with a man.

Let's raid some cities! Lost ones only. https://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

Well, it got sci-fi weird later on.

I wish it were better, since adventure like this is a genre I tend to like. But anyway, it got ★★ with a single 1 vote.

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOooooooooooo...

No trailer is out there for this week's Kung Fu Friday title. As a matter of fact, no sharp quality transfers exist either, but I already watched this one with another group of people last week, and I assure you it has to be seen.

All things considered, this movie is pretty unusual. It's not just another 1970's chop-socky martial arts movie set in feudal China; it also borrows a lot of tropes and elements of 1950's American monster movies! Just really odd.

Plus, one of the English-dubbed bad guys sounds vaguely like a lazy impression of Tommy Wiseau.

Again, no trailer, but the movie we will be watching is called Mantis Fists and Tiger Claws of Shaolin.

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOooooooooo...

Time to kick off another Kung Fu Friday with more mXc and hokey dubbing insanity.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, feudal China takes an odd turn for the 50's monster movie variety in Mantis Fists and Tiger Claws of Shaolin.

I was already set on picking this out and throwing it in all your faces before I even read the plot description:

As a family moves into their new country home, strange events occur, making them believe that their autistic daughter is communicating with the spirits of two murdered children.

This is a made-for-TV movie that originally aired on UPN.

And that's all I have to say.

Lost Souls, everybody! (No trailer, just the opening credits score)

Tonight, we're gonna be watching Lost Souls, about parents who think their daughter is communicating with dead kids using the power of autism.

Before that, more Gamesmaster and more PS1 cutscenes- I mean, Action Man.

Well, Hollywood Autism and Neurodiversity Is Supernatural: The Movie, more or less.

When I pointed out how rather, uh, limited the movie's portrayal of autism was, SpaceWolf said, "You can't expect 100% accuracy from a gimmick." Which is true. They just grabbed onto the most basic tropes they had, and oh yeah, she talks to ghosts.

It got ★. Even the dad unknowingly cheating on his wife with a ghost didn't raise its score. tongue
