I don't play multiplayer games, but dying in a single player game is usually accompanied by a sigh and a short break.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."In single player games: replay, analyze, get better.
In multiplayer games: Try to win. If unfeasible, make it annoying for the other team to win. Either through Pyrrhic Victory or sheer unpredictability.
I usually only play single player games, but whichever I do play, I have little reaction to either winning or losing.

At the end of the day, it's how close it was. If it was an MP game, a close loss is my favourite, second only to a close win. I'll treasure that result if I damn well had to fight for it.
Of course, if it's an SP game or Co-op MP (Mass Effect 3 for both) it'll more be a case of 'FUCK YOU GAME' unless I'm going in expecting myself to lose (Platinum difficulty!)
It's kind of thrilling when Inspector Tequila dives sideways in slow motion, shooting dual pistols while doves fly out of his arse.If it was a close match my response is something along the lines of "Excellent show, old chap! Care for a spot of tea!"
If it wasn't, I usually devolve into grumbling and swearing.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderSingleplayer: Get angy, scream at my troops in a way to make a tinpot dictator proud, walk away and come back later.
Multiplayer: Shrug it off. I generally play for ties, not wins, so it doesn't matter. I also tend to trashtalk and try to make deals a lot, too. -Snickers- Hey, bro, you and me should take him out first, THEN deal with each other. . . keep it in the family, you know?
I explode with sheer boiling rage, become one with the very embodiment of anger itself, and tell the winner(s) that he/they is/are doomed in the next round.
I never send death threats or insult them though. That's just childish :P
Single Player: I'll say something like "Well at least I'm failing at that part consistently," "That was better than my previous best," or if it's worse than usual, "C'mon, this isn't amateur hour. You know you're better than this," or "You know what? You're not feeling your best. Rest a bit and come back refreshed." Everything is a milestone that will be replaced by greater milestones and failure should be taken with a cavalier attitude.
While I don't play multiplayer much, I usually just tell myself that everyone else is better.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonI usually chuck my computer out the window and buy a new one.
Jonah FalconI like to play Pokemon on emulators sometimes, and while fun, it's difficult to ignore the simple fact that 99% of my opponents will insult and rage when they lose, and gloat when they win. And it's not just that one game. I used to be somewhat into online FP Sers and such, and the impression I get is the same. People who play competitive games on the internet are literal antisocial pricks.
So in the end, it's not the losing that really bothers me. It's losing to those types of people, which on the net, is nearly all of them.
They never travel alone.: That's pretty much the main reason I don't play online. Too many douchebags just looking to ruin your day.
The other reason being my Internet is slow and prone to hiccups.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaHey man, if you give up like that the assholes win, man. You gotta stick to it, and show others the light, man.
Or you could always just play with us tropers. :P
I haven't always handled it as well as I should. Sometimes, I get really frustrated and just have to take a break. To win, I just have to try different things.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyI say, just don't play with random strangers online. Between the obnoxious jerks, griefers, cheaters, Leeroy Jenkins types, and people who just pick Figure-8 Circuit all day, it's just not worth the trouble. 90% of the games you play will be boring and no fun whatsoever. It's like playing a slot machine, except you're throwing away your free time instead of your money.
If you're going to play with random strangers, do it in person, because most people know that being a jerk in person will likely get you kicked out of the venue and/or kicked in the crotch. (Although there sometimes is still the problem of people who just pick Irohazaka all day.)

Extra 1: Poochy Ain't StupidAgreed. I played Portal 2 coop online for a little bit, and kept getting people who wanted to goof off instead of play the game. I get the whole "having fun" thing, but I'd rather play with friends my own age, not literal ten year olds who decide an energy ball is a soccer ball and want to watch their partners die for a while instead of having fun finishing the stage.
I actually ragequit that day.
As long as the guy isn't being a jerk, I don't really care. If they ARE being a jerk, trash talking everyone while fighting or whatnot, I'll just leave and get a drink or something.
I played Portal 2 co-op with someone who solved the puzzles with me fine until that one at the end of Course 3 where you have to fling from a light bridge and smack together. Then they decided that they were going to stand next to me and push me off the bridge.
I'm fine with losing in multiplayer games since everyone is pretty much equal, but if I keep dying in a single-player game I'll just give up after a while if I'm making no progress with trial and error (I've pretty much given up on Dark Souls right near the end for that reason).

"Steel wins battles. Gold wins wars."Whenever I'm at a friend's and he beats me at a Fighting Game I usually go into Friendly Rage mode.
Word on playing with random strangers in person. It's a great way to bond with people you don't know all that well. And possibly instill them with a healthy respect for you... or the other way around. :P
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI got that with LLND. Nice guy! :D
"I had fun. Good game."
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.
I only play with my friends and family, and most of them are far worse at games than I am. I'm usually glad to lose, because it means someone else gets to bask in the glory for once. It's always sweet when my Mom wins, because she so rarely does that she gets really excited.
As for friends, I don't give a crap. The real reason we play together is because we enjoy cracking jokes about the game and enjoying the weird situations that arise.
