Come on guys, they didn't go extinct. They used their time machine to escape into the past when the aliens attacked Atlantis.

More like Sink or Swim, Exe.

And i'm fairly, fairly certain most Spiders swim pretty badly.

[up] Hey, those are mermaids. Shouldn't it be Float or swim? You know, cause floating to the surface would be a bad thing?

Specially if they surface in japan.

Even if it was possible, why would you want to live in the Ocean? :z

No taxes, access to the few areas left on Earth that haven't been explored by man, lack of competition. What else could you want?

Lack of competition.

Are you KIDDING me? Everything, including the very water, is trying to kill us down there.

Welp, if humans wanna try and live like mermaids, guess there isn't much I can do about it.

Except laugh at them.

...

Or not, when our Mermaid Overlords come back on dryland to demand tribute.

If there are no mermaids, it's only a matter of time before we create them. I mean, once we get the technology for efficient artificial gills and robotic fins (and that does not sound too far-fetched to me), a bunch of people are going to become primarily sea-dwelling.

Yes, and these would certainly help.

Per proposals, each respirocyte could store and transport 236 times more oxygen than a natural red blood cell, and could release it in a more controlled manner. If an adult human's red blood cells were entirely replaced with these devices, that person could hold his/her breath underwater for hours, making such devices extremely suitable for divers, who would then be able to dive for hours in a single breath, while avoiding both the bends decompression sickness or nitrogen narcosis (Afflictions caused by breathing compressed air under water, thus allowing more nitrogen, than at one atmosphere of pressure, to be dissolved into the bloodstream).[

I vowed, and so did you: Beyond this wall- we would make it through.

Hah, that's a joke. Where there people, there will be taxes.

If anything, taxes would be insanely high underwater since buildings and such would be very difficult to build underwater. And since everything is moving underwater, everything would need even more maintenance than it would on land.

Didn't those guys in Bioshock live under the ocean?

Look how well that turned out for them. Even if the entire city hadn't lost their minds, the city was falling apart at the seams.

It's cold, hot, there are typhoons, various type of sharks, octopuses that sometimes come in wicked poisonous format, squids, killer whales, eels, electric eels, sea snakes, stupidly venomous Reef Stonefish and all sorts of nasty jellyfishes.
The thing about the oceans is that they are somewhat big. There are some nasty parts in it, obviously; but the Gobi Desert is not exactly a perfect vacation resort either.

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.
