Yu Gi Oh!: East Academy

Peter chuckled softly as his Scrap-Iron Scarecrow was destroyed.

"Heheh. To think you'd be able to summon a monster with 3800 attack and destroy my face-down at the same time. And do that when you start with an empty field, no less. Nothing but that could've beaten me now, but you did it. Your field card is extremely powerful, and to think you drew all three copies of it as well as Terraforming…" He shook his head.

"No, that's making excuses. I could've avoided this if I'd played more cautiously. I have no one to blame for this but myself." He chuckled yet again. "Why don't you finish this?"

"It has been an honor, Peter," Regulus said, even as his smile seemed melancholy. "Vajrayana, attack Mine Golem. Thunder Break." (Vajrayana: 3800 ATK)

The dragon rider nodded before raising his spear to the skies, calling on the lightning... which converged onto its spear before both duelist and monster pointed at the enemy.

As the bolt sprang from his monster's spear and struck home, the excitement Regulus felt from the battle slowly faded away, replaced by an ineffable feeling of sadness whose origin he couldn't understand.

By the time the LP counter dropped to zero, Phalanx was at its master's side.

Aren't you supposed to be, you know, happy you're in the Finals?

Not really. Before Academy, I've always been content flying below the radar. Now, though...

It's an unfamiliar feeling, is it not? Don't worry, I'll be with you every step of the way. Now, let's be good sportsmen and be humble in victory.

Thanks, Phalanx. Let's go.

Both duelist and duel spirit strolled towards where their opponent was getting up after the duel result was announced, Regulus intent on shaking his opponent's hand.

Anyone judging solely from body language would've thought that the duel had had the opposite outcome. Peter was wearing a relieved smile on his face, and his movements were much lighter. As he strode up to shake Regulus' hand, Golem Sentry materialized by his side.

"Hmm. You lot should count yourselves lucky I never got a chance to join the battle!" This seemed to be directed towards Phalanx. "Things would've gone very differently if I'd been there!"

"Good match," said Peter, ignoring his duel spirit as always. "I'm glad I met you; it would've been boring if nobody here could beat me." He warmly shook the other boy's hand.

As the duel holograms faded away, Caramon felt his headache go away, fading with odd rapidity until it felt like he'd never had it in the first place. After a moment of confusion, he gave a mental shrug and moved on, clapping with the rest of the crowd over the end of the duel.

See, there's the thing, Phalanx replied, we don't fight alone. Ever wonder why Dragunities always fly in formation? Anyway, t'was a great contest. Let's do it again sometime when it's less hectic.

"Likewise," Regulus replied, returning the shake. It's never a good feeling when a great duel ends. "Wish me luck in the finals, eh?"

"Heh. Now, now- I'm not that good a loser." Peter retracted his hand and began to walk away, still smiling. "I'll be cheering for your opponent in the finals."

Use the cards, they will make us stronger

Denero sat in his room looking down at the 2 xyz’s in his hands, cold sweat running down his face.

“N….no, I can’t, they belonged to them, I won’t do it”

O stop it, do you think I care about what your parents did, or your morel stand point, you know how this is going to end so just save us the boring part and do what I tell you

Denero looked from one card to the other, in his left hand, number 7: lucky straight, the card his father had once used, and the right his mother’s favourite number 11: Big eye. Both had been given to him along with their decks when they were sent to prison, he should have got rid of them then, burned them, given them away, but for some reason he never could, no matter how much he hated them for what they were, he could never let go.

“NO! We are not using them”

Denero tried to put the cards back in the box were he kept them but couldn’t move his arms, slowly he felt himself beaning forced out of control.

O Denero, you know that’s not how we work

“stop it, let me go, p…please let me go……………………………………………………… you win, ok, just stop doing that”

Maybe, one day worm, maybe one day

"Fair enough," Regulus said with a smile, easily fishing out the teasing glint in Peter's eye before he turned to walk away, "but you will agree with me that that was a great duel we had."

See you later! Phalanx added, waving to both duelist and duel spirit as they left.

Yikhezkel won his duel with Gretel, though barely, with the Life Point tallies at its end being 1050 and 0.

“Welcome, everyone, to the finals of the East Academy Duelling Tournament!” the announcer screamed on top of his lungs. “After an intense and interesting tournament, we have our finalists! In one corner, the Evilswarm user who looks suspiciously like a certain animé character, Yikhezkel Malachi! In the other, the Pro-League aspirant, Dragunity user Regulus Gale!”
Yikhezkel stood at his corner of the arena, his deck already in its slot in his duel disk. He waved at Regulus.
“Hello there,” he said.

Regulus was now back to his usual attire, but his Duel Disk still had the green accessories.

"Good morning. Let's make this duel memorable," he began with a smile as his Duel Disk activated.

"Duel!" both yelled, and the game was afoot.

Phalanx, let's do our best.

Aklys tells me to tell you, he doesn't like the look of that thing, Phalanx said, pointing to the huge eldritch creature that was apparently a mutated Synchro Monster.

Got it, Regulus answered. This is the final, after all.

"I'll draw!" Regulus started. "I'll get things underway by activating my Field Spell, Dragon Ravine!"

The two duelists were separated by a chasm that had glowed green from its depths, the Field Spell activating the holographic projectors of the arena.

"Next, I'll use its effect to discard a card from my hand to choose a Dragunity monster to add to my hand - and my choice is Dragunity Phalanx!"

After carefully sliding a card into the discard pile, Regulus thought, rest easy, Laevateinn. You'll get your chance to fly soon, just as he pulled Dragunity Phalanx from his Deck.

Nice. We in business this early.

No jumping the gun.

There's a thin line between rushing decisively and attacking head-on with no thought of consequence. You'll have to tread that line very well. If you stall too much we'll be in trouble.

Okay. Too bad I didn't get to buy the other Synchros I needed in time... sorry guys, it looks like you'll have company after this match, win or lose.

Barcha and the others say it's no big deal. The more, the merrier, after all.

"I'll activate Cards of Consonance! I'll discard a level 2 Dragon-type Tuner to draw two! Phalanx, you know what to do!"

Roger that, sir! And just like that, Phalanx erupted into particles of light and moved to the Graveyard.

His whole being locked in concentration, Regulus drew two cards...

...and smiled.

"I'll set two cards, a monster and a face-down. You're up. By the way... have a nickname or something?"

Yikhezkel drew. He shrugged. "Me? A nickname?" he asked. "Well, some of my classmates call me Khezi, but I find it kinda embarrassing. Most people call me 'that animé guy', perhaps because I resemble Edward Elric. Anyway..."
He paused for the dramatic effect. "Since you control more monsters than I do, I can Special Summon Evilswarm Mandrago from my hand. So here we go, attack mode!"
A little mandrake-like plant with spikes on its arms appeared near Yikhezkel.
Evilswarm Mandragora: 1550/1450, ATK
"Next, I Summon Evilswarm Heliotrope! Arise!"
A man wearing black, stony armour with spikes jutting from its shoulders and wielding a fearsome sword appeared beside the plant.
Evilswarm Heliotrope: 1950/1450, ATK
"Now, Mandragora! Attack his face-down monster!"
The plant nodded and rushed at the face-down card, swinging its arms around itself.

Caramon dashed into the stands, glad that he hadn't missed more than the opening moves. He'd spent the last night researching a new type of monster that he wanted to try out in his deck, and had ended up falling asleep on his desk. He really didn't use Synchros enough to justify keeping them around, and had decided to replace them with something, although he didn't know what the something was, really. There were these monsters called Union Monsters that he'd uncovered, ones that equipped themselves to others, but he needed to learn about them.

Grabbing a seat, he began shuffling through two piles of cards, one of which was his deck, and another which was a pile of Union monsters and support that he had gathered. Keeping one eye on the match, he looking through the second, pulling out different parts and arranging them in different combinations, murmuring to himself as he did so.

He's going to jump the gun further than I will! Regulus thought as Dragunity Militum held fast for a moment before being taken out by Mandragora's vines.

"Next goes Helitrope with a direct attack! Sword of the Swarm!" said Yikhezkel, and the warrior charged, slashing at Regulus with his sword.

Daniel walked over to the stands nonchalantly. He didn't really care about missing the duel since he didn't know who any of the duelists were. The only reason he was going was because it was all anyone's going on about, he'd be an outcast not to at least check it out. He walked up the steps, where he spotted a familiar face.

He walked over to where Caramon was sitting. "Mind if I sit here?" He asked with a smile.

"Here we have a relatively simple opening to this duel! Regulus has a Field Spell and some defenses in play. Unfortunately for him, it seems Ed-AHEM! Yikhezkel, I mean, is going to smash right through those defenses with his Evilswarms! Does Regulus have a response?"

Thought I'd add a little music to spice things up.

Peter sat in the stands, somewhat annoyed by this turn of events. It's not like I want him to win, but to have his defences be broken through so easily…

"Ugh!" Regulus said, wincing as the sword crashed into him.

(Life Points: 8000 -> 6050)

Caramon nodded to the other duelist.

"Sure. I'm not planning on kicking you out or anything, so don't worry about that!"

He gestured to the cards spread in front of him.

"Don't mind me though, I'm just trying to get my deck rearranged before the tournament ends, and regular duelings starts up again. I'd like to get it finished before I get challenged by somebody, hence me doing it here instead of in my room."

"Oh yeah, deck tweaking might be a good idea now that I think about it." Daniel said as he took a seat. He looked out onto the field and saw Dragon Ravine in play. Dragunities...

"So, know any of these guys dueling?"

"Hey, Caramon!" Jacques had spotted his friend and ally and made his way over to his spot in the stands. "I'm working on modifications on my deck and was wondering if you could he—" He paused when he saw Daniel there. "Ah, pardon my manners. Name's Jacques." The teen extended his hand with a wide grin on his face.

Caramon shook his head.

"Not really. Neither of them are in Sea, and I haven't really interacted with them in classes much, so this tournament is really the first time I'm seeing them like this. I take it that you are in the same situation?"

"Well, yeah. I just got here after all." Daniel raises his arms in a position that suggests it doesn't really matter. "Oh well."

Then, seeing another kid come up to them, Daniel rose out of his seat and shook his hand, returning his introduction with a smile. "Pleasure to meet you Jacques. My name's Daniel. I, uh, I saw your duel."

Caramon grinned at Jacques arrival.

"Oh, there you are! I was curious if you were going to be reclusive like you were yesterday, or if you were going to come and see the final match."

Jacques couldn't suppress his nervous chuckle at the mention of the duel and his day in solitude, scratching the back of his head. "Hehe... Not exactly my brightest moments... In any case, I'm a changed man! I ain't going to go back to throwing temper tantrums when I lose, that's a promise!"

Jacques paused a moment, looking at the two piles of cards Caramon was sorting through. "Ah, looks like I'm not the only one finetuning their deck, eh? Whatcha got there?"

Art watched the duel, looking somewhat reserved and quiet. He was tactically observing the duel. It looked like Khezi was committing a lot to the field already, and the Dragunity guy was already forced into a retreat that might prove deadly in the long term if he couldn't gain momentum.

If Ophion entered the field, that got rid of his Synchros, which could mean very, very bad things.

A tactical mind, boy. But remember, the Dragunities have other strengths than Synchros, getting rid of Ophion, for them, might well be a simple affair. However, should luck not side with him, then perhaps this duel might have a quick conclusion.

His guest seemed a tactically astute one, so he figured, eh, two heads were better than one.
