World of Heroes: Reboot

• Name: Thomasina Rankin (Cobalt Girl)

• Physical Appearance: 5'6", average build, on the thin side, erect bearing, glows sometimes, caries a notebook, wears a labcoat with everything.
• Personality: Quiet, mainly because she's mute, and more then a bit sulky. Probably an alcoholic.
• Powers: The ability to emit bursts of radiation (alpha, beta, gamma), an excellent High-Intensity Gamma Source for experiments (Tantalum-182)
• Other Skills: Knows how to work a teletype machine, is radioactive
• Background/Origin: Part of the US Government's Operation Plowshare, various attempts to create peaceful uses for nuclear weapons, and the result of a budget surplus plus a lot of schnapps somewhere in the chain of command. Thomasina was a half-decent teletype clerk at Kinchloe AFB in Michigan before being selected (not at random) for a special assignment because of her partially complete degree in chemistry. After being exposed to healthy amounts of radiation and [REDACTED], she went on to a career in public education, safety, and eventually lab equipment at Argonne National Laboratory. Officially classed as hazardous lab supplies, she has not yet been required to register as a superhero despite her past wearing a weird costume and fighting communists (Notably the Chernekov Glow).

(And make sure to replace whatever you have in the 'Side' section of your character sheet with whatever you decide.'

Technically no, she's not registered, since the NRC doesn't consider her a superhero any more.

Okay... so, in that case, replace whatever you have up there in place of 'Side', with 'Side: Non-Registered'. But now, I need to know something important. By the sounds of it, it seems like she still works for the government, but just not as a Superhero. Is that correct?

Name:Dax Dresden beat cop of the future

Side:registered

Physical Appearance: Tall(6ft4) , Wiry, African-American with glowing Green Eyes and short hair.

Personality:Honest and Intelligent but certainly not wise Dax tries his best to uphold the law in a Past he doesn't understand. He can be foolish or loud at times but he'll have his friends' back most of the time.

Powers: Extremely effective Healing Factor and minor agility.

Other Skills:Is a tough and clever Detective from an alternate timeline, has extensive combat training.

Background/Origin:Dax used to be a regular detective from a distant alternate future filled with Alien and Meta-Human crime, Dax one morning just found himself waking up in a empty apartment in the distant past now he fights crime for the government and investigates meta-crime just like he did back home.

Miscellaneous Notes:Dax's career was spiraling downward so he gladly took the chance to start over in a strange land.

Accepted. Just one thing; when posting in the actual RP thread, please touch up your grammar a bit. Capitals, commas, periods, etc, should all be where they're supposed to be. I'm saying this based on both your sign-up post, as well as many of your posts in the original RP. Don't take it the wrong way; it's just something I couldn't help but notice, and something that you really should work on.

Huh. I had an idea for a sort of Jason Bourne-meets-Wolverine vigilante character, but his powers were essentially identical to Dresen's there . May have to go back to the drawing board.

Not sure if I'll join anyway, but count this as a tentative expression of interest.

Yep, she's a research physicist. More or less.

...Tell me this then. Even though she's un-registered... when doing hero-work, does she still have the government's best interest in mind, or is she more independent? Also, is she more inclined to work with Non-registered heroes, or Registered heroes?

Since the government doesn't want her doing anything that could be classified as superheroing so she can keep up her job for the Department of Energy, I'd say independent. As for personal inclination, probably registered. Less uncertainty.

If she'd more likely work with the Registered Heroes, then I'd say you should put down 'Registered'. If you put down 'Non-Registered', then you'd be expected to side with Non-Registered Heroes.

Boy, you didn't pick a character with a simple allegiance, did you?

OK, thought of a new character:

• Name: Evelyn “Eva” Wilding, AKA Freefall
• Side: Unregistered
• Physical Appearance: An 18-year-old girl of mixed American/Asian descent, shorter than average with short straight black hair and brown eyes. Her costume consists of a purple hoodie with a black spiral design on the back, black fingerless gloves, a black T-shirt and grey cargo pants, with tape wrapped around her shins and forearms. She pulls a black scarf up over her mouth and nose to hide her identity.
• Personality: Proud, somewhat cocky and very free-spirited, Eva has little respect for authority and tends to be rather blunt about expressing her opinions. However, she's quite loyal to those who she feels have earned her respect, and despises betrayal. While her background in theft meant she never really thought about the issue much, she has a newly discovered distaste for bullies, or those who generally prey on the weak.
• Powers: Freefall can manipulate gravity fields within a 2-meter radius of her body.
  • She can increase or decrease the strength of the field, essentially altering the weight of anything in that radius, including her own body.
  • She can also alter the direction of her local gravity field
  • Favorite applications of her power include low-gravity leaps, attacks utilising a directed “fall”, and accelerating thrown pebbles to bone-breaking velocities. Technically she can fly by completely nullifying her personal gravity, or by “falling” wherever she goes, but this can get very tiring.
• Other Skills: She is a free-runner of some skill. She can also pick locks and knows a little hand-to-hand fighting.
• Background/Origin:
  • Before discovering her powers, Eva was something of a tear-away, running with a street-gang and dipping into petty crime. She thought this was a pretty good deal, but her gang’s leaders decided they wanted in on more lucrative businesses. To cut a long-story short, a few weeks later most of her gang were dead, and Eva was thrown out of a 50th story window by a drug lord intent on cleaning up any witnesses to a big deal. The ensuing tidal wave of adrenalin and terror proved to be enough of a catalyst to activate her latent powers, giving her approximately 30 seconds to learn how to use them.
  • Now, Freefall claims that she only cares about getting her revenge on the mob-boss who killed a lot of her friends, and that her brush with death was hardly a moral epiphany. However, she hasn’t actually stolen anything since the fall, and has even been noted to (stealthily) help the police with drug busts and burglars every now and then. Truth be told, the event shook her worldview up rather badly - good luck getting her to admit it, though.

@ Hotelkilo: If she has super-powers and the government know her identity, she'd be Registered, right? Shouldn't matter if she's actually doing hero-work.

Accepted. Now, as to where to add you in, you might want to wait until the Prison Operation, which is coming up. As for your character finding out about it, you could just have her pass by the station when the break-out occurs, and then have her investigate. Though of course, it's all up to you.

I'm just going to ask this as a general question of the sign-up thread here; has anyone who's signed-up,

Do you guys mind if I join?

Name: Shimazu Kenichi, though this is simply the name he chose for himself. His real name is Yamata no Orochi (yes, really).

Side: Non-Registered

Physical Appearance: Kenichi is average in both height and weight. He is 26 and Caucasian. He has black hair and dark purple eyes. His head is about half-way between being normal and pointed. Generally just wears a dark green t-shirt and black sweat pants, though this changes if he's using his powers. When in Hero Mode, he creates and wears a set of extremely resilient black Samurai armor, complete with Kabuto helmet and face mask.

Personality: Kenichi is a firm believer of Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!, as he believes that any law that doesn't support what's right isn't worth listening to. He will never judge someone based on what they were born with, and will outright try to befriend and reform villains who were Driven to Villainy. However, he is also a supporter of Good Is Not Soft, and will gladly slip into minor brutality as long as he knows that the opponent will live and can recover. Has an extreme and inexplicable hatred of religious figures, such as Buddhist monks or Catholic priests. This was later discovered to be his powers influencing his personality, and to date is the only way that they do.

Powers:

• Is able to to use malevolent magic to emit a variety of attacks, such as force-blasts, or small beams.

• He can use his power to create a weapon, as well as clothes. However, his powers seem to have a strange obsession with Japan. As such, the only clothes he can make are traditional Japanese clothing (read: Fuedal Japan stuff. Samurai, Ninja, Shogun, all that jazz), and the only weapon he can create is a rather ornate katana. This katana is far superior in both power and durability to a normal steel katana.

• He can also create "shadow" snakes, which he uses in a variety of ways (swallowing projectiles, simple "meat" shields, pushing buttons that are out of reach, etc.).

• Regardless of how he uses it, all instances of his power are black, with a roiling dark purple "aura". As long as he isn't using his power, he can hide it just fine, but if he uses even a small portion of it, its entirety is revealed. For people who can sense such things, this is akin to a bonfire suddenly materializing in the middle of a field of unlit matches (though this only applies in terms of how much it makes him stand out, rather than an accurate gauge of his power.)

• He cannot corrupt anyone with his power. However, this doesn't change the fact that he is basically using Malevolence as a weapon. The wounds he causes with it tend to take longer to heal (baring outside aid or healing factor), as well as being more painful than they should be.

• Because his power is literally Pure Evil, it has a sort of semi-sentience. As it cannot corrupt anyone (besides Kenichi, if it learns to manipulate anything beyond his opinion on religions), its only desire is to destroy. If Kenichi ever loses control, his power goes berserk. If he is being attacked at the time, it immediately tries to destroy the threat. If he isn't, it instead tries to destroy literally everything around him. However, if he loses consciousness or dies, his ability would quickly follow. If he ever became a villain, then his power would have much more influence over him, effectively turning him into an Omnicidal Maniac Humanoid Abomination.

• His power prohibits him from entering areas that are guarded against evil magic unless he overpowers whatever defenses may be present.

Other Skills: After he discovered he could create a katana, he went to some of the sword-masters amongst the heroes and learned how to use it. While by no means an master, he has become above average at it.

Backround/Origin: Kenichi had the slight misfortune of being born to a couple who were both criminally insane and very religious. The religion in question was one that worshiped Yamata no Orochi, a giant eight-headed demon serpent from Shinto mythology, as a God of Evil. This couple named their child after their god, and performed a ritual that they believed would allow Orochi to possess their unborn son. When Kenichi was showing every sign of growing up to be a normal human child, they reacted violently. Kenichi was saved by a hero who happened to be passing the area and heard his cries of pain.

Unfortunately, it appears that his parents were at least partially correct, because this incident also awakened Kenichi's ability. As one could imagine, it was rather alarming that anyone had this sort of ability, let alone an abused child. He was taken in by some of the arcane heroes, who taught him to control his powers and use them for good. In the beginning of his hero career, he fought evil primarily out of bitterness towards his parents, but soon discovered that Good Feels Good. He now does heroics purely to help people.

When the Superhuman Prohibition Act was passed, Kenichi was (and still is) completely opposed to it, believing that it would drag innocent people into the Good Fight when the villains inevitably attacked the heroes family and friends.

Misc. Notes: I left the actual strength of his abilities (besides the katana) ambiguous because I don't really know the upper strength limit, so if he's accepted, I'll just have him be as strong as the GM allows him to be. His Superhero name is either Orochi or the Shadow Samurai, depending on who you ask (he called himself the former until a local newspaper called him the latter and he took a liking to it).

Accepted... after I give you a few observations I made.

1.Manipulation of Evil: So... what exactly does this do? You say it harms people, but how does it do so? (And when you tell me how, make sure to put that in your character's profile as well.)

2.This is more of a minor nitpick, but your 'hatred towards Shinto priests' probably isn't necessary. Yes, seeing as your character is influenced by Orochi, this does make sense, but there's just one problem; you aren't liable to actually meet any Shinto priests within the RP itself, so you can't really do anything with it. ...Perhaps your character could have an aversion to Priests in general?

Anyway, just check on these, (the first one is the only one that needs real changing,) and you'll probably be accepted just fine.
