So, champagne to celebrate the new moderator promotions, or whisky to endure having to review furry physical relationships? tongue

...well, the links on the article go to a list of stories, and the summaries are all SFW...

(scans first story) ...uh, yeah, definitely the whisky. You get maybe a page or two's worth of "plot", and then the sex starts. Didn't look farther.

Okay, I know it's not on topic, but I just have to ask...

What new moderator promotions? There's been none that I know of.

According to an Ask The Tropers post by Ironeye, the site is currently in the process of adding new staff members (hence the long string of congratulations there for Septimus).

I read all of the fics by SimplySix on the FanficRecs.Team Fortress 2 page, and I'm pretty sure they count as porn. Or at least they have enough explicit stuff that they should be looked at by someone else. I've commented out all the fics I've brought up here, so they're still on the edit page if we want to bring them back.

Made some progress on the backlog:

  • Hive Fled seemed good in the sandbox version, so I've launched it. Needs indexing, though.
  • HookerVerse I saw some agreement on unlocking, and I'll go ahead and implement it - I don't expect issues from it.
  • The Manga Guide To Psychosomatic Illnesses: Is implemented ... insofar as people can still create a page there.

Which will probably get pretty bad real soon since it was announced that it will be getting a 5 minute anime some time soon. Considering the lighthearted comical tone and people's Berserk Buttons ooh boy.

It takes various stances on well everything from Aspergers to pedophilia and not everywhere I the world would agree with those stances, the pedo versus ebiophile (sp) issue will be a wildfire.

On the other side of the fence since it is a gag manga and people with a problem might not find some of the stuff funny even though it is very educational about said psychological problem and how others can help/handle the problem.

I'd vote to lock it immediately upon creation but if it passes P5 muster then I'd say that's enough of a precaution.

And a major problem there is that while they are both the same for our site's purposes (e.g. we don't want creepy underage shit here at all) and for US legal purposes, but per the DSM (the actual diagnosing manual for psychologists/psychiatrists), there is actually a distinction between "pedophile" and "ephebophile."

As in, if you're talking DSM definitions, "pedophile" is the creeper who's attracted to/aroused by prepubescent minors out of their being such, while "ephebophile" is the far more common creeper that's attracted to post-puberty minors/people who look like them, e.g. the creepers that make "barely legal" a popular fetish.

No sympathy for either (I think it's nasty no matter what), and I support the site rules, but yeah, any discussion of the psychology of that issue in pretty much any work that actually has Shown Their Work will touch on that (no awful pun intended). Much like the legal and the informal definition of a psychopath and the psychological definition of one - the legal definition is black and white and most of us would be "a psychopath is dangerous/unsafe" out of necessity, whereas the psychological definition of one is a spectrum definition encompassed under Antisocial Personality Disorder.

And a very important note there is that the differentiation of pedophile vs ephebophile and Serial Killer vs antisocial asshole isn't saying that ephebophilia (or ASPD for that matter) is a "good" or "okay" thing - in fact, the differentiation makes it clear that behavior that isn't legally punishable (e.g. ephebophiles looking at "barely legal" porn instead of assaulting infants or ASPD sufferers gaming and manipulating people rather than being a Serial Killer) can still be highly problematic, dangerous, socially repugnant, and/or requiring therapy to change, and that these behaviors exist under the same umbrella as opposed to the "lesser" form being socially acceptable.

/rant mode

So? I think there COULD be a place for the Manga Guide To Psychosomatic Illnesses here - it depends on how graphic the depictions are, in my opinion. If it's simply a discussion differentiating the two, it's no different than the DSM itself (which doesn't endorse either, obviously, by differentiating them) and the page could probably exist with cleaning (and if needed, locking). If it has graphic and glorified depictions of child abuse, it needs to be cut/banned.

What is funny is the chapter actually bases itself on a western psychological book (DSM IV diagnostic manual) and pretty much goes into a Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei style wacky hijinks while explaining everything and then of taking an extreme position on both sides and running with it. In this case it is 'high school girls are ok!' And 'lock em all up in re-education camps', but it always solidly keeps to a 'pedo is bad' message.

The chapter is available online just not translated [1] nothing graphic at all.

While a lot of the writing in the Chakona Space shared universe is NSFW, and there is more than a bit of Chakat porn out there, like I said the last time it came up here it's not primarily written for the sake of porn stories, from what I remember reading of the stories on the creator's website years ago.

(The race as a whole is rather Mary Sueish, which is why I haven't followed it for a while now, but that's not in the purview of the P5 team. tongue )

Given that it has been years now, though, I suppose since I'm kinda defending them (weakly, granted) I should probably read through some of them in my copious free time.
