Has anyone read Paladin of Shadows? I've only read the review which originated the "OH JOHN RINGO NO!" meme, so I haven't flagged it. The review quotes several sections of the book, including this one:

The girl was clearly frightened, even terrified. And, yes, very pretty. About five foot one, long blonde hair and blue eyes. And no more than twelve. She was just starting to get the gangling growth spurt that kids hit at that age and might, indeed, grow some more tit. He wasn't sure she was even menstruating yet.

...

Mike let the girl sit on his lap and ran his hands over her stomach as she quivered in fear. He was careful to try to skip the bruised areas but she was still quaking, which didn't help much. He had a very real problem with being the sort of son of a bitch he was playing and the entire scene was turning him on more than he liked. He knew the girl could feel a very solid erection under her pert little ass and he knew that made him not only a Class A son of a bitch but a pervert. Unfortunately, short of castration he wasn't sure what to do about his little problem. Other than killing bastards who actually let their demons out. Such as the two other males in the room.

OH JOHN RINGO NO!

Lest anyone else accuse us of not doing the research, I read through that Black Pearl story. There is a plot, but there's excessive sexual content - I know there aren't any hard and fast rules for "how much" constitutes porn, but when at least half the work explicitly depicts sexual acts and fetishes of one kind or other, it's pretty much crossed the line.

In case it wasn't clear, I'm recommending a cut.

While it is true that Slice of Life doesn't have much plot, most spend all their time showing parts of people's lives other than what they do in bed with each other. So yeah, if the only slice of someone's life that is shown is explicit scenes of their sex life, it is probably porn. If sex scenes are by far the minority of the work, it should be treated like any other work that has some sex but isn't considered porn.

Yuan, I've read the whole series. It's also available for free from Joe Buckley's Fifth Imperium site, specifically here.

Anyway, it's been brought up before, so I'll just link to my reply to the last mention of the series.

My understanding of Paladin of Shadows is that it is not so much "pedopandering" as it is a shockfest about a rather horrible protaganist, who among other things is a sexual predator. The section quoted sounds like it was designed to disgust rather than titilate.

If YOU think you were thinking 'OH JOHN RINGO NO!', be quite aware that that is what I was thinking most of the time. Especially in Ghost...

Mike is, yes, a totally over the top character. But. One of the very odd responses (besides that it got voted Best Romance of the Year in 2005, OMFG, I giggled for WEEKS) has been from people saying 'Thank you for writing this. I thought I was the only one.'

The truth is that many people who choose to be in positions of conflict are, at some level, what most people would call 'truly evil.' They are infested by demons if you will. (Strong id if you prefer.) But they CHOOSE to manifest that side of themselves only when necessary. They keep it in a box and bring it out when they face others who don't so choose, who revel in their own evil. It is their Killer, their Machine, their Stranger. (Billy Joel song.) Cops, military, what have you. They are 'the rough men' who keep us safe in our beds at night and many of the very best... are more like Mike than they care for.

For those people, Mike is both a hero and a cautionary tale. Given the situation, what would you choose?

Doomed Kamidori. Pink-hair gets sex scenes. Not cool. Disposition is to cut, obviously.

I'm still not seeing what's so obvious about that pink-haired girl. Maybe if I saw a picture of her standing next to someone else, I might think the same, but without any context like the pictures that have been linked to?

[up] SO I checked their wiki. Emilita is listed as a "Loli Wizard." No age is mentioned, but for a sex scene loaded game, that is no surprise.

If that helps at all. (I always check to see if the Wiki Rule is in place before I GIS.)

Pinkhair, aka Emelita, is actually probably a little older than the protagonist. She looks and acts way too young though. The other definitely underaged girl doesn't even have the 'she's totally really older' excuse going for. I am not going to say why that's really obvious because it's kinda gross.

Does it matter? Sex scenes featuring characters deemed to look sufficiently like children for purpose of titillation are verboten under policy. Actual and intended ages are irrelevant.

Does it really matter? The fact of the matter is: the work contains sex scenes involving a couple prepubescent-looking girls, and for that, said work will not have a page here. Simple.

...I'm still curious as to the ages of these characters, mainly to have a total verification of Arha's claims put up front and center.

Pinkie's age is undefined. I'd put her at roughly twenty give or take a year while the other girl, Crayanne, is also undefined. Considering storyline events, I'd say her physical appearance matches her actual age and say she's about twelve.

I'd still like to know why you think that girl *does* look prepubescent though. Because she's not really triggering any of my cues for older *or* younger in the pictures I've seen linked to here.

OK, can you start with Paint the Town while I look at the redlinked ones? Also could we get a mod to post what was on those pages before they were torched?

As it turns out, I have a low attention span for things I'm not interested in. I already knew actually.
I did however read enough of two of them to make a judgment.

Paint The Town is just explicit gay porn and nothing else. Though considering how horribly it's written, and that I think that's intentional, I doubt anyone could be aroused by it.

Of Warlords And Pleasures is pure porn. Poorly written, often disgusting porn. Nothing of value here.
