Mass Fanfiction Rec Removal

There were like three or four porn fics on the MLP fanfic recs page alone. Maybe more.

It's not like anything's gonna be Lost Forever. It's just some links.

Here's what's going to happen: the review committee will review all the works that were cut, including the fan fics, and the ones that meet the new policy requirements will be restored. "Stay calm and be patient" is about all that can be said right now. We'll move as quickly as we can.

Yep, as far as I know that's the plan. I'll speak up for the Evangelion fics that I've read, but that's the only franchise I've got experience with.

I can honestly say that we can't call the admins lazy.

I don't know if it'll actually come to that, but I'm not ruling it out yet.

I find it highly irritating for the fanfic recs to have been removed for an indeterminate amount of time. This site was my main means of finding good fics to read, and without it I'm lost :P

No, but seriously, I don't see how we can expect it to come back up in any reasonable period of time with the massive log of fics to go through. Is there any other universal repository of fics that you guys can recommend?

Not unless you want to do some serious archive digging. Most other fanfiction rec forums either devolve into arguments after a while or never get off the ground in the first place.

Yeah, that's why I liked this one a lot. :(

I'll ask again: since when was it 1984 in here?

(I will admit that there are a lot of fics that deserve being excised from the fanfic recs list, but it doesn't justify a draconian removal such as this.)

Since Google threatened to cut their advertising if we continued posting (allegedly) NSFW content here.

Someone said it had nothing to do with Google, and this was Eddie's own decision.

Google's beef was only about the Naughty Tentacles page. Mainly because that's the only thing the complain was filed about, IIRC.

The thing that baffles me is during all this time, Fast Eddie apparently never noticed the site had mature material, the way he now acts as if he's amazed it exists.

Kidding, please don't IP ban me ;_;. So he's willing to delete all of Fanfic Recs because of a few NSFW examples? There was already at least 1 other person going along and checking for porn-fics before he decided to cut it.

He's forming some sort of council to comb through them and take out the porny stuff.

They could do that. Most fics tell you if they're gonna be SFW or not. You could even have a list of words to look for so you wouldn't have to read the whole thing. Ctrl F some key words, and now you know.

So, what exactly counts as pornographic content?

Well, stuff like lemon and lime, things that scream Porn Without Plot, stuff like that.

I think they also want to cut Plot With Porn. Basically, as long as it's explicit it's out regardless of the content's quality or lack thereof (hence why Lolita was axed).

IIRC Plot With Porn fanfics aren't necessarily going to be removed wholesale.

Its tricky. Maybe their could be a section of the site devoted specifically to that sort of stuff? Like, separate from the rest and having nothing to do with Google? I don't know a lot about how this works, so I could be completely wrong.

In other words you need to define Porn with Plot successfully so everybody agrees before we can really find out.
