I actually liked this one! It was about half-decent fanfic level. The characters weren't really that annoying, and the romance wasn't cloying at all.
...okay, damning with faint praise. But it had some fairly imaginative Body Horror.
ophelia, you're breaking my heartCan I say I love the Sharing a Body trope? Though on a re-read I grew to dislike Melaine because instead of being "Ohhhh Jared and my poor Jamie" it was all "Ohhhhh Jared."
And Jamie hits my Token Mini-Moe button. -shrugs- And Wanda's cool.
And...like that they are hyping the fact that "we lost the war with aliens" than the romance. Though I have a feeling that will come soon.

Looking for some stories?Aliens? Getting exposed to a larger audience? Money, Dear Boy? Awesome, Dear Boy? We shall see...

Hmmm... don't know what to think. I thought The Host actually had a lot of potential. If the filmakers took what they have and tried to make something better out of it, this could be a good movie.
But they'll probably be pandering to the Twilight base (which makes sense from an economic view), and it'll probably suck.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I... will cautiously keep an eye on this one. Cautiously.
Sci-fi is my one weakness...
i. hear. a. sound.I think The Host was where Meyer actually figured out how to make an Extreme Doormat into a likeable viewpoint character. I'd be much happier with a protagonist who was less spineless, but at least she came through in the crunch.
That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulI have a friend who loathes Twilight, but she loves the Host. Part of it is apparently because the idea behind the Host isn't as bland and overdone as Twilight.
Not Three Laws compliant. The really weird thing is she somehow manages to come across as a doormat while simultaneously seizing control of an innocent girl's body for practically the whole book.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Just found out that the director made Gattaca. So no wonder he'd be up for the Puppeteer Parasite alien movie.
Isn't The Host that Asian monster movie?
There is a Korean movie by that name but it has nothing to do with what this thread is about.
Yeah, I basically dropped into this thread to answer that question. I haven't read the book and don't really care how all this turns out either way, but if they've got Niccol directing...well, I haven't see Gattaca either (almost did last year, but didn't, it's a long story) but I have seen The Truman Show (oh wait he just wrote that, oops) and Lord of War and those were both good. He seems like a good choice for any number of things, really.

Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series.Dear god, the Uncanny Valley is staring into my soul.
On a more serious note, I guess I'll give the movie a shot. It's not as bad as Twilight, and Wanderer/Wanda is a far better protaganist then Bella Swa- sorry, "Bella Sue".
"I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal with it!"Hey. Stop insulting Mary Sues.
ophelia, you're breaking my heartBut she is. She's literally the second worst Mary Sue in literature/fanfics. I say second worst because there's always Ebony. *Shudders*
And isn't insulting Mary Sues a good thing?

"I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal with it!"They were invoking Insult to Rocks.
There's really no such thing as Insults To Rocks when it comes to Mary Sues. One can not insult the rock if the rock is un-insultable.

"I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal with it!"We haz trailer! And...it makes it look pretty cool.
Hey, where's the giant tadpole?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI might actually see this. The Host had problems but unlike Twilight it seemed like the kind of thing that could be really cool if handed to the proper team.
Did Meyer ever write another book in this universe? I heard she wanted to but I don't think she's written anything since.

One big F***ing problem here. How the HELL are we going to make a trope page for this if theres already this tadpole-monster movie eating up the slot?
We could call it The Host by Stephanie Meyer or something.
It's already under Literature and Twilght has specific tropes to the movies listed on their main page so...just have a different section for the movies.
Just saw the trailer, and as a person that liked the book, I am... sort of interested in seeing this? I think what I liked most about the book is the interactions between Melanie and Wanda, not really the romance. And a lot of the trailer focuses on the romance, so... meh?

Remember that other book by Stephanie Meyer? You know, the one that is not about bishe vampires?
Yeah, its getting a movie.
Should we panic?
