[up][up] [up] This is not exactly that though, Cuckold is just "historically derogatory term for a man who has an unfaithful wife"

It's derogatory, yes, but it's not vulgar. And it's derogatory mostly because the idea of it is seen as shameful no matter what. Thus it's a perfectly acceptable English title. Even the page admits that Netorare = Cuckhold.

[up][up]It still carries the same meaning in porn, though. So he's right about that.

Well, the name should be something like Cuckold Porn or Cuckold Genre. If we just called it Cuckold, as Raso said, people would start listing every male character whose partner cheats on him.

Good point. It would actually be worse than that, since the literal definition simply means "man whose wife sleeps with other people". Cheating need not even be required.

Cuckold Genre is what I'm supporting.

Should we add a porn in there? Like Cuckhold Porn Genre?

I don't think so. It's not all porn. Some of is is hentai, but a lot of it is just etchi.

Ah, finally! I've been wanting to take this to TRS, but I had to queue.

I started this a couple of aeons ago, but after a while I support making this a general Cuckold Plot trope instead, and make the Japanese fanspeak an internal subtrope. Some parts of the description might be more suited to analysis, but doing analysis on this sort of thing might be too much.

On the article's tone, if anything it seems quite defensive—I don't understand how it can sound like complaining. It's just a notoriously divisive genre, you just have to acknowledge it, by informing people about its infamy in more or less objective terms. King Zeal seems to understand it best.

The -Genre custom title was added by Eddie along with Ryokan (inn) and others some time ago, but if we're going to expand the name, it will be less odd (since it's not the main title anymore). Since it's not necessarily porn, and sometimes doesn't encompass a whole work, I'd prefer something like Cuckold Plot.

Well, if we are sure that the trope's basic premise of "husband/fiance/boyfriend gets cuckolded by someone seducing/raping his wife/fiancee/girlfriend, who either ends up liking it or is Fridge Logic-inducingly passive/nonresistant" is common enough in Western porn, I wouldn't mind renaming the trope while keeping Netorare Genre as a redirect. However, "Cuckold" as a noun strictly refers to the guy whose wife/lover is cheating on him; a proper name would be Cuckolding Plot.

If you want to confirm it, go to either Literotica and search "Cuckold" or to a search site like Porn Hub, Red Tube or Spankwire and search it.

Given the recent backlash against porn related content on this wiki, might it not be a good idea to just cut this article? Even if TRS doesn't decided to cut it, it will almost certainly get flagged for review by 5P.

I honestly don't know what to do about it.

The genre itself isn't inherently porn, but it's used a lot in porn. It's kind of like What Is This Thing You Call "Love"? in that respect.

[up][up]Let's leave the cutting for the 5P. This is a genre with 7000 inbounds. For now, it just needs a better description.

Doubleposting for not knowing better.

I think that the 1st and 4th paragraphs of the description can go. They are the most complainy ones.

I would say they need to be rewritten, actually. The parts which state how much backdraft this genre gets are accurate. Objectively speaking, this genre has a massive Love It or Hate It divide.

[up]Do we really need to record the opinions people have about a genre? In the trope description?

I don't see why can't briefly mention the reaction as it relates to how the genre works, as is done in Horror (which talks about how "well" the genre ages) and Misery Lit (which talks about the types of emotions it stirs up).

The nature of this genre is central to the delicate fantasy between two conflicting emotions (jealousy and attraction).

[up]I think that this boils down to "Opinions/Audience Reception in the article description go as soon as they become a problem"

Ugh. Why do we have so many subjective rules?

I don't understand, though: why is it a problem?
