Regarding the questions, they were along the lines of "who is your favorite monster girl", "why", and "how do you do your research".

Other questions include:

  • Are Dullahans born with their heads attached or detached.
  • Will there be BL or Yuri in Monster Musume?
  • Do your parents know what you're drawing?
  • How long will Monster Musume run?
  • Will there be stories focusing on men like Kimihito and girls with monster boys?
  • Will there be an American spinoff?
  • Do you get tired of drawing non-human legs?
  • Which is your favorite monster girl to draw?
  • Will Suu and Rachnera's parents appear?
  • Describe your workspace.

Do we have a link to that interview somewhere? I'd love to hear/read the answers to those.

It's been fun.

So the series will NEVER END?

Like, I'm not complaining so far, but I do hope he doesn't suffer from burnout and then the series just starts getting bad.

...And I'm glad Centorea is his favorite. tongue

... Inui-sensei is an awesome mangaka and I think someone should draw high-quality fan art that depicts him (even if as a hermit crab) and Centorea as a married couple to thank him for all his efforts.

Wait, is Okayado single or married? Because if it's the latter, then he might take the above fan art wrong (or his wife may get insulted).

So he wants Monmusu to be te Kochikame of raunchy comedy?

I'm not sure I'd follow a 50+ volumes of the stuff. >.> Sure the possibilies are endless with monster girls, but it's gonna get old at some point.

There's always the old standby of 'Akamatsu's wife demands hiatus'.

And I'd like Inui-sensei to make it to 50 chapters before he starts on 50 volumes. =)

It's been fun.

After reading that tumblr post I must say that some questions were pretty obvious (Okayado a boob man? Who'd have guessed, eh?), but maybe I'm just bummed because the questions I sent through Twitter weren't accepted (to be fair, they were a little stupid). Then again, I'm genuinely surprised to discover that Centorea is the author's favorite.

So Okayado plans to continue the series until he dies? Not sure if that's a good idea but there are almost endless possibilities in terms of creatures, even if a harem comedy could become stale pretty fast if not done well. But I have faith in him! He seems such a humble, down-to-earth fellow and sincerely happy to have many foreign fans.

I'm also curious about his Berserk fanarts! Since there are already a ton of references in the manga, why not pay homage to Miura's series and have Darling dressed as Gatsu, even if just for a splash page? Maybe with some terrified orcs around him...

"Effective Altruism" is just another bunch of horsesh*t.

I am pleased that Okayado is willing to draw monster boys if the people want to see some. Because one thing what I do dislike about Cute Monster Girl trope is how inequal it can be when it comes to both sexes (self-titled "Monstrous Male Humanoid Female" syndrome). I mean, only male species what we have seen are Orcs, Centaurs (which admittedly are accurate to the myth, but the contrast between male and female behaviour is jarring) and fishmen. I don't necessarily don't care if any monster boys would have just a background mention or something like that, but just to see that they exist, and aren't emphasizing the "monster" part of things.

You know what I would like to see? Abhorrent Admirer female orc.

I don't mind sexual dimorphism. Sex and ecchiness in general tend to be particular tastes (one person's kink is another's nightmare). Still,if the author goes your way I wouldn't mind.

And one of the exposition's in the mermaid queen chapters showed some male mermen to go with the model you mentioned

Edit: In chapter 36, more specifically.

The thing that makes me mad in this manga is not the fact that the monster guys look monstrous or not. It is the fact that when they are mentioned is always to lose their girls to humans or to look inferior to the human guys (orcs, centaurs, mermen). Did anybody even mentioned the husband of Centorea's mother after that issue? Could anyone imagine the shitstorm if that situation came to light (as it should, because to hell with lies)? And what about the centaur boys: "Son, your real father never raised you, he just had to fool around with me while that foolish cuck raised you. BTW, I am a brave and honourable knight."

That kind of shit would really make me consider war and genocide.

[up][up]Centaur culture is so fucked in the DLWMG universe [lol]

[up][up][up]Agreed on all points.

Also, I think the issue is Japan's Orcs are still using 1st/2nd Edition D&D-style orcs whereas the rest of the world decided "You know, these things are too fucking stupid and impossible to take seriously"

There's no Blizzard Orcs. Thrall would be pissed if he found out what these guys are doing.

Also seriously, are all male centaurs brutal gonks? Ya think some at least would start growing better looks in this age.

I have the feeling if, say, Cerea had a son with Kimihto, said son would end up looking more Bishōnen or Hunk, instead of the gonks that are Male Centaurs.

[up][up][up] To be fair, I am tired of the Noble Savage trope aplied to orcs.

"They didn't do nothing wrong, it is humanity and civilization that is evil..."

Ah, go hug a tree, orc hippie! [lol]

There are another ways to write on the devlopment of monstrous races besides "kill them all", "they are brainwashed by the evil masters" or "we are the real monsters".

As for the centaurs, I see some Double Standard on the author's part in concern to the sexes goodness. Almost all females are good, or at least repent or say sorry at some point (see Draco), exception was the gonkish human woman and the former host family of Rachnee. Now for the villainous guys, you see more of a parody of masculinity: rough faces, beards, body hair, non feminized appearance...

[up] [lol]

Well, they are not people.

They are metaphors for savagery, barbarism and chaos. So they are fictional rampacious rapists.

If I wrote a story about them it would be about lets say a couple of orcs tired of the bullshit. They leave orc land for elf or human land. After a lot of grievances and arrows shot since the other 999 times that orcs came was to kill and rape they are accepted.

Other orcs start coming too. One of the orcs is super happy about it and the other is paranoid. Same attitudes in the host city.

In the end it is a tiny minority of orcs (10% let's say) that want to really assimilate and throw away the murder rape, kill, culture. The others 90% are riding the wave to infiltrate and screw things up. In the subsequent chaos:

-The evil orcs use the good orcs as hostages and usefull idiots. If they are attacked "#Not All Orcs"

-The good orcs are divided if they stay loyal to their former families or to the new city that hosted them.

-The human/elves don't know are somewhere between attacking and losing some of the inocent orcs or NOT attacking and losing THEIR inocent lives.

Oh god, now I am reminded of "A Friendly Orc’s Daily Life", which is about a perfectly decent orc pestered by a lewd elf.

You know, I was about to make a point how the series follows One-Gender Race of mythological creatures when it's convenient (harpies are all-female, but centaurs have both genders), but then again, that basically applies to so many works, why bother. Plus that is getting super-deep into other stuff like usage of Lamia and Minotaur.

[up][up] Even Tolkien wasn't happy with the idea of an entire race that was Always Chaotic Evil.

He did it anyway because he wanted some faceless mobs that could be slaughtered guilt free without worrying about whether they had any internal life. But he wasn't happy with it.

Its not a great trope really.

As a personal preference thing, I prefer fantasy and alien races with a bit more three-dimensionality.

[up][up]At least with Lamia and Harpies he can go back to the fact that historically speaking those creatures were always (or at least usually) female and he's just being accurate to the mythology. It does get weird when you go to centaurs and merpeople and such though. I mean, I can understand why he does it (it's an ecchi series about monster girls; of course it's going to focus disproportionately on them), but it does get pretty strange when you look at the logical repercussions.

I do think it would be funny to introduce a race where those stereotypes are reversed and it's the females are who monstrous and scary while all the males are much more humanoid.
