Exactly.
Either way- the name is confusing or the trope definition needs work.
"You want to see how a human dies? At ramming speed." - Emily Wong.Sooo, what's going on with this?
I think "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship should be a non-gender-specific trope about the idea that adolescent same-sex crushes are sort of "romantic training wheels" and they'll grow out of it. Agree/object?
Would the people who think Schoolgirl Lesbians is a valid trope supply a sample writeup of whatever they think it's about? Because right now it's a mess.
And do we need a Yuri Girls trope? I can YKTTW it.

I like the idea of making "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship non-gender-specific. I know the male version comes up in Brideshead Revisited.

It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdIf we do, we have to make the definition very strict—I suspect we'll get a lot of enthusiastic fangirls adding characters like Kuwabara and Yusuke if they can. Also, it strikes me that the Japanese probably deliberately invoke RTGF—how often is a romantic two-boy friendship invoked? Does it happen often enough to warrant expanding genders?
How often is a romantic two-boy friendship invoked?
My understanding is that in certain genres, it is pretty common.

The male version probably doesn't appear in certain demographics or genres. I really doubt you'll see one in a shonen fighter series or shonen at all.
Romantic Two Guy Friendship is typically associated with the Victorian era / early 20th century, especially in boys-school settings (like Another Country), the same as the "schoolgirl pash". But I think a more indicative name might be something like Harmless Same-Sex Crush. I think the writeup should make it clear that this is not specifically a Japanese trope, although it is a Discredited Trope in Western works. Again, the trope will be "same-sex relationship as training wheels for eventual adult heterosexuality". That lets out most modern Japanese anime/manga examples (but includes the Class S novels and some early proto-yuri/yaoi).

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.I made a Yuri Girls [[YKTTW https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=jda1bzvxeq2btwc3xuzm0b6c]], using the Schoolgirl Lesbians page. Anyone want to give it the once-over, maybe check the "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship page for other examples, pease do.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Bump. Still hoping the people who think Schoolgirl Lesbians is a trope will stop by and propose a definition.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. The Hotter and Sexier version of the Coming-Out Story, Lesbian school girl stories tend to focus a bit more on the sexuality and how hot it is that these two young girls are into each other than societies reactions. Often times parental and societal disapproval are touched on, but they're generally a minor theme and are often discarded in favour of Girl on Girl Is Hot. For some reason there's a Double Standard and Gay Schoolboys do not tend to get the same sort of it's ok if it's hot treatment outside of Fan Fiction.
DEBS would be an example of this sort of work.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOK, great.
Now what's the scope? This looks like more of a "mainstream Western fiction" trope (the premise is shot to hell and gone in BL, and there's lots of "sweet and innocent" GL). How do we make it so that people won't dump every example of "they're lesbians and they're in school" on the page?
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Yeah, it's definitely a mainstream western media trope. Japan seems to treat homosexuality very different in a lot of cases. I'm not sure how to keep any schoolgirls that are lesbians out of it though. That's the trickier bit.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickClocked per request.
The token yuri couple YKTTW is stalled for lack of support, any input is appreciated.
Opinions on changing Schoolgirl Lesbians to shima's proposed description?

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Unlocking by request, but clocking.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.OK, Token Yuri Girls is launched, I'd appreciate help with sorting examples off Schoolgirl Lesbians and "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship onto that. I've also started a YKTTW for Harmless Same-Sex Crush, which, if it launches, I'd like to propose as a replacement for "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship.
Also still looking for opinions on shima's proposal for redefining Schoolgirl Lesbians to something like post #37.

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. As this concerns both, is it possible somehow to add a TRS flag to "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship as well as Schoolgirl Lesbians? I think I've seen a TRS thread flagged on two pages...
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Would a crowner help here, or is everyone just burned out on this?
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Burned out on everything in general. This really isn't the best time to be dealing with anything.
However, letting a crowner run might be a good idea. What would be on it?
Option suggested so far:
- Redefine SL per shima's suggestion or something along those lines
- Replace RTGF with something like this YKTTW
- Merge SL & RTGF on the grounds that they're being used for about the same thing
- Cut SL as "lesbian" plus "schoolgirl" and therefore Not A Trope
- Make the RTGF definition more specific, perhaps as suggested here by Helter Skelter
Looks good to me. Let's get that up.
Crowner here. Feel free to add more options if you have alternative ideas.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. The crowner was created after the clock was set.
Crown Description:
Schoolgirl Lesbians and Romantic Two Girl Friendship are currently being used almost identically for young lesbian or yuri-style characters in anime/manga (and elsewhere). Token Yuri Girls has been created for "yuri-style characters outside of Yuri Genre works" to clean some of the misuse. What else should be done to fix these pages? (Note: not all options are mutually exclusive, please use judgement.)
Yeah, more like that. There are tropes that are more confined to that relationship though and they aren't as confined to that genre as male gay couples are. There's a lot of elements of forbidden love and taboos about gay characters that are part of the trope.
