Well, as the trope indicates, the trope namer is not actually an example. That's not a good sign.
Also, while the pun is obvious, the trope is really unrelated to the saying "guys will be guys". That's also not a good sign.
Impersonation plots are very common in fiction, so I would expect a trope like this to see way more usage than it actually does.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! The trope, if I'm reading it, is: 1. important character is unavailable 2. another character has to fill in 3. hilarity ensues.
Which would mean that the episode of Angel in question actually is an example. It looks like whoever wrote that it wasn't an example had some Not A Subversion issues. Does the trope require that the main protagonist is the one doing it, or that An Aesop is learned?
I don't think the trope is common enough that the current usage numbers should be considered unhealthily low.
That being said, I think there's potential for misuse here, since the title makes a vague reference to "Guises" that could be misinterpreted. I'd be interested in seeing a Wick Check. Also, the description is a little unclear. Could be tidied up.

Rhymes with "Protracted."It's more like 1. important person is unavailable. 2. another person has to impersonate them. 3. various outcomes ensue of which hilarity is only one of them.

Rhymes with "Protracted."So is that actually one trope? Or multiple?
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! It would be a Plot Trope.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I've never seen them but two examples might be better a Trope Namer: Lend me a Tenor, or A Knight for a Day
Other suggestions:
Emergency Impersonation
Impromptu Body Double
Conscripted Stand-In

Filling In For X might be good, as would Impromptu Body Double
Found a subtrope, not wicked to: Subbing for Santa

There is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.
Since January 1, 2011 this article has brought 250 people to the wiki from non-search engine links.
I would have to see a Wick Check before I'm willing to support a rename. It seems like very relevant data to have.
Rhymes with "Protracted.""Could be better" seems like a very weak reason. It's too bad we don't follow the Old Ways: "The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword."
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The word is "punny" not "puny."
That said, I agree this should be renamed.

Correct: Series/Angel// Buffy The Vampire Slayer// Criminal Doppelgänger// Dr Who magazine// The Little Match Girl (the Hogfather example)// The Power of Acting (Double Star)// Uncanny Family Resemblance (The Prisoner Of Zenda)//
Gentleman Bastards: probably correct// Xena Warrior Princess: several examples, most correct// Androids of Tara: ????//
Myth Adventures: probably wrong
Sluggy Freelance: wrong// Spanish Civil War: wrong

If we are to rename it, can it at least be something that sounds interesting? Filling In For X is just so sterile. Titles should remain fun, surely?
Calling crowner in favor of renaming.
I didn't write any of that.Given the support for a rename, there is now a an alternative titles crowner for this trope here. Feel free to add names as you see fit.

Huh, I don't like any of these names.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Is this safe to call?

Rename to Emergency Impersonation; let the scutwork begin. Please holler for a discussion move if it's needed.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I've moved Guise Will Be Guise and all its wicks to Emergency Impersonation and updated Renamed Tropes and the FAQ thread. Several examples were Zero Context Examples and now rest in the discussion pages. There is no discussion to be moved, so this should be lockable.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
Yeah, so the name of this uses a pun that doesn't have anything to do with the actual trope and is not descriptive at all. It comes from an episode of Angel that didn't even play this trope straight.
Performance is honestly not that bad but it could probably be better. This is pretty common I think.
