We're going to appoint people in each of the subforums to welcome newbies in by an automated PM and show them how things work in the particular subforum.
The appointment thing is so that at least one person knows it is their job, and so the newbie doesn't get buried under a PM onslaught the first time they post.
We will give the appointee (now called Heralds) a spiffy icon badge so people will know they are on the job for everybody. There will also be access to a report that shows who is new in the subforum.
If you want to apply for the position, all you have to do is post a welcome draft here. That way, a moderator will consider you. If someone else has already applied for the position, don't worry! Multiple people can apply for one subforum.
This is a list of the heralds that have already been appointed and the subforums that still need heralds.
Open sections with inactive heralds:
- Betsyandthe Five Avengers — World Building
- Ori Doodle — Old Folks Home
- Cyto Zytokine — New Media
- Totemic Hero — Webcomics
- JHM — Music
- Parable — On-Topic Conversations
- GastonRabbit — Content Violation Discussions

I guess that many threads and subforums there could use links to them.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI thought the point of Forum Herald was that you originally just wrote "Herald", which doesn't convey as much to someone who doesn't know about the heralds.
Fresh-eyed movie blogGame spazzer, that looks really good.
Fantasy, I only suggested deleting the pie hole line cause it read awkwardly. And paradox answered the forum herald question.

DoodlesThank you. Anything I need to fix?
MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistOkay Doodle, thanks for the input. I'll consider changing that line.
Fantasy Liver, I don't see you posting in the comics forum. Are you sure you want to be the herald?
Reviewing the forum games drafts. They need a couple of tweaks, but I should pick one soon enough.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI posted a few times but, yeah, it's not the area I post much in. However, I do love comics. I want to be the herald but I see your point. I will start posting more but if you don't accept me, I totally understand.
In addendum to that question, would you consider that I posted too little in Troper Covens to apply for the Forum Herald position?
"We are Libris. We will add your literary distinctiveness to our own. Collection is imminent. Resistance is futile." -Tuefel PM box opeBumping this, because I have a question: What is the
Well, the simple way to do that is to look at your PM history. All the Herald messages sent by "you" are there.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThis thing. Not sure how it works.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanLooks unimplemented. My guess is the way it was intended to work was that you would plug in the URL code for each subforum into the feature's URL (or the software would do that for you), and then it would tell you that information.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)It was implemented, and did show a list of people, far as I can tell. However, it was soon succeeded by the auto-PM, meaning there's never anyone unwelcomed to show up on it.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I did check it against Trope Talk, and no founds, even if there isn't a herald there.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow will Nocturna's heraldship of SE work with the forum split, particularly if SE itself is no longer used?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I think of something like Roleplay: Daltar has one message for each section.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThank you for asking my question for me.
I'm naturally awesome that way.
Actually, he's only the herald of Role Playing, the "main" forum in that zone. I recall that having three messages or one message for all three (detecting which one someone posted in first) was discussed but in the end he's just set up for one.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I really would like to know how the change affects my heraldship, particularly if I'm going to have to be revising/rewriting my message. Although I'll take a "we're waiting to get things a bit more settled in before we decide" if that's all you know.
Well, according to the herald list there is no herald for either Project forum.
Also bumping.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYou know, I'm surprised that Forum Games still doesn't have a herald...
I'm perfectly willing to take over heraldship for both forums (or just one, if double isn't possible/permitted), as they're really just Special Efforts split in half under a different name.
Shadow Bender/Motor Runner used to be the herald, but he got suspended and left the site in frustration, and there was never one after that.
MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistThere won't be any new heralds (or reassignment of you, Nocturna) until Eduardo de Rapido gets around to doing it.
No offense intended, but frankly I wouldn't count on that happening any time soon. This whole project has fallen by the wayside. (It doesn't help that there's seemingly not a lot of consensus on exactly what pull we have as heralds.)

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)
Okay. Here's my message:
Hello, [[troper]]. If you're reading this message, it means you've decided to enter the Forum Games section of the forum. "Gee wilikers, GameSpazzer, I sure am excited!" you say. Well, that's super, Timmy! Is your name Timmy? Well, close enough. Anyway, there are a few things to keep in mind on this section. "Gosh, GameSpazzer, what are those?" I'm glad you asked, [[troper]]. This PM will hopefully give you a quick rundown of them:
1. Please remember to read the forum rules. They are a healthy part of your forum diet.
2. Try not to remake threads that already exist. We have threads for pretty much everything, so if you can find one that's not locked but you think deserves a bump, there's no shame in necroing it.
3. Remember, you're playing a game. Probably a silly one, at that. Serious Business isn't really needed around here. And if you're going to make a new thread, stop and ask yourself if you're making a game before you hit that button.
4. There is one fetish thread, The Nunnery, located in Yack Fest. Please don't make any more here. There is also only one official fighting thread, found here. Try to stay on-topic. Battle Royale after Battle Royale in threads about, say, cabbage, can become irritating very quickly.
5. While a good chunk of the games involve roleplaying of a sort, this isn't the Roleplaying Subforum. If you want to make a Roleplay Thread with an established setting, plot, and GM, take it over there.
You can also check out the Forum Games Recommendation Thread here, if you want to promote a game.
That should be about it. Feel free to ask me any questions, and remember to have fun!
