I haven't read through all 31 pages of this thread, so I'm not sure if this has been brought up.
But there really should be one more trope between Accidental Nightmare Fuel and High Octane Nightmare Fuel.
Accidental is when something is not intended to be scary, but is.
High Octane is when something is intended to be scary, and is horrifying.
However, there are plenty of examples where something is intended to be scary, and while it certainly is pretty spooky, it's not to the extreme that High Octane entails.
Hence why I feel there should be an in-between that covers things that are intended to be scary, and turn out to be scary, but not to the point of horror that is High Octane.
We already have a Horror Tropes index. And, yes, I do believe that is what you're talking about. Either that or you think there should be a trope about things being scary.
Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman.I guess that works. I just find it odd when I find something that's potholed to High Octane Nightmare Fuel, when it really isn't all that scary (for instance, the caption on Turns Red brought this to my attention).
If you want to split High Octane Nightmare Fuel, the thread is here. And I strongly disagree - there is no need to distinguish between scary and ''really'' scary.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIs wick cleanup going on at all for this? The Special Efforts thread is dead.
Anyway, it seems Eddie is too busy to respond to this, so please manually change over the namespaces when you find them. We'll just have to wait on the color change.
If cleanup is going on, I'm going to close this. The special efforts can take over from there.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Where is the Special Efforts thread?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd assumed we were repurposing this one, since you bumped it.
If not, we still don't have one.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.This has been an old problem - wick cleanup threads in Special Efforts tend to stall out quickly, and TRS threads leaving only that don't attract interest.
I made a possible solution in the Wiki Talk thread in the second paragraph here - it could help in cleaning up NF/ANF/HONF too.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhere are all those nightmare-fuel-lovers who vehemently supported keeping this disaster and promised to work on the clean-up?
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.
Real life has recently bitch slapped me in the face (school bleh) so I kind of lost track of the thread. I have a family function shortly but once I get back I will check out the special efforts thread.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"*looks at the crowner*
So can I just go ahead and move all the pages in the NightmareFuel namespace now?
(Thread Hop; I'm only human.)

Better not. We'll have to wait for Eddie's response to ccoa's auto-rename request.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAlright.
Has Eddie been PMed?
Yes. But I've no idea how long his technical to-do list is.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI don't think you have to wait - if you're working on the page anyway, might as well move it. It hurts nothing, and who knows how long it will be until Eddie has time, even assuming the tool exists.

Me too, and I'd like to suggest "Possible Nightmare Fuel". For those times when the creator(s) of a work put something in there not intentionally trying to scare or disturb their audience, but realizing that they very well might.
Example: Darth Vader Force-choking somebody to death. That's the stuff of nightmares for a certain percentage of the audience, and I'm sure the writers of The Empire Strikes Back knew that when they wrote the story. Their primary intent wasn't to scare the crap out of everybody, though, but rather to show that Vader was an evil person by having him Kick the Dog.

Gods, please no. Those pages are enough of a mess without adding a third for people to confuse for the other two.
Where are the people who promised to help clean this up if we kept it? The special efforts thread is dead.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.They are gone. And I don't expect that we'll get anything done here - in fact, I bet that soon we'll have to hault this thing into TRS for the umpteenth time again for exactly the same problems.
Let's hope that when that happens, crowner options need a sufficient number of people signing up to execute them or else they are disqualified.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis is a good time to bring that idea in wiki talk. This is a serious issue. Everyone wants to have nice things, but they aren't working for them.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerBumping this with the notice of an existing HONF thread & crowner
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnd this is why I was hoping we'd just get an admin-fiat cut, since I knew this exact scenario would occur.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Should have made Nightmare Fuel the page for Scary Moments.
Should have made High Octane Nightmare Fuel a redirect for Nightmare Fuel.
Should have dropped Accidental Nightmare Fuel altogether and have the (almost never actually used) concept go under a name without Nightmare Fuel in it.
I knew this would happen. I knew the tropers who promised to help wouldn't (or would give up after a while), and that Nightmare Fuel would continue to be used as High Octane Nightmare Fuel-lite. The same thing may now be happening with Eldritch Abomination.
TRS, I am disappoint.

I think the only idea to settle that would be this idea
Anyone for Wiki Talk-ing it?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanA lot of the "Let's fix Nightmare Fuel!" people are probably gone because fixing these pages is ridiculously difficult. I tried to fix some of the pages, but so many of the examples are tainted with first-person pronouns, This Troper, Thread Mode, Weblinks Are Not Examples... I'm thinking now that maybe these pages are impossible to fix. They always were, because they were full of bad examples. Nightmare Fuel/Toys and Theme Parks are basically glorified Troper Tales.
At this point, I don't really care about Nightmare Fuel. The pages aren't fun to read, and they're apparently impossible for anyone to edit without describing their own experiences with it, not how objectively scary the subject at hand is.
I say we preserve the examples in a wiki, just like Fetish Fuel and Troper Tales, and be done with it. But then, there's the problem of all of the preexisting pages that reference Nightmare Fuel while being separate from the Nightmare Fuel pages. I don't know what to do, but whatever solution we come up with, due to the sheer size of Nightmare Fuel, it'll be a bitch to enact.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency
