Shouldn't this be switched with Not Distracted By The Sexy: Ignore The Fanservice

Courtesy link for the latter trope.

Not looking at either of the trope pages, which one would you guess was about nobody reacting to the presence of the scantily clad Ms. Fanservice character and which one is about a singular character paying little attention to another character's sexual advances?

In less rhetorical terms, both names seem rather counterintuitive in that they seem to better describe the trope of the other name. Is this just me?

Edit: Shit, I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum? Can any of the mods move it?

I sent in a holler for this to be moved to TRS...that's what you wanted, correct?

So now we are letting pages be opened in the repairshop if someone just makes the topic in another forum then transfer it in? Isn't that just an exploit around the capacity limit? Can I do this too? If not this should probably be shelved.

I do kinda agree (both should probably pointed at Not Distracted At The Sexy and a new name chosen for the other one.) but is there any wicks to prove that people are making this mistake?

Hm, I thought we'd already agreed to swap the names for these tropes.

@ Raso: No, that is not acceptable. I took it on good faith that this was a sincere error, and maybe I shouldn't have, but deliberately exploiting the system like that will not be tolerated.

This is not the first time the topic has come up.

If we go by this logic, "Not Distracted by the Sexy" should be the in-universe trope (but it's not) while "Ignore the Fanservice" should be the Audience Reaction trope (but it's not either).

Precisely. So why haven't the names been switched, then, if this has come up before?

Not Distracted by the Sexy isn't about ignoring an out-of-universe trope (Fanservice), though. It's about ignoring nudity or whatever—in many ways, just an aversion of Distracted by the Sexy.

Am I misreading the tropes? Because I really don't understand the problem. If anything, I would suggest they be merged.

Okay, reading Ignore the Fanservice makes the problem much more clear. Not Distracted by the Sexy doesn't have a very clear definition, and is basically being used as Ignore the Fanservice. So I support swapping the titles, and then reformating the trope currently named Not Distracted by the Sexy to be about viewers ignoring the fanservice. Is that what everyone else is thinking?

I support repurposing Not Distracted by the Sexy for the trope that it fits, but we don't need an Audience Reaction about ignoring fanservice.

I'd also like to ask how the trope that Not Distracted by the Sexy currently refers to is even a trope at all.

I think the idea is that characters tend to give no reaction to Stripperiffic or other revealing costumes in a work where we would normally expect them to do so. That sounds like a trope to me.

In other words

which one would you guess was about nobody reacting to the presence of the scantily clad Ms. Fanservice character and which one is about a singular character paying little attention to another character's sexual advances?

these concepts are two separate tropes. We don't need an audience reaction about ignoring fanservice, but the in-universe trope about no one reacting to elements that are there for fanservice seems tropable to me.

I agree with the switch. Currently:

1: Not Distracted by the Sexy is when a character ignores the Fanservice being provided to the Audience by another character.

2: Ignore the Fanservice is when a character ignores a second character that is deliberately trying to get the first character to pay attention through the use of sex appeal.

3: Distracted by the Sexy is simply when a character is distracted by another sexy character, regardless of whether the sexy character is doing it deliberately or not.

4: Show Some Leg is deliberately invoking Distracted by the Sexy.

It seems to me that Ignore the Fanservice is the better name for the first trope, and Not Distracted by the Sexy better for the second.

Again, almost positive that we'd already decided to swap the names. So, yeah, let's do that.

Ignore the Fanservice should be when characters ignore that other characters are designed to be fanservice for the audience, and just treat them as if everything is normal.

Not Distracted by the Sexy should be when a character ignore a deliberate attempt at distraction by sexy.

I'm thinking maybe Distracted by the Sexy would do better if renamed to Distracted By The Fanservice.

True. Reading it seems to include both deliberate and not deliberate attempts. To which I wonder what differs that from Show Some Leg... Collectively, these tropes seem like a mess to me.

As far as I can see, Show Some Leg is the gambit of trying to distract someone with the-sexy, regardless of whether it works and regardless of whether it arouses the audience (or whether the audience even sees it). Distracted by the Sexy is someone getting distracted by the sexy regardless of whether anyone intentionally tried to distract them or whether it was supposed to delight the audience. And fanservice is about skimpily or underdressed characters rewarding the audience regardless of whether it has any plot relevance at all.

I think we'd do well to exclude any examples of Show Some Leg from the Distracted by the Sexy page just to keep things separate. But link the pages clearly, saying that Show Some Leg is "an attempt to invoke Distracted by the Sexy" and saying on Distracted by the Sexy, "for examples of characters trying to attract this response, see Show Some Leg."

So you could say that Distracted by the Sexy is about the distracted character, and Show Some Leg is about the character who's doing the distraction?

Yeah, sort of. Or the action and the reaction. Since either can exist without the other.
