Eh...as a character, Old Dante's okay, but he's still vastly preferable to Swears-Like-A-Sailor, "Hey, look at a how mature I am now!" Dante.

...Vergil's better than either of them, though.cool

Colossal douchebag is still a personality. And well, not everybody has to like Dante. I think you're missing out, though. You ever played the games?

Hey the games can be great, doesn't change that Dante is a horrendous character.

I.... tried both God of War and Devil May Cry.

I honestly thought I hated hack and slash games until I ran across Lollipop Chainsaw. Then I realized I just hated those two games because I hated the obnoxious bad ass main characters.

I have Radec pegged as Generic FPS insert headcannon personality here dude, since I've never played Killzone, but from what I see from his guns being integrated into a 2-d Platform Fighter looks very interesting~ Even with his lack of vertical moves (Who shoots directly upwards in a FPS anyways?) , I'm sure he's a blast to play.

[up][up][up]No never got the chance. with the HD collection out I might try to get a hold of it since they do look fun. I tried to watch a few let's plays but it's one of those games that really only works when you're playing it.

But everytime I hated Dante. it's the same problem I have with Duke Nukem and Serious Sam. It feels like they're selling the main character as this ultimate bad ass but I'm not buying it. All his one liners are less funny and make him sound like a jerk. And again, it's not really anything to do with the quality of the games, I just dislike the character.

[up]That's pretty much Radec, but he's a bad guy in killzone.

I beat the first God of War, and yeah, Kratos is really hard to get behind. It doesn't help that his personality is AREEEEEEES! I only played a bit of Devil May Cry, but I've never really liked Dante's style. Then again, I don't typically like the 'Hardcore Badass' character. In fact, they really get on my nerves.

I don't really care whether or not he's in though, either incarnation. In a game like this, deep personality hardly comes across with any of the characters.

He's not a Hardcore Badass. He's a Cheesy Badass, and while I get how that might put some people off, it's a large part of his appeal. But you shouldn't say you hate him till you've played the games.

[up][up]God of War 2 is...significantly worse. It's the only one I've played and it really put me off the entire series.

Eh, I tend to avoid the badass type of characters in general, and focus my attention on the goofy types. Dante's attempts at being goofy, it just makes him look more like an asshole (Which was terrible when I picked up Marvel vs Capcom 3).

I also tended to hate God of War due to how much I disliked seeing some of my favorite mythological creatures and figures being torn apart from the blandest "protagonist" on earth.

Really, Radec is a villain? Huh... that will interfere with me giving him a headcannon personality akin to the Red vs. Blue characters.

I also am not a huge hack n' slash fan. Especially the games where you have to go hack hack hack hack hack hack hack hack hack without noticeable change in the opponent until it's dead.

If it's any consolation, in any difficulties but the easiest in DMC going hacky hacky at the opponent will get you killed. You have to think, and react quickly. Also, if you only know Dante from Mv C, you might have gotten the wrong impression. He's just as goofy in his games (less so in 2, but a lot more in 3 when he's a cocky kid and extremely so in 4 where he's not the protagonist and not even taking things seriously).

The thing about Cheesy badass though is it only works when you make notice of how bad the lines are. When Dante says stuff like "Flock off featherface!" I'd like it if the game acknowledged "That's a really dumb line and we all know it, but Dante's such a dork he doesn't realize it." But it feels more like "That's a dumb line but Dante made it awesome!" which I just don't like.

Then again when bayonetta says the same thing I totally believe it so maybe I'm just weird.

You're telling me the game took, say, Dante's tango of death in 4 seriously?

What made me love Dante so much is how he responds to the ludicrous situations he finds himself in by adamantly refusing to take them seriously and just playing along. I know if some woman suddenly burst into my office on a motorcycle and started shooting up the place, I'd be freaked. Dante's just like "Really? OK, whatever. I'll just roll with it."

But he was still capable of being serious when the situation called for it... even if the serious Dante was mostly Narm Charm incarnate. "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!" [lol]

I hate to segway, but all I have to say is this:

If Spike (Ape Escape) is confirmed- which is a good chance as of that leak- I'll do backflips.

I would immediately get my PS 3 fixed and rent this shit. Just for Ape Escape aknowledgement.

Do you think this will be like Pit in brawl? Do you think this will drum up interest in a third entry? Do you think it'll be Vita release I'll never play?

No, there's an Ape Escape 3. Hell, there's an Ape Escape for Playstation Move.

I just like the series and enjoy that Sony hasn't completely left it out in the cold. For America, at least. It was a bigger hit in Japan.

Ah, so there is. I meant Ape Escape 4. The series has been largely made of PSP spin offs and so far there hasn't been a true successor or PS 3 release. The Move one doesn't count.

[up]I think the closest thing to a successor would've been Million Monkeys.

Regarding Dante's attitude: I believe it's just a coping mechanism, given what we're shown throughout the series. He never asked to be born a half-demon with a huge legacy reaching throughout two worlds, nor did he ask to be born with a brother that hates human nature (and him by natural extension and sibling rivalry), so he does what just comes naturally: he learns to have fun with it.

Nonetheless, I'm excited for Ape Escape's possible inclusion in All-Starts Battle Royale.

Just like how Kingdom Hearts is "Disney meets Final Fantasy" despite the fact that the actual Final Fantasy characters are only cameos and the actual cast is more like "Disney meets Original Generation"?tongue

PSASBR will be making an appearance at Australia's EB Expo 2012.

Is it any good? Sydney's only 3 hours away from where I'm from.
