[up]For me watching AGE has been Wing all over again. There's so much potential, but it's all ultimately wasted.

I'm amazed Ghostlightning isn't ranting his face off at this week's episode honestly. I was looking to see his amazingly amusing rants to make it all feel better.

Yeah, me too. Although this episode did have some good choreography, like Obright and Fram's death-embrace and the heartfelt conversation that would have worked for, you know, non-derailed Zeheart. But I'm sure next week's episode will return to his usual eloquent bewailing.

[up][up]At least Wing had amusing stunts like Heero falling out of his Gundam cockpit onto his head and getting up, and Trowa's acrobatics... though it all depends on how much fun you get out of absurd things trying to be TTLY SRS.

AGE should have replaced the blatant sexism with, say, rosepetal bubblebaths, I'd love it to pieces then.

[up]I don't even get what they were thinking with Zeheart. His derailment is so ridiculous I have no words for it. If they wanted a straight up psycho, they could have kept Decil around, or introduced Zanald earlier and stronger, or made Ezelcant a madman from the start, or any number of things. There was no reason to make Zeheart into a mass-murderer without an explanation.

I was never a huge fan of Zeheart's, but I'm at least willing to admit that the concept was interesting. A Char Clone distinguished by Undying Loyalty rather than Chronic Backstabbing Disorder, could have been neat, if they'd actually given him a reason to be loyal to Ezelcant.

Then again, Ezelcant was wasted too. The original portrayal of him, as this messianic leader taking his people back to what he thinks is a paradise, worked. His motivations were good, and that bit about Kio reminding him of his son really could have gone somewhere. I want to know who sat down and said, "you know, we should just throw that all away in the name of making him capital E evil," only to then backpedal and have characters insist he's not that crazy.

Let's hope the SRW version of the story is better?

I don't play SRW, so this is where it stays.

They did that. His name was Harry Ord.

He was a pretty cool guy.

Ah, Harry Ord. You will never find a man who combines loyalty, sharp wits, and tacky clothing so well.

Not to mention his battlecries.

With a tasteful set of pajamas and a very nice battlecry, I might add. Universe is always a classic, in my opinion.

Well, one more episode for this to wrap up... technically. Since things are going as scheduled, we should see: the Vagan super-suit piloted by Zeera, which is then hijacked by SID, as well as Flit and Yurin's first talk in more than fifty years about sparing the Second Moon.

I actually have liked Gundam Age, to each his own, really. I respect your rights to dislike it, and I won't contribute to large arguments.

I liked the big battles, the explosions, Bits and Beams flying all over the place.

But...well, I like Kill Em All a lot, but...I think AGE is starting to run out of people to kill. Who do we have left? Who else can I imagine dying?

I like Gundam AGE, but I am not ashamed to say that it has made big mistakes, and something that could have turned out great is now merely average and riddled with issues.

I posted the list a page or two ago, as things are following the game's ending. The answer is no one else of note will die, as the show already killed everyone who also got killed in the game.

And while it is your right to enjoy the show, one ALSO has to be honest with one's self, and call it on its failings.

I like SEED and AGE, and I will gladly admit to their flaws. They don't stop me from enjoying it for what it is. Same can be said for pretty much anything, really.

[up] Yeah, some character motivations did get a bit...weird, but I enjoyed them nonetheless.

War does do utterly weird things to commanders. Its just an explanation I proscribe to. Though I will say Fram's death was more than a little tasteless. The way women are treated is...actually understandable, though, given Japan's values dissonance from what we're used to.

AGE was flawed, but I liked it nonetheless. And it gave me whole heaps of humongous mecha ideas for RP's involving Humongous Mecha. Vagan Mechs are so cool.

Well since that's cleared, we can move on to the finale.

According to the game we're supposed to have Kio fight Zeera and the ultimate Vagan suit, AND have him call Flit out on nuking the Second Moon. There's also SID going Giant Space Flee From Nowhere and hijacking said supersuit... Yeah. I have no idea how this will end well, as this was apparently spread across several stages in the game.

Apparently the clone dude doesn't have more than two lines in the game.

Thrilling!

[up][up] Understandable considering culture, I suppose, but they still need to not get this writing team for the next Gundam show. I still feel like all the other shows I've watched (G, Turn A, Wing, Unicorn, 00), while each having their own problems for sure, have done a much better job with the women.

[up] Thrilling indeed! Wow. I would have thought he had more than that.

[up]Given some of AGE's interesting ideas, I'd say they should invite the writers to the brainstorming session, take the good stuff they come up with, and then have better writers build a story around it.

The problem with AGE is not the writers. It's the writer. Hino singlehandedly wrote the whole series composition, as far as we know, he had no feedback.

Honestly, wasn't it Sunrise who decided to make this an anime in the first place? Blame should go to them in that case.

MyssaRei Since: Feb, 2010
#1446: Sep 17th 2012 at 9:08:14 PM

[up][up]

That's because Hino is not from Sunrise, but level 5. It was he who did the game's script afterall. The thing is, things that might fly in an action game definitely will NOT translate well to a year-long anime.

Given the Agarest games Level 5 makes, which are incredibly similar to AGE in some ways, I am not overly surprised. In those, your love interest will, most of the time, die in the process of making the always male next generation protag.

This is partly in jest, but I was thinking of adding the Dying Declaration of Love to Zeheart's G3 entry... if only because of the last part of his speech to Asemu. :P

Agarest is not from Level-5, at least wikipedia says so.

...Just one writer who does video games and worked on his own.

That explains a hell of a lot. Wow. How did they think that was the best way to do this?
