If we could see the 4th Wall, what would it look like? How do you picture it? Have you ever seen an artist's interpretation of what they thought it would look like?

I think it would be an invisible wall. Those who try to break it have trouble finding it, so only the truly skilled can do it successfully.

Talk to the hand.

A huge wall of purest matter, splattered with paint, bearing the lean-dents and break holes of generations and covered in wall lamps, most without shades.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

It would look like nothing we could comprehend. Only visible in a sensory way, like when you feel watched. It may even have a 'presence' (an agenda to those more paranoid). It occupies every point in space and time. Maybe it started the big bang or something. *shutting up now*.

It be a big mirror... Well we'll think it's a mirror but it's actually a dimensional camera lens.

The lens of the camera.

Boy, that sure was difficult.

It looks like an audience.

Quite simple.

Above all, always remember to stay positive.

All that ever was, is, and shall be, except watched by an audience beyond the comprehension of our mere minds of fleshy matter. Their sensory organs record all that transpires on our side, perhaps having their equivalent of a joke at our expense.

Perhaps there is an institution similar to this one, upon which many of these creatures discuss the possible meanings and conventions in our lives, while others scorn them for their dedication to a fictional world.

Or perhaps the wall is your computer screen, and that oddly persistent virus is a desperate escape attempt, to free themselves from a sterile world of chaos and destruction watched over by an uncaring and sadistic god, who convenes with them through his dreaded messenger, the Mouse Who Is No Mouse.

We know from observation that the so-called Fourth Wall looks like any other wall. When the Omniscience moves its viewpoint, we can see that where it was is no different than where it is. The only exception is that those in the observed space, with some exceptions, will never look directly at the Omniscience. In this regard the Omniscience is like the fnord of legend, the Thing That Must Be Disregarded.

As for the exceptions noted above, some people have the training, or sheer strength of will, to look directly at the Omniscience and to address it. Very often they comment on events we have seen or will see—no doubt they agree with Socrates on the value of examining one's own life.

We exist in a 3-dimensional space. The fourth wall is the wall that lines this 3-dimensional space and protects us from the meta-layer "above" us. The closest face of this wall at any given point in the universe is in the direction of some 4-dimensional vector, hence the name "fourth wall."

The fourth wall is a "magic mirror" of sorts: we can view anything anywhere, and at any time. Furthermore, those being viewed cannot see into the wall. They can acknowledge it, though.

It's a wall made of a very fine matter. It looks noisy and grainy and if you touch it you die.

I'd picture it'd shatter like a glass wall but it'd look like a proper wall.

Barely an admirable figure.
