I have to ignore the TF 2 references to make that one work for me.
However if we're gonna talk about A Us, allow me to point out the fanfic rec of Chosen. Which is basically Evangelion by way of a pure fantasy story.
The story is visually dense and information dense, making it something of a struggle to read, but it's generally worth it. Don't try to plow through the whole thing in one sitting. You'll burn out.
Nous restons ici.Stock recommendations: Shinji And Warhammer40k and Nobody Dies. I also rather liked ARSENAL and Thousand Shinji. Others didn't hold my attention enough to remember.

Shinigan (Naruto fanfic)Ok yeah, sorry to be that guy but I need to plug my own in here. To be fair, I'll make a recommendation too.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6920879/1/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion_bMoscow_b_b2_b That'd be mine. For some reason, nobody's reviewed it.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7294949/2/The_Riddle_of_Steel This is an interesting one, not by me of course. Shinji reads a book about exercising or Conan the Barbarian or something, and becomes buff. This changes him, and it makes him a bit OOC. However the writing is good, and it's going to be interesting to see where the character goes in the end.
All Eva fic that I like I've been linked to from the TV Tropes page, so you could find them there. But I'll recommend a specific one just cuz.
Orchestrating the Silence. Best Asuka/Shinji post-Impact fic I've ever read, hands-down. It's just so good that you wonder what the hell the author is doing writing fan fiction, but you're glad he did.
Used to like Nobody Dies, quit when that got too silly. Mobile Fighter Evangelion was advertised as being not as silly as Nobody Dies, and I was hoping I'd like it, but then it turned out to be just as cracky as soon as the TF2 characters showed up. I quit in disgust soon afterward.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I'm actually looking for a bunch of Shinji/Rei or Shinji/Misato fanfic. Yes, one's biologically half of his mother AT LEAST and the other's banging (was banging) Kaji, but I find the pairings adorable.
It's actually really tough to find a fluffy Shinji/Misato story. I've only found one I liked, and it's on some dude's homepage.
Don't just talk about it, throw a freaking link here. The only Shinji/Misato fic on the fanfic recs page is basically a long process of the author trying to eliminate possible squick rather than trying to work with the characters he was given.

Nous restons ici.I read that one. I liked it. I thought it had good character development. Getting rid of the squickiness was just an added bonus.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone. You forgot The Lifespan Of A Love Affair, which, like most things by Random1337, is very, very fucked up but in an engaging, well-written way.
What's precedent ever done for us?I'm currently on a government-monitored laptop given to Australian teenagers for schoolwork, at 12:23 AM. And even then, I forget what the fic's called. Sorry.
I'll find it tomorrow. I think you'll like it, it's very, very adorable.

Oh gods, this thread hurts. I haven't updated my own Eva fic since June due to getting distracted by ponies. By generous estimations, I might already have finished by this point. I feel guiltier about it every day.
It is really good, and it has a shot at being my favorite fan fic ever, but some aspects of how unbalanced its portrayal of Asuka's and Shinji's problems is bug me more and more every time I read it.
I haven't really read any Eva fics extensively, but I'm pretty turned off by the fact that most of them reference other works extensively and try to be 'Crazy Awesome' Fix Fics instead of trying to tell a good story.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them."Most of them?" Not at all. Over-the-top crossover stuff and such might be attention-grabbing, but the truly best Eva fan fics are Original Flavor.

Behold: Perhaps the only "fluff" Shinji/Misato oneshot on the internet!
...Outside of AUs, anyway.
Could you elaborate? I never found a problem with it and I'm not even sure what you mean. If you're referring to the way that Asuka has to battle with her own psychological problems more than Shinji does, I feel that's pretty well-supported by canon.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I think Asuka is the more screwed up of the two as well.
But the dynamic the author constructed from that seriously bothered me. It just seemed like Shinji's own problems were basically done away with in a manner that wasn't just untrue to his character, but also sort of uninteresting, in the case of him shrugging off difficult issues too easily. (I shared Asuka's frustration whenever she didn't get the reaction from him she was hoping for.) Take the issue with her "stealing affection" from him: it seemed to be written in solely so Shinji wouldn't have to feel as bad about the whole masturbation incident. It was supposed to even the playing field between them, but only made things more imbalanced. How the author treated Asuka's nerve clips was another sticking point for me.
Their relationship seemed too based on him propping her up and I think the story could have gone deeper with the matter of what he "got in return" aside from the practical.
Don't get me wrong, I still think it did an amazing job with the characterization in general. Perhaps I'm not making any sense here. You tell me.

I understand what you mean, but I never had that complaint. The "stealing affection" thing did sort of level the playing field, but I didn't feel like that was done on purpose; it seemed to me to flow naturally and to be true to Asuka's character at that point in the story as well. And I feel like Shinji wasn't let off as easy as you're saying, more like he got through a lot of his problems sooner. You can also argue that when Asuka came back he was happy enough to have her back to be more open with her.
I don't know. You might be right. I didn't have a problem with it until you pointed it out.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I also felt that Asuka was saddled with all the blame for the fact that nothing ever came of their relationship beforehand, when in reality, Shinji certainly didn't try very hard.
I skimmed it a little; to me the narration felt too Purple-y to me; Didn't seem like Shinji would naturally be thinking that.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them. That can also be directed at Asuka; her tossing mixed signal right and left (and general abuse) give him no real reason to expect that trying will not in end in failure and pain. She is, as always, her own worst enemy.
Nous restons ici.Shinji didn't try hard? You try making friends with a narcissistic bitch like Asuka.
Yeah? So if Asuka wasn't such a bitch, she and Shinji would have gotten together and everything would have been fine and dandy between them? I don't think so.
I'm not implying she's not at fault as well. That's the point though; it should go both ways. Shinji had a relatively more approachable girl, someone who never hit him, but nothing came of that either. Asuka, at least, was making some pretty provocative gestures that someone without his crippled social skills would have picked up on and acted on.
The first chapter is some ways off from the rest stylistically, if that's what you're talking about. I wouldn't call the prose especially purple in general. If anything, it's the use of swearing in the dialogue that seems very out of place. It couldn't hurt to skim some more though.

Some fanfic where Hikari is actually relevant

Tell me what you think about my solution to this problem.

Teens dress as Batman to catch pedophiles; cops not impressedSince this is my first post in here, it's gonna be kinda scattered.
I've got Nobody Dies, Aeon Entelechy Evangelion, and And If That Don't Work? open in my browser at home to catch up on the newest chapters, I just haven't made time to read them yet.
I agree on the merits of Orchestrating the Silence, that's a really good post-3I fic.
I haven't read many Shinji/Misato fics, but Adam Kadmon's True Love Waits is a good choice, although it's very AU.
Speaking of Kadmon, IMO he's the best Eva Dark Fic author I've come across, with I Knew Him When as the crown jewel. That and Aoi are the best Eva dark fics I've read to date.

Is that so? I find him the worst.
I thought his writing was excellent when I read just one of his works and still good when I read two and three - but when I went beyond that, I realized how stupidly gratuitous the grimdark elements in his works are. His brand of "tragedy" is always so arbitrary, and often ridiculous as well. In hindsight, even the fics I liked seem meaningless.

This thread creation is long overdue. This is one of the most popular fanfic subjects, at least in TV Tropes, isn't it?
I recently picked up Mobile Fighter Evangelion, and I really liked it. Yes, another AU fic that starts from the beginning, but it's stupid, fun, and awesome. Shinji kills a landshark, with near barehand, apparently, and it is brought up quite frequently as a humorous Noodle Incident.
