Remakes I hate tend to have one scene that blows me away for whatever reason.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Hitchhiker's Guide was a remake? I thought it was just a book adaptation.

There was a tv series in the 80s, so it's also kind of a remake like Get Smart.

A ton of things from the Adjustment Bureau. That movie had the potential to be fantastic, but the horrible ending ruined it for me at least.

The car scene in Manos: The Hands of Fate. It makes everything afterwards more interesting by comparison.

"Delenda est." "Furthermore, Carthage must be destroyed." -Common Roman saying at the end of speeches.

I don't get the hate for The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. I thought it was a respectable adaptation of the book (in fact, much of the script came from earlier drafts by Douglas Adams himself). And besides, a direct adaptation of the book was never going to happen since Adams didn't like doing those.

I though it was good, too. The book is less a plot than a series of jokes with some events connecting them, so it's not really filmable. While that's arguably a very good reason not to make a film out of it, the one that they did make was fun.

The narration was what made the book so good and that is much harder to do in a film, which is mainly visual. However, Stephen Fry as the narrator was perfect. He needs to be in more films.

As a fan of the Original Series and Next Gen Star Trek movies; I wasn't blown away by the 2009 Star Trek movie.

But....the Space Jump scene made me sit straight up on the edge of my seat.

Iron Man II - Stark and Col. Rhodes vs. the Drones. Possibly, one of the top five superhero fights in movie history. It was better than either of the fights against Whiplash, which is probably why I'm not impressed with that movie.

Batman Begins - When it wasn't being all angsty and boring, it was being AWESOME. Batman using real goddamn bats to aid in rescuing a poisoined Rachel Dawes and then the Batmobile/Tumbler demonstrating why both names are applicable. Batman taking on the madness in The Narrows. His final fight with Ra's Al Guhl. And...."I never thanked you. - And never have to."

I was also deeply unimpressed with the first three X Men films (I still don't see what's so great about the first two). But Nightcrawler rescuing Kitty Pride was FUCKING epic.

[up] Heh. I wasn't impressed by the fighting in the Iron Man2 climax until Rhodey got control of the armour, it didn't get going until Whiplash turned up. But I mostly liked that film anyway.

The bit with the flaming cars in X-Men 3. And the Danger Room sequence, Pyro/Bobby scene and the Juggernaught/Kitty bit were good too.

I can think of loads of good action sequences/special effects in mostly bad movies. But I think the topic is meant to be about little nuggets of good acting and/or writing in films you wouldn't expect. I know I've seen examples but I just having trouble recalling them.

Am I a good man or a bad man?

Behold, from the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie...STEVE MARTIN!!! *applause*

I also think all of the musical moments in Magical Mystery Tour are 'mazing and mystifying, but most of the movie is majorly mediocre.

Puppet Master 2 was pretty bad but the part where the Master smashes the couple's record was awesome.

Adjustment Bureau was the best romantic comedy I have ever seen. That is not saying much, nor is it likely quite what they were aiming for, but, credit where it's due.

The scene in Igor with the makeshift presents never fails to warm this troper's heart. The fact that its tone is very different from the scenes surrounding it helps as well, but what really makes it fun to watch are Scamper and Brain's reactions; Brain thinking his gift is the envelope and still being overjoyed, Scamper getting choked up and trying to explain it away with some Gallows Humor, and when they talk Igor into finding a present to give Eva in return. While it's not the greatest scene ever, it definitely stands out from the rest of the film.

Expendables is a pretty forgettable 80s action flick throwback, but Mickey Rourke's monologue is some damn fine piece of acting, elevating standard dialogue into something pretty genuine. You almost have to see the scene twice, because when you watch it initially, Rourke's genuine performance is so an odds with the rest of the film, its almost comical.

Kirk and Picard's conversation in Star Trek Generations, which showed the potential for a much more awesome story than what we got:

Kirk: Captain of the Enterprise, huh?

Picard: That's right.

Kirk: Close to retirement?

Picard: I'm not planning on it.

Kirk: Well let me tell you something. Don't! Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

Picard: Come back with me. Help me stop Soran. Help make a difference again!

Kirk: Who am I to argue with the captain of the Enterprise? What's the name of that planet? Veridian III?

Picard: That's right.

Kirk: I take it the odds are against us and the situation is grim?

Picard: You could say that.

Kirk: You know, if Spock were here he'd say I was an irrational, illogical human for going on a mission like that. (pause) Sounds like fun!

There's this one scene in Star Trek Nemesis where Picard ponders if he could've turned out like Shinzon were circumstances different. And Data (mentioning the newly found prototype of himself) explains that Picard probably would not. It's one of the movies few and VERY far between brilliant moment, where we see how far Data's advanced since his first appearance. Coz lets face it, Season 1 Data would not teach anyone lessons about individuality and humanity.

Picard: If I had lived his life, is it possible that I would have rejected my humanity?

Data: The B-4 is physically identical to me, although his neural pathways are not as advanced. But even if they were, he would not be me.

Picard: How can you be sure?

Data: I aspire, sir, to be better than I am. B-4 does not. Nor does Shinzon.

Naw, the cool scene from Star Trek Nemesis is this....

Captain Picard: He thinks he knows what I'm going to do...(pause) MAXIMUM IMPULSE! (rams the Enterprise right down the Scimitar's throat, shocking the SHIT out of Shinzon in the process)

I suppose I don't actively dislike Revenge Of The Sith so much as I'm somewhat indifferent towards it (like all of the Star Wars prequels, really). Obviously, I was between seven and fourteen when they were all released and I thought it was terrific seeing them in the cinema, but my opinion of them has declined enormously since then.

However, there's one scene that I think is great. It's the whole sequence with Mace Windu fighting Palpatine, specifically the bit at the end, when he has him at the point of his lightsaber and says, "You are under arrest, my lord." That's great, isn't it? He's just had three other Jedi Masters killed fighting this guy, whose reveal as a Sith Lord more or less undermines everything the Jedi have stood for over since The Phantom Menace, and his first inclination is still to stick to his Jedi principles and try to arrest him.

[up][up] Yep. "He wants to look me in the eye." That was AWESOME! Shinzon's Oh, Crap! face was priceless.

I really didn't like Green Lantern, but the cheekbones line was hilarious.

He's like fire and ice and rage. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time. Rory punched him in the face.

The best thing about The Last Stand was Dante Spinotti's cinematography. He's a master when shooting on film (not so great on digital though).

Moonraker is the worst James Bond movie, but it had one great scene: Bond is trapped in a rapidly-speeding centrifuge, and is desperately trying to stop it. Rather than his life flashing before his eyes, he remembers the wrist-strapped dart launcher Q had given him in the beginning, and hurriedly uses it.
