How about some of the classic live-action sitcomes of the past couple of decades? Seinfeld, Cheers/Frasier, et cetera.
At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...
I figured I'd take my own shot at a Bleach abridged that skips over the first Arc. One gag would be that Hitsugaya would explicitly be on his first day on the job as captain and finding out the various crazy his peers are. IE, Kenpachi is Sinistar.
Huh, I had the exact opposite idea: a Bleach abridged series that would cover only the first arc; the very last scene would be Byakuya and Renji showing up and getting pissed that they don't get to do anything.
Some of the Running Gags would be:
Ichigo is Genre Savvy; everyone else is Wrong Genre Savvy. For example, in the first episode, when Rukia tells Ichigo to stab himself with her sword, he asks if that will give him superpowers. She explains that no, it will just kill him, but she wants to invoke Death by Origin Story, hoping that, when Ichigo's sister Karin sees him die, she'll awaken supernatural powers she didn't know she had, help Rukia defeat the Hollow, and the series will continue with Rukia as the main character and Karin as her sidekick. When getting stabbed actually does give Ichigo superpowers and he defeats the Hollow with no effort, Rukia realizes that he's the main character and she's the sidekick. She doesn't take it well, which leads into:
A Big "NO!" occurs in every episode. Pretty self-explanatory, really.
The Hollows would have the voices of famous cartoon characters. The two Hollows in the first episode would talk like Pinky And The Brain, the Menos Grande would sound like Mickey Mouse, the Hollow that was haunting the parakeet would sound like Sylvester, and there'd be a couple Hollows somewhere along the line who'd have bad Russian accents and say, 'We are searching for souls of moose and squirrel.'
Making a Ben 10 Abridged series on the entire franchise.
It's less that I'm too lazy (which, actually, I sort of am), and more that I don't think I'll be able to make it through Alien Force and Ultimate Alien without taking too many mean-spirited jabs at it.
If I was able to work on it, Paradox would narrate the original series Gwen 10 episode, with Ben being the only one to hear him narrating, and argue with him at several points. The episode would end differently from Gwen 10, in that it would turn out that it was All Just a Dream.

You know how Robotech was made by mashing together 3 series with similar art styles? What if you could do an abridged series like that. Take several different similar looking, but unrelated series and edit them into 1 coherent (if humorous) series.
Back in 2008, when I was heavy in the Code Geass fandom, I wanted to make an abridged series of that.

There wouldn't be a lot of material to abridge but there is so much to make fun of.
It wouldn't be a series, just one jam-packed video.

Inspired by the Blaz Blue Abridged Series that is already being made by Go Team Azure, I've wanted to take a whack at it myself. Unfortunately, I'm only funny to myself and I lack any and all equipment necessary for this task.

I think the key is to find a show that takes itself completely seriously in spite of silly or far-fetched plot elements. Pretty Little Liars is the best one I can think of, although being live action makes it a lot more difficult to work with.

Ah, another Canadian troper discovered! But yeah, that show boggles my mind in so many ways I cannot even fathom how people take that show dead seriously. Being in a home with two teenage sisters who love the show, I am well aware of the fact that the fandom sees it just as seriously as the show takes itself.
The jokes I thought of mostly revolve around changing their ringtones to songs that betray their secrets, like the girl who's sleeping with her teacher would have her ringtone be "Hot For Teacher", and the teacher in question would have his ringtone be this: http://youtu.be/jItz-uNjoZA?t=23s
