Sin Ratio! A Widget Series RP

Where do souls go after they die? Well, there's two places they can go, heaven or hell. The names are fairly descriptive, heaven is a paradise, hell is punishment. But how is it decided where they go? The answer to that question is simple. The judges:

The judges are Angels, Demons, and Youkai, supernatural creatures above humanity who have a duty to prevent souls from roaming free across the world. But just how do they judge where the souls go?

Why, with Ratios, of course. The ratio of sin to goodness is determined, and if the soul is too full of sin, it goes to be punished in hell until decided otherwise. The most evil souls stay in hell forever, while others have a sentence determined.

Whilst the Angels, Demons, and Youkai are usually good at their jobs, sometimes new blood is required... every hundred years, a set of human judges is selected. Whenever a soul that proves difficult is found, whether by attempts to escape or due to the level of sin being hard to determine, these human judges are brought in.

And a new set has just been selected.

This is an RP about determining who goes to heaven or hell using math. It's that kind of story. Well, it's not just that, we'll be taking a look at the lives of these characters, and occasionally having ridiculous fights using giant rulers or other things as swords or other weapons.

In short, it's a Widget Series RP.

As for the setting, considering Widget Series are Japanese, we've got Japan.

As for character types, we've got:

Angels: The keepers of heaven, angels are fairly stereotypical in appearance. Pretty humans with white, feathery wings, halos, that kind of stuff. They don't have any need to act angelic, though, and most of them don't. They are often associated with adding and multiplication.

Demons: The keepers of hell, it's a demon's job to make sure that the bad souls don't get out of their punishment. They're sort of what you'd expect, humans with horns, bat wings, and tails(though sometimes minus either the horns or the wings). They have no obligation to act demonic. They're often associated with subtraction and division.

Youkai: Youkai are an odd bunch. All normally remain in a human form, but they are capable of switching to a form that corresponds with the kind of youkai they are. They're considered the neutral bunch, being supernatural being who originate from earth, as opposed to heaven or hell.

Humans: I kind of doubt this needs an explanation. A set of humans, all in their teens, have been selected as judges. Along with being carefully monitered by angels, demons and youkai(which basically amounts to having angels, demons, and youkai hang out with them), they must sometimes be called in to judge or help judge a soul.

Grudges(Unplayable): Grudges are particularly bad souls who escaped judgement. They're basically balls of noncorporeal evil, and they need to be subdued and judged whenever they're found.

• Name: Noriko Fujioka
• Age: 20...appearancewise...kinda.
• Gender: Female
• Species: Angel
• Appearance: Noriko has large, white, feathery wings, a halo, all that stuff you'd expect from an angel. She has light blue, waist length hair. She wears large round glasses. She is fairly short for her apparent age and is easily mistaken for someone in their early teens.
• Personality: She's just your standard clumsy, submissive, bespectacled moeblob...well, not really. When she gets too stressed, annoyed or just really needs to unwind, the glasses come off revealing a bottle fairy who's actually a bit of a jerk. This change in personality can be rather shocking to anyone who doesn't know her very well.
• Weapons: ...I'll come up with something at some point, but I figure I should find out if the rest of the character is okay first . >.>

Name: Verex
Age: Pretty goddamn (no pun intended) old. His birth certificate was misplaced sometime around world war one
Gender: Male
Species:Demon
Appearance: A medium-height demon, red skin with two short, thorn-shaped horns on his forehead. His face is rather drawn, with sharp cheekbones, and, disconcerting as it might be, his eyes are a dirty sort of yellow. He is always dressed in a dark blue suit kept in impeccable condition, from the pinstriped tie to the skull-shaped dark gemstone cufflinks.
Personality: Verex is a bureaucrat at heart as well as profession, being responsible for hells' checkout paperwork, so to speak. His sense of humor has been missing for years inumerable, and his terse professionalism tends to extend to his off hours, making him seem cold and distanced. In all fairness, this is probably only because he is.
Weapons: Verex carries a dark leather suitcase containing a ridiculously humongous sword that by all means should not fit in there. The sword seems to be of the "sharpened metal sheet the size of a vespa"-design, with a fairly slender hand-and-a-half hilt. Along the sides of the sword, what seems to be one long, disorganized spreadsheet have been scribbled in demon script.

That's pretty much the entire point of this RP, so good to hear.

• Name: Aleana
• Age: 129 (Appears to be in her early thirties)
• Gender: Female
• Species: Angel
• Appearance: Tightly-bound black hair in a severe bun, with a blue workplace-jacket over a white shirt, and a long dark blue shirt. Looks permanently 'frazzled', and on the edge of a nervous breakdown for most of the time. Little fluttery wings a la Flonne, which she can temporarily expand to fly short distances (say, a hundred metres in calm conditions). Very faint and ink-stained halo.
• Personality: Workaholic, annoyingly punctual and stressed due to the laid-back nature of most of the people around her. Spends most of her evenings doing overtime and triple-checking the calculations. Is very sensitive to comments about her (nonexistant) figure, claiming it to be 'aerodynamic' and 'efficient'. Fundamentally a more-or-less-nice person (as you'd expect of an angel), just don't mess with her paperwork.
• Weapons: A huge-ass olden-style quill, as long as your arm, sharpened and with an in-built calculator in the feathers which can double as a... watch. Ink is more poisonous than you think, you know. (Well, not by much. I didn't say by how much more poisonous it was than you think.)

Determining... who goes to hell or heaven... using math? Can I get a fuller explanation, please?

Accepted.

Basically, it's using the titular Sin Ratios(The'yre pronounced differently in real life, more like "sign ratio" but PUUUUUUNS) to determine good or evil, along with tons of magical soul-searching stuff that will be elaborated on more during the RP. Sin Ratios are easy to look up and not terribly difficult to preform.

^ If I remember correctly, in real life they'd be referred to as Sine Ratios.

What are youkai and humans associated with, math-wise? I expected some kind of association for youkai at the least, despite being odd men out. Like, inequalities and estimation or somesuch. But that's just me, most likely, making it free to ignore. Anyway...

• Name: Karrd
• Age: Appears to be 17-ish. (Is actually rather young, being roughly the age he appears to be.)
• Gender: Male
• Species: Youkai (Rabbit)
• Appearance: Karrd appears to be a rather dashing young man, with messy ginger hair and large green eyes. His skin is lightly tanned, making him appear to spend more time outside than he really does. He is somewhat shorter than average in this form, and rather thin. His attire consists of a pair of faded jeans, black shoes that almost resemble dress shoes, a white button-up shirt with a spade and heart cufflinks, and a red vest covered with card suits. Sometimes, he also wears a red tophat with four cards in the ribbon: a jack of clubs, a queen of hearts, a king of spades, and an ace of diamonds.
  In his alternate form, his colaration undergoes a drastic change. His once-ginger hair becomes a deep red, the same color as on a playing card. On his head is a pair of rabbit ears, that are black, his rabbit tail the same color. He gets a height increase, going from approximately 5'2" to 5'10", and his musculature is visibly increased. To accompany this, his shirt is folded up to the elbow, and the top unbuttoned.
• Personality: Karrd is rather eccentric, as might be expected of a youkai. He is obsessed with probabilities and games of chance, and would use those to determine who goes where if he was allowed to. He's perfectly fine with losing, though he's rather intent on staying on the more often winning side of the probability. He's rather high-strung
• Weapons: Karrd's weapon is an odd one. He pulls a card out of his personal deck of cards, which summons one of four weapons, based on the suit of the card. This means that there's a one-in-four chance of him getting any of the four weapons. His heart-aligned weapon is a plus sign with a heart on top, which acts as a buff to either his abilities or his ally's. His spade-aligned weapon is spear with a spade on top, acting as would be expected. His diamond-aligned weapon is a diamond with an X in it, which he uses as a throwing weapon, which usually flies back to him. Finally, his club-aligned weapon is a short club, with the club symbol on top, and two floating spheres rotating around the handle.

I'm not sure if his youkai form is supposed to be animalistic or the Petting-Zoo People form I gave him.

Accepted. I'll edit this into the main post, but youkai are kind of associated with equal to, stuff like... 3+4=4+3.

And youkai forms can really be anything that makes sense with the youkai variant.

Considering we have four players, I'll probably be getting my character's bio up soon and starting the RP itself shortly afterwords.

Alright, you factoring hectopascals! Sorry for being so zetta slow with this, but I thought I'd join you tasteless tetrahedra in drowning in the sea of imaginary numbers! This is my kind of game, see, and I only allow two things... Flawless calculations... and beauty! So prepare to be iterated as I say CRUNCH! Add it to the heap! *

• Name: Princess Himeko Himehime*
  ^{(not actually a real princess)}
• Age: 18. She's pretty young for a demon, and sometimes claims to be at least ten times older to make herself seem more mature and/or important.
• Gender: Female
• Species: Demon
• Appearance: Himeko could almost pass as a human girl in her mid-teens. Well, I say "almost", but that really only applies to her body structure and height. Her horns and bat-like wings are tiny, but still large enough to be noticable, her ears are ever-so-slightly pointed and her tail is a regular pointed devil's tail. Her green eyes notably have triangular pupils, and she styles her bubblegum pink hair into twintails which reach her shoulders (when she wears her hair down, it somehow reaches to her knees. Don't ask how). Atop her rosey locks perches a tiny, golden crown. She usually dresses in an opulent ballgown the same colour as her hair, although the skirt is cut somewhat shorter than usual for such a dress, and she wears a black corset on top of it, making her bust and hips looks somewhat larger than they really are.
• Personality: An attention whore if ever there was one, and very outspoken about the things that are important to her (namely herself, people worshipping her and annoyance at people not noticing her). She's also utterly deluded and believes herself to be the princess of the demon race*

  , and demands that others treat her as such. As befitting her "royal" status, Himeko sees menial tasks beneath her, and is in fact rather lazy, delegating her workload to others whether they like it or not.
• Weapons: A pair of triangular laser pistols which look remarkably like two large set squares. Both are a rather garish bright green. The front-most edge of the pistols is bladed, allowing them to be used in close combat if needed.

• Name: Numajiri Nobuko
• Age: 16
• Gender: Female
• Species: Human
• Appearance: One of the first things to be noted about Nobuko is her sharp, very alert eyes. This is seen by some as an indicator of her personality. Nobuko isn't a particularly tall girl, though that isn't to say she's short, either. Her body is fairly slender and she's certainly not the athletic type. She has little weight in the way of muscle or fat on her. Nobuko has light features and both her eyes and her exceedingly long hair are orange. She usually keeps her hair up in a very long ponytail that reaches past her mid-back and to just above her legs. Her chest isn't particularly large or small. She commonly wears the school uniform of her high school.
• Personality: For the most part, Nobuko is friendly enough. She's liable to make a sarcastic comment or a snarky remark, but she's otherwise nice enough. However, some things set her off. Her default response to certain people is sometimes a bit violent. Idiocy on the part of these people, percieved or real, often earns them the label of idiot in her eyes.
• Weapons: None as of yet, unless you count physical abuse as a weapon.

An RP based on mathematics? There's no way I could miss this.

• Name: Tarasuki Banako
• Age: 87
• Gender: Male
• Species: Youkai
• Appearance: Banako's true form is a perfect sphere, but he can split himself apart into many spheres, which he usually chooses to assemble into a human shape. This form looks like a human male in his late twenties, with short brown hair and blue eyes. Until you look closely, that is, at which point Banako takes on an almost neo-impressionist look due to being composed of many colored spheres. Also, something about the way he moves seems somehow wrong, as though something paradoxical is occurring, and it can give ordinary humans a headache if they stare at him for too long.
• Personality: Banako is free-spirited and whimsical, usually coming across as a cloudcuckoolander. He has an odd fascination with choices, and he'll often wander around in a seemingly aimless path. Conversations with him are mostly pleasant, if confusing. Banako will sometimes split into two or more copies and carry on conversations with himself. Despite his head-in-the-clouds appearance, he does like to keep up with goings-on in the human and spirit worlds.
• Weapons: None ordinarily, but as something like a shapeshifter, he can take on the form of a weapon. He doesn't have much of an interest in fighting, though.

I won't be able to post much for a week or two, so don't expect me to show up right at the beginning; I might still be able to post occasionally.

Thanks! The whole character concept is just a terrible pun, but I figure that fits with the flavor of the RP pretty well.

Hmm, this sounds interesting, and with the Eva RP slowed to a crawl, it might be good for me to branch out into more of an open ended RP that's recently created. Although this one not being based on any established canon, I might have to think for a bit about my character. I guess I have to relate them to math, so how about either:

a) Some kind of snobbish physicist-type character who prefers applied mathematics to theoretical stuff, or

b) Coming from my baseball fandom, a character who is obsessed with sports statistics/sabermetrics.

I have no idea what class either of those characters would fall into, but maybe I could talk through it here.

Hmm, both of those could easily work, in any of the character types seeing as it's mostly preference and abilities, not personality, that's the main part of them.
