Agreed with The Brothers Flub.

Also my latest fixation is Birdz, an ultra-short-lived Saturday Morning cartoon from CBS in 1998.

Like I'm sure I've said before:

Jimmy Two Shoes, Kick Buttowski, Pearlie, Willa's Wild Life, Mona The Vampire, TUFF Puppy, Generator Rex, Captain Flamingo, Pound Puppies(2010 Edition) Gerald Mc Boing Boing(2006 edition)...

And I know I should not feel this way, but... I'm pretty damn sure these are all (examples of) cartoons everyone hates/hates ME for liking that I actually like/respect for not being overrated like Phineas And Ferb/Spongebob are (for examples of something I deeply dislike)!

They're not all excellent by any means, but when they do things right, I'm there, being entertained by them!

Unlike fucking Phineas And Ferb/Spongebob.

...FUCKING Phineas And Ferb/Spongebob...

[up]Cow and Chicken is dumb fun/hilarity at its finest IMHO.. You're not alone on feeling C&C is underrated, but I'm sure our views of what it is differ indefinitely.

Judging by the reaction it got last time I brought it up, USA Network's Street Fighter cartoon. It wasn't as good as the anime movie, but any cartoon where the villain can say "I killed my father too and you don't see me whining about it!" not to mention actually gives the villains something of a nuanced ideology and psychological makeup (as opposed to the "they're evil but they have a tragic backstory" stuff you get in shows like Batman) really deserves more love. Also gets points for being the only American cartoon I know of (besides the original Thundercats) that has a real, conclusive, no-room-left-open-for-another-season ending.

I liked I.M. Weasel much better than Cow and Chicken, actually.

It was hit and miss due to it's crudeness at times (similar to Ren and Stimpy) but it was very funny at it's highest points. I remember being in stitches throughout nearly the whole of "Chicken In The Bathroom" (I'VE GOTTA GO PEEL THE ONIONS!!!). Also the Red Guy is one of the most ingeniously deranged characters in Western Animation.

The Earthworm Jim cartoon. Loved this show, never got why it got Creator Backlash and why it got cancelled after only a year. I guess it was Too Good to Last. Real shame that Doug Ten Napel viewed it as a disaster, I was hoping it'd get revived some day.

Un-frickin-touchable.

[up] Same here. Thought it was hilarious and did well to give most of the cast a developed personality. It didn't quite have that dark abstract touch the games did but it was a good enough depiction outside the odd changes (truthfully I thought Dan Castellanta's hammy Jim was funnier than the games southern one).

Wonder exactly what element made them despise it so much.

Braceface

The only "girl cartoon" that I will ever admit to liking, unless you count PPG as one. Plus the theme song is an extreme Ear Worm.

In no particular order:

  • The Emperors New School : Manages to entertain, really.
  • Mission Hill: Oh boy, I just don't get how could other adult-oriented shows survive for so long while this died so quickly.
  • In that same vein, God The Devil And Bob was such a great concept and I liked the execution. Too Good to Last indeed.
  • Phineas And Ferb: Deserves universal acclaim yet for some reason gets equated to Sponge Bob in a very rude way.
  • Sheep In The Big City: A show that is literally made of win , yet look at its small trope page, it is so sad.
  • Mickey Mouse Club House : I was surprised to find the terrific hatedom this one has. I think that as a toddler show it is great. Introduces the interesting traits of the classic characters and it really is about solving problems rather than overloading the kids with information.
  • Pinky Elmyra And The Brain: I would have rather they didn't retool it. But I actually didn't take it so hard. It was nice to see brain out of his comfort zone. And there was this THEM society behind brain's tracks and other things that gave me the feeling that this show could have been awesome with some little tweaks.
  • 90s Iron Man, Hulk and Fantastic Four. They were not quite Spider Man or Xmen, but still fairly watchable.
  • Nada que ver, this is a latin american animated show and I think the first serious attempt to make an adult-oriented toon that was not 100% political in it. It tried a little too hard to imitate shock humor from Family Guy, but it had such good sketch ideas sometimes. There was this soup opera in which the protagonist - Princess Diana, battles for the love of Che Guevara. The evil competitor to his love was Marylin Monroe. Hitler was the Butler and Evita Peron was Che Guevara's evil mother. I am not making this up.
  • The Mask animated series.

Definitely American Dad. It's probably one of the biggest targets of Complaining About Shows You Don't Watch, simply because of the Hate Dumb surrounding Seth Mac Farlane and the fact that the family structure is similar to Family Guy, therefore it MUST be the exact same show. American Dad has its own style of humor. It's character and plot driven and there are no cutaways.

I encourage all of you Family Guy and Seth Mac Farlane haters to give American Dad a chance. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It probably helps that American Dad was co-created by two of the original Family Guy writers. A few ''King Of The Hill' writers have also worked on it.

I agree with the Sheep In The Big City and American Dad suggestions. I’m rather surprised by how much I enjoy AD, considering the pathetic excuse for Komedy I consider Family Guy to be. Just goes to show, pretty much anyone can create quality if they simply apply themselves and show actual effort.

Since it seems no one else is going to mention them, allow me to add Time Squad and Stroker And Hoop to the “underrated” list.

I don’t know that The Critic or Mission Hill are really “underrated,” considering they generally get good reviews. Mind you, they don’t have the huge audiences like FG or The Simpsons do.

I thought a lot of American Dad's 'copycat' status had dissolved by this point anyway. Either way, I agree it's probably Seth's best at this point. It feels more like it's own show compared to Cleveland Show (which genuinely does feel a bit too much like 'black Family Guy') and arguably relies the least on cheap shock value comedy (or at least handles a lot of it better). There are some bits that got deteriorated (eg. Hayley Demoted to Extra, Roger's alien quirks mostly desposed in favor of making him a Comedic Sociopath like Peter) but otherwise it's still on a high.

I would have to say Two Stupid Dogs and the 2010 Pound Puppies cartoon.
