Could it's sister trope Megane be turned into a fanspeak term or something like that? As the description says, the types are covered by Meganekko, Stoic Spectacles and Spectacled Sadist. Also, similar to Meganekko it has the risk of being used as every guy with glasses.

Actually I think Megane comes down to something more like Mature Man In Glasses a lot of the time.

It seems to be going that way. Maybe Megane should mention something about that.As for alternate names for Megnnekko how about Sweet Glasses Girl or Nice Glasses Girl to hint at personality? Although, Meganekko has almost 4000 inbounds...

Megane was supposed to be strictly a fanspeak page; I dunno when it started to accumulate examples. Most of them look like they should be on one of the other trope pages anyway.

If I'm remembering correctly, it was created because otaku didn't like "cute adorable boy with glasses" examples cluttering up their girl-only term.

So, should we move all the examples and wicks to Meganekko, Spectacled Sadist and Stoic Spectacles and keep it exampless like fanspeak pages are supposed to be? Many of the examples are already on one of the other glasses tropes anyway.

@emeriin: Actually, I think I made it myself, out of a redirect (can't remember what it was a redirect to, I think Stoic Spectacles), because megane aren't necessarily all the same type, but I definitely left it example-less. The history doesn't go back that far.

@ Emeriin, Megane and Meganekko are totally different things, as can be shown by the fact that there is a grand total of one trope applied to Meganekko and three applied to Megane. 'Megane' as itself just isn't a trope, it's just 'guy with glasses' and can be applied to various other other glasses tropes that have an opposite meaning to Cute Glasses Boy, such as Spectacled Sadist.

Then I apologize for being a rude pain. I'll transfer more wicks tomorrow when I have more time.

I made a Cute Glasses Boy redirect for Meganekko, for convenience.

I'm going to do Megane as well and prune some of the misuse for Meganekko. Could Nice Glasses Girl or Sweet Glasses Girl fit as redirects as well?

I think it should go through TRS if thats the case, just to be official.

I'll be the one to take it to the TRS if it comes to that. It has tons of inbounds though. But tons of misuse too and One Word Examples that don't tell anything about the stereotype, and I'm seeing some "examples" are really just with cold and manipulative girls with glasses instead of cute, sweet and kind of shy ones that the trope is about. I think we gotta do some kind of action to prevent the trope from further falling into "Girl X wears glasses".

[up]Yeah, Nanao from Bleach is in the freaking picture and she is so not an example. She's a Sexy Secretary with what are closer to Stoic Spectacles.

Yes, there are ones like her that absolutely do not fit, I'm also beginning to think Lisa doesn't really fit this either.

In the future TRS thread, I think we should do something like this to clean it up:

  • Remove all of the ones that fit other Glasses Tropes to those tropes.
  • Kill anything that is just girl just happens to wear glasses or is just X Just X.
  • Add said examples on the discussion pages asking anyone who knows this series to why they fit Meganekko if they want to put them back.

Of course, there is probably a better way to clean the trope up. Now,Meganekko is the Glasses tropes with the most inbounds, which is 4,039(That's only for last year now that related to pages don't go any older than the first of January) but there where tropes that had very healthy inbounds but had serious misuse problems with their wicks so had to be renamed and cleaned up.

So we don't have a trope for glasses used like that? We may need it.

Yes,I can't really see how we went without a trope about having characters wear glasses to increase sex appeal.

Maybe because so far people have been too content with lumping under Nerds Are Sexy, perhaps assuming that "glasses on a character that is not ugly" always means Hollywood Nerd, whether or not the character can qualify as a Hollywood Nerd?

Yeah, I think that may be the reason. However, Nerds Are Sexy it's beacuse of their nerdiness, and glasses tend to increase this. But, not all nerds wear glasses and not all characters who are designed to wear glasses to increse sex appeal are nerds. But there is a lot of overlap...

Then they might be Sister Tropes with a common but not guaranteed tendency to share certain elements (namely, glasses and at least Generic Cuteness, if not outright Fanservicey appearance).
