I thought they specified that Wheeler was a Brooklynite.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Linka was from "Eastern Europe". Before the fall of the communist governments she was from "the Soviet Union".
Not in the German translation....there they simply said "Russia"
The Mexican translation used "Sovietic Union" all the way through, IIRC.
I think it was specified she's Ukrainian somewhere.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsOne concept that comes up in the parodies which I would like to see played serious is captain planet or The Planetteers starting to take more extreme effort to defend to earth. It would be a good source of drama.
hashtagsarestupidThey could take a page out of DC's playbook and battle evil versions of themselves from an alternate universe and/or the future, where the Planeteers and Captain Planet have sworn to take the ultimate leap to defend the Earth from that which plagues it: to destroy mankind.
Culminating in an ideological conflict in which the Good Planeteers have to show the Evil Planeteers that humans do a lot to help the planet too, in a cheesy After School Special kind of way, ending with the Evil Planeteers agreeing to just destroy the Republicans.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Well then you can hardly them evil then could you?
Considering the fact that they have elemental powers you think that they would be able to take the us government for a little bit longer The robot chicken gave them for.
hashtagsarestupidTrying to wrap my head around dark, grittier Planeteers. (Which they will undoubtedly be.) Will we see Linka break a man's spine with her thighs?
I'm a skeptical squirrelI think a darker grittier planeteers could work as long as it never actually went grimdark and was on adult swim or toonami.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsIf they had a remake like they did with He-Man that might have been worth a watch.
I can't wait to see Ma-Ti Psychically push someone into killing themselves. Bonus points if he makes then ring their family up first.
hashtagsarestupidWhat does he actually do? Can he make people's hearts burst?
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. He can mind control tigers.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsHonestly, all joking aside, some of the darker episodes of Captain Planet would pretty much adapt itself. Such as the one where Scumm gives out drugs and kills Linka's cousin. Or when Gi gets pissed and they had to talk her out of killing someone.
Also, Ma-Ti's power is capable of full blown mind control, as shown in an episode which has an alternate timeline. His solution for one area was just to mind control everybody into doing what he wanted. The reason he was given the power of Heart was because he was unlikely to abuse it's full potential.
Another note, Captain Planet is not meant to be called to just solve everything. In fact, again, in another episode which has this whole Bad Future (and turns out to be a bad dream of Wheeler's), that's brought up when they get lazy and let things get destroyed. There were actual reasons for varying things people bring up in the show.

Improving as an author, one video at a time.Wasn't there a couple of episodes where they never need to summon Captain Planet at all?
It's possible, but I cannot say for sure. Usually when they do call Captain Planet, he's more being their muscle.
On a side note, when you remove the camp factor, can find legit serious elements of drama & character in the actual show.
For instance, Ma Ti is an orphan whose parents were murdered when trying to protect their village from land developers. His mother was native to the lands, his father not, which lead to plenty of issues there when trying to resolve the situation. It's part of the reason he's empathetic to trying to be compassionate to all people and way he is at present with preferring to avoid conflict.
Wheeler had his own tough upbringing and an abusive, alcoholic father. He tended to spend his nights away from home and he's mother is more passive, quiet type due to the whole situation.
Or there is whole episode where Kwame quits being a planeteer since he feels it's ultimately pointless and they're never going to achieve anything. Can name plenty others.
Really, campiness aside, the show had plenty potential there already in the source material.
Edit: And damn, someone beat me to the Mega Mackdaddy thing. I was just about to add that on for campiness.

Improving as an author, one video at a time. So, how long before this thing goes into Development Hell and we forget about it?
Weird in a Can (updated M-F)Is it true that Ma-Ti once elbowed Adolf Hitler to the ground?
Honestly, I remember last year or so ago catching some reruns of the show and finding them (for the most part) to be not even nearly as cheesy or bad as everyone claims. (Though the Cap's puns are still awful.)
I did really like the show as a kid, but, then, I also don't think I ever really paid attention to it as a kid.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. Not that I remember. Hitler got away in the episode he appeared in, obviously. They were time traveling and the villain of the episode was trying to sell nukes (I think it was nukes) to Hitler. The hate behind Hitler's Death Glare WAS so great that he harmed Captain Planet by just looking at him though.
Yeah, it was nukes! Because aside from the Captain Planet's pun about fallout when getting rid of the nuke, after they time traveled back to present, they accidentally left behind the plans for the nukes and the Americans found it.

Improving as an author, one video at a time. Why did they give Hitler Moe Howard's hair and Hulk Hogan's mustache? Did they really think that teaching kids about Nazis was okay if they didn't tell them their boss's name?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatThat seems to be the idea in such shows, yes, you change just enough of the iconography that people don't immediately recognize it, even if the Nazi regime is the whole thrust of the plot.
I don't think they ever specified from where Gee exactly came from...at least not in the intro. Somewhere close to the ocean, but that is not very specific. For that matter, they weren't specific about any of them, only Wheeler was clearly from New York. And it was a little bit funny that Linka was from "Russia" and not from "Europe"...
