...got a summary of what happened?
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."EA is making some sort of online thingy to compete with Steam.
That only sells EA games.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIThat's not the whole story. The controversy really started when Crysis 2 vanished from Steam's store shelf* , but it remained on Direct 2 Drive and Gamersgate although Crysis 2 had the "Only on Origin" sticker on the Origin store page. The sticker has been since removed.

I now go by Graf von Tirol. So, EA will sell only EA games, and Steam will sell just about everything else. Right?
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Yep.
GEE I WONDER HOW IT'LL TURN OUT
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIPoorly. PC versions of EA games tend to be risky investments already.
Plus, Steam also distributes Indie titles, which expands the selection quite a bit.

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelMonkeys overthrow their human oppressors and take over the world?
"The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your world. You gotta push your horizons out as far as they'll go."I have a feeling in a few months time the EA distributing thing will quietly disappear and we'll see EA games back on Steam.

Blurb about it, but it's not very long.
WHAAAAAAA STEAM OWNS THE WHOLE MARKET BAAAWWWWWWWWW
Pfft, whatever. If Steam charges for it, I certainly don't see it.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Sounds good, except for one small problem: EA usually shafts the PC market (Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit DLC unavailability for PC, anyone?), and the thought of EA actually putting effort into the PC market is laughable.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelThey did the same thing with (the ironically named) Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box.

oh, that's why I need this binary mind // ⌘Yeah, this will probably be a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown in retail terms. Last i checked people are getting tired of signing up for twenty different services to run all their games. Not to mention Steam is so firmly entrenched... And can Origin games offer me a free Team Fortress Two hat? Huh? Can they?
Valve having a monopoly so far hasn't been a bad thing. We are still getting crazy deals, if the summer sale is anything to go by.
Origin will fail and fade away, and then EA games will sheepishly slither back onto steam. The equilibrium will be restored. No content delivery service that has five highlights under "Controversies" that last for a third of its wiki page can last long.

Bleye knows Sabers.Rocket Dude: Well there is The Sims, which is, by consensus, much better on PC than consoles, but not much else, I'll give you that.
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.Capitalism, ladies and gentlemen. Now you've got to jump through a bunch of bullshit hoops so that EA can get more money. Boom! Success.
yeyControversy? Where is that page? DO WANT JUICY TIDBITS
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold. It's under "Criticism" on this page.
Also, you gotta love this tidbit from another article:

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelSadly, it isn't hard to compete with Steam, just offer lower prices all year (DD has much less cost for the producer, pass that along) and no DRM, but EA is too stupid to figure out how.
No DRM and lower prices for a PC game? From EA?
Deuxhero, no offense, but that's a bit daft.

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelIf you're going to fantasize about things that simply aren't ever going to fucking happen, why not go for the really good stuff like world peace, free electricity, or McDonalds serving food that actually qualifies as edible?
^No, see, we want more of what Valve has got going on with Steam and less of what EA's already tried.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelYeah, EA is last company I see lowering prices and removing DRM o-o
And they will fail for that reason.
Here's a solution (that EA will never read):
Simply have EA Online so that it links with Steam, PSN and LIVE accounts and does nothing more (instead of trying to work it into a DRM method) except keep scores (including Autolog ones) for bragging rights and just use the DRM of Steam or whatever download service is being used for the copy protection.

I'm quite surprised there hasn't been a thread for this yet...
Just wondering if either company has said or done anything in regards to the whole "Origin and Crysis 2" controversy lately...
Although I did hear that a report did claim that the upcoming Battlefield 3 is confirmed to not be released via Steam.
