I don't know. The part of New Jersey I was in when I was there was full of grave yards surrounded by barbed wire.
Because of this, I can only guess that it's considered awful because of the rampant zombie population.

Jersey Zombie: Looook aaaat my taaaaaaaaaan...
I find zombies can make even the nicest of places disagreeable. Really is a shame.
I've only been to the nice parts of New Jersey, so I only learnt about the stereotypes much later.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Back in college, I enjoyed mocking all the people I knew from New Jersey and Long Island, but merely because of the stereotypes, and they knew I was joking.
The name "New Jersey" just sounds funny. Also, many people from New Jersey/New Joisay have accents that other people find amusing.
Never be without a Hat! Hot means heat. I don't care if your usage dates to 1300, it's my word, not yours. My Pm box is open.Old Jersey isn't that much good either, unless you want tax-free goods.
Apart from the fact Amazon Europe has a base there, it serves no purpose.
I don't really understand the stereotype people have for NJ. I live there, and no person that I ever knew were guidos, or were super tan, or had that crazy accent.
"I have to kill fast and bullets too slow!"-John FreemanJersey Shore and Snookie is the source of some of the opinions. IE not that great.
Who watches the watchmen?Them and their type are the entire source. they're part of that asshole minority that makes us all look bad. None of them are from New Jersey, and some of the aren't even Italian.
They're all on my "wouldn't mind if they died" list.
I'm baaaaaaackA lot of it is because of New York. Jersey is the kid brother that we show affection for by kicking around a little while teasing it about all the embarrassing things that only the big brother knows about.
Then you get all the things that appear in media, mostly due to either people who have left Jersey or New Yorkers: the soulless, stifling suburbia, guido culture, (even though it only exists in a tiny area and is massively exaggerated in the media) the pollution, the cities that are either Detroit-lite or on the same level of Detroit, (if you want some stories you'll have fun telling for the rest of your life, spend a couple of days living in or on the outskirts of Camden) and some of the nice areas are filled with Mafia influence and and spoiled kids.
And just think, all or most of this would probably fly under the radar if not for the fact that the locals and their neighbors have shoved all of the true stuff and all the stereotypes into popular culture because of their love-hate relationship with the State.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |New Jersey = South New York
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianThen you clearly don't live in central Jersey.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. What about East Philidelphia?
Philly is also South New York.
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianI live there. Sad to say, there are some. not many, but some. They're all dicks and I hate a good half of them.
I'm baaaaaaackIt all started with Atlantic City. Back when the opened the casinos, AC was the only part of NJ anyone from the outside was familiar with.

Wait, so are you Monmouth County? (We can take this to the PMs if you're not comfortable putting your location out there.)
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I'm on the troper map, i'm fine with it. I'm in middle sex county.
I'm baaaaaaackHuh, it's very likely we don't live too far from each other. *goes off to double check on the troper map*
EDIT: Wow, yeah, I think I'm literally a half hour away from there at most.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Cool.
It's kinda the middle of no where. we're within driving range of a lot of stuff, but nothing you can walk to. It kinda sucks.
I'm baaaaaaackDon't feel bad—the closest real landmarks I have are the elementary school I went to in 4-6th grade and an Exxon station. Oh, and being 10 minutes from the Freehold Mall when I'm home is nice too. (When I'm at school, though, I'm 5 minutes from the Monmouth Mall ) I added myself to the map now, if you're curious.
Pretty much driving is the default for NJ suburbia. There's really few places you can walk to, and the places you CAN walk to...well, good luck crossing Route 9 to get there.
