For my magical boyfriend series"Habari gani Kitsune" I was thinking maybe I should add not only different magical creatures from multiple mythologies around the world but add in some scifi elements such as robots, genetic engineering, and even some aliens.I was thinking to have my two main characters find and befriend a girl cyborg named Galeata who was trained from birth to be a living weapon. The main characters are Joyann an African American girl who weilds a bat made from a special metal that has mystical powers;hurt all mystical creatures regardless of orgin, fling anything even fire balls and lighting back, and can do major body damage. For the main male lead he would be a Japanese boy is really a kitsune and can do powerful illustions. His kitsune form would be a petting zoo fox.

What I was thinking is if you had a story what kind of fantasy and sci fi elements would you put in it.I was asking others what kind of stuff would they include in their stories if they had a fantasy kitchen sink.

I only use pure magic or magitech in my stories. The only Sci-fi I put into a story are Victorian Steampunk... I might like watching Star Trek and SG-1, but writing "real" Sci-fi...

Many cultures share similar mythological creatures. FantasticFoxes for example... They might not agree on all details, but who cares? Not you, you are the authour, you decide!!! Mix them into one creature:

The Skogs-rĂ¥, the Fox-tailed seductress of Sweden, The Inuit Fox-women, The Kitsune and its cousins the Gumhio and Huli Jing are only a few examples. In allmost all cultures are the fox a trixter wo loves messing with others.

What I mean is: If there is similar creatures in sereval cultures, merge them... Let all those magic foxes be kitsune, let the selkies, nixies and merrows be known as meremaids. (Let them keep those names as their local names. Western magic fox names for western foxes for examples...)

(I have about a dozen kitsunes in my stories, only one are japaneese, the rest are European...)

Yeah, that's why I wanted to make my story in America because this country is such a melting pot that if mystical creatures did exist they would come along with every immigrant group that comes in.Yeah,I was thinking of making the shifter forms into petting zoo animals to appeal to the furry crowd.Yeah,I was also thinking that all the mystical creatures might have different weaknesses but it they share one universal weakness in the form of a mystical metal that can harm them all regardless of strength or power.I am also thinking that all mystical creatures should be mortal like humans and have the same average life span. The explanation for the tales of long life spans in myths is because they are exaggerations. For the sci-fi stuff I am thinking about a secret organization that hunts down magical creatures with cyborgs who have been trained from birth to be the best. All of the soldiers were turned into cyborgs on the day the were born. Yeah, what also would be a good idea that there would be a certain neighborhoods and even towns where mystical creatures would recide.I was also thinking maybe there should special items that make certain non-shifting creatures into humans.

The selkies have their seal-skins that they need to transform into seals, the merrows need their red hats to turn into merefolk-form. Scandinavian werewolves are according to some normal guys transforming by either wearing an magical belt made of wolf skin, or a magical wolf-skin. The kitsunes is said to sometimes store their magic in a jewel...

Many creatures have something that could work as an TransformationTrinket for humans, if not look at what they are famous for and use your imagination...

I was thinking that maybe for my Fantasy Kitchen Sink that those items turn them human instead of the other way around.I was also changing my kitsune charater from a illusion maker to a fire maker and manipulater so he can be a more offensive character.I was thinking that Japanese kitsunes can shapeshift into a human form and only one main power:illusions, fire generation, lightning generation, flight, possession, and rarely reality manipulation.I am planning of introducing fairies but some they will have wings that they are able to hide and make different races.Just like the human race, the magical creatures have different variations.

Sounds good...

Just one thing the cyborgs? If they get their implants when born, well fitting gizmos sized for an adult into a baby could be tricky to say the least.

A hint: Make the word Youkai synonymous with the European Fae, since both are a group of widely different magical creatures, both having BlueAndOrangeMorality... One can be the Eastern word, the other the Western.

Is the TransformationTrinket permanently transforming the creature? Say if the creature in human form lose it, will he turn back to a creature, or do he stay human?

If the the creature loses it will turn back into their original form.Yeah,I am thinking of making the Japanese Yokai synomous with the European Fae.I am thinking the Yokai are like monsters. Also for the cyborgs I think they turn them into cyborgs at birth then upgrade them as they get older until they hit their teen years.I am thinking the cyborg project was created to combat the threat that could come from mystical creatures.I am thinking the organization should be called Prometheus becaue they believe they stand up for humanity in the essence of dangerous creature.I plan that they take babies from orphanages and adoption agencies because if they stole them from hospitals then the police would get involved.

I have plans they are an organization that has been around since the 1980's and its kinda of a Richard Reed is useless situation because they hide all this technology.I think the main woman behind the progam is a super genius who encountered mystical creatures and vowed revenge after an encounter left her without a leg.She is very determined to see all mystical creatures eradicated and can be a knight templar.I also think cyborgs roam everyday life in order to find mystical creatures in hiding. This is where my character Galeata comes in she penetrates the school Joyann and Ken(kitsune character) are and befriends them while questioning if all she has been taught about mystical creatures is wrong.

Where in the US do the story take place? Galatea's name come from Greek mythology, right?

How do The girl and the Kitsune meet?

How do magical creatures view humans?

This story takes place in the Silicon Vally which is around San Jose,California which has a large diverse group of people which would be good for a setting where mystical creatures around the world can potentially meet. What I was thinking is that Joyann and Ken meet each other at school and for both of them its their first day so they stick together since they don't know anyone there.I think the way she would suspect something is strange about is when she sees his shadow and it is in the form of a fox. Then later he transform into his kitsune form but is caught by Joyann who thinks its weird but awesome.I think some magical creatures have different opinions on humans;some like humans, others think their flawed, some think they are bastards to th core, and there a few that think mystical creatures are superior and that humans must become slaves/exterminated.I am thinking of creating an anti-human group that could even butt heads with Prometheus and may have the leaders be the one who cut off the Prometheus's leader's leg.I think the name for the anti-human group should be the Superiors.Galatea comes from the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea,it was about a sculptor who made a statue of a beautiful woman and fell in love with it.Aphrodite then turned the statue into a real woman so Pygmalion could be with the one he loved.

I agree on that you should have both good and nice magical creatures. The name for the bad guys sounds wrong, though. It sounds to simple. I suggest the human-haters should call themself the Court. This to tie in with the fact that hey see them selves as superiors and the fact that the fairies sometimes are colectively known as a court or divided into two courts, one evil (the Unselie court) and one good (the Selie court).

Any other magical creatures that show up?

I was thinking of bringing in some West African based folklore like Anasi the spider or at least a descendent of him.I also might think of adding vampires but these vampires won't be undead but supernatural creatures.Vampires mostly of European orgin are bloodsuckers but they drink the blood of animals mostly.I was thinking that it is taboo for vampires to drink human blood because even though they it can make them grow strongers but it is at the cost of darkening their souls and making them weak to and crosses or being staked in the heart.Non-human blood drinkers are weak to garlic, silver, and tend to be weakened in the sunlight.Their powers are strength, speed, transforming into dogs and bats, and having bat and dog petting zoo animal forms. For the mermaids I think they would have jewels that can let them walk on land.I am also thinking of adding some orcs, ogres, trolls, and oni into the story as well.I am thinking about looking into some Native American folklore and find some mystical beings.I think some Native American mystical beings would be less found of some of the European mystical beings because they took their lands like the European settlers.

Nice with different weaknesses for different diets... smile I would however suggest that "vegetarians" are weaker to garlic and stakes (weaker immune system, so a strong alergic reaction and weaker flesh and bones the stake can pass through easier), while "cannibals" have a weakness to the sun and crosses (good and/or religious stuff). Silver could be a generic weakness.

Don't forget the ability to turn into mist...

For the onis, ogres, trolls, and orcs.I think there would be a mix of good and bad.I think Ken will recognize the onis and say its their version of ogres.I think the onis and ogres & orcs are very tight together because of their similarities.I think onis, ogres, trolls, and ogres don't eat people these days because they won't be above the stereotype and believe no harmony will come from eating humans. These groups are warrior based but through the years they have become fans of sports; their favorite ones are football, baseball, and hockey.Since San Jose has a large Indian and Middle Eastern community,I think I will put genies and nagas in.The genies would be a mix of the hollywood kind and the more traditional kind. The nagas would be mostly good and tend to be vegetarians because they tend to be Hindu.

Any odd behavior from monsters, like forthe Kitsune, like a extreme fear of dogs and dogs hate them?

I tought of a thing, he might lose control of his human shape and become a fox if he get drunk. Not good if you are at a party...

The thing is I am making this aimed at kids so I can't have him go drunk. But I can make him go crazy over tofu which is said to be the favorite food of kitsunes.I think he would try to find ways to keep people from noticing that he has a fox shadow.I am also thinking of giving him a pet tsuchinoko which is a wide bodied snake like creature and he tends to carry it around.I also want it so that kitsunes first split their tails in two at the age of sixteen and when they turn fifty it finally splits into nine.I also thinking that they encounter a kappa and Joyann is told by Ken to bow so it can bow in return so the water can fall out.

I think Ken is kinda of the nerdy, cute otaku boy and doesn't really get invited to parties. If you are wondering,I am going to make this into a western animated show but it will borrow shonen story elements mostly of the magical girlfriend genre(or in this case magical boyfriend).I believe he would have his fire power even in human form but sometimes if he's pushed over a limit he will use them.I think a fun recurring villian could be a Edward expy named Edgar who is one of the cannabilistic vampires and trys to seduce Joyann but instead of being interested in him, Joyann blows him off.He then goes after Ken because if he kills him then he can have Joyann all to himself. But Joyann has her bat made of the mystical metal I was talking about and pummels the cannibal vampire to kingdom come.

I would have the vampire be Romanian, looking and behaving like a mix of Bela Lugosi's Dracula and Edward. The name should be something from the Balkans.

In other words, a ClassicalMovieVampire trying to be young and sexy... ...and failing horribly. I view him as Noble Demon.

Besides, I have an idea for the baseball bat your hero use to beat the crap out of that vampire bat...

The Viking god Thor had two weapons, Mjolnir the hammer and a metal bar. Thor was the friend of the humans and the enemy of the monsters, so maybe the bat that hurt supernaturals is infact that metal bar. (It is never described that well, so it could be shaped as a "weapon" like bat and not just as any ordinary metal bar...)

For this vampire I want him to be a straight up sleazy vampire version of Gaston. But I will introduce more friendy non-canabalistic vampires later in the story. Yeah, that will be a good idea maybe that bat was melted from the metal rod.I am putting in this a Judeo-Christian world so there won't be any other gods or goddesses.I'll just say that most of those so called gods and goddesses were supernatural creatures who put on a masquerade as being deities. I also think that mixed marriages between humans and supernatural creatures are not unheard of but it is frowned upon and this will be a challenge in Ken and Joyann's relationship.

There are in the medieval Gesta Danorum by Saxo Gramaticus a story that claims that Odin and the other Norse gods was nothing else than human wizards claiming to be gods...

Well, they could be wizards if they exist in your universe, or what he calls wizards could simply be misidentified Fae...

I agree with you that I would not put it below the Fae to pose as gods. Some because they see the humans as foolish children that should be guided and helped, other that see the humans as stupid idiots who one should take advantage of in every possible way...

I got an other Idea, if the bat belonged to Thor and it got it's anti-monster powers from him and his illogical hatred for monsters. Thor could either have been a human monster-hunter or a supernatural creature rebelling against his own kind. (He could perhaps even have started a organization of viking monster-slayers...)

I was thinking of not putting ghosts and have all beings with spirit immediatly go to the afterlife.I also think that monsters and demons are different creatures but monsters are mistaken by humans for demons. I have the orgin story that supernatural creatures where created after the flood that devored the earth.A lot of supernatural creatures either still believe this happened or it has been so long that they deny it.For a lot of supernatural creatures deem themselves superior to humans and find it offensive. Yeah, maybe Thor was a Fae that masqueraded as a god to fool humans and killed other supernatural beings to show his strength. I was thinking that maybe Joyann,Ken,and Galatea participate in a tournetment for supernatural creatures.I think this tournetment brings creatures around the world to test their strength and win a large amount of money. Why Galatea is here is because later I will have her make a heel face turn and have her be adopted into Ken's family.
