I have no problem with making a supertrope of Significant Eye Color. It would be mostly an index to the subtropes, and might cut down on the number of misuses of the varying eyecolor subtropes to have them all listed on a single page we can point to and say "Here. Put it on the one that it's correct for."

Hm...what would that trope's relation be to what's going on with Color-Coded for Your Convenience? I'll admit I'm not following that thread as closely as I should.

Subtrope. It's a type of color-coding that has specific, well-defined variants of its own.

I think having Significant Eye Colours and redirecting Common Eye Colours there might help things. It emphasizes tropieness. I also think that being able to have things listed on the pages like people commenting on pretty eyes are "What Beautiful Eyes!" would help cut down on misuse.

That one needs clean up for In-Universe use and not just fan gushing though.

Ok, so are we set to create a (super)trope Significant Eye Colour (or -s), and possibly merging Common Eye Colors and/or Window To The Soul into it?

Common Eye Colours is just an index and Windows To The Soul isn't much of anything. It can probably just be cut.

Is there any particular connotation to gold eyes, specifically, that differentiates them from any other unusual eye color used to indicate...uh...supernaturalness, or whatever you call it? If we could merge in purple and silver and whatnot, we might cut down on misuse.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Purple doesn't represent the supernatural for one thing. It represents the character being special or important because it's so very rare in real life.

Gold is supernatural normally of the feral variety.

Grey/Silver eyes aren't so much supernatural as they represent seers or people with great wisdom.

There's not much crossover there.

Does it matter that yellow eyes also exist in real life (according to Wikipedia) ?

In humans, gold or yellow eyes are vanishingly rare. An author describing a characters eyes as gold or yellow generally intends to convey something about that character; most usually that they either have some sort of supernatural connotation or that they are animalistic in some way.

In animals, particularly predators, they are rather common and natural and don't generally mean anything.

This is basically confusing to me when it comes to removals.

[up]How are the removals confusing to you? Can you elaborate?

Anyway I fixed the Red Eyes disambiguation, which claimed that Red Eyes, Take Warning was "red eyes in general". I've cleaned What Beautiful Eyes! and Red Eyes, Take Warning, and they are both on my watchlist. I'm not sure I did a thorough job on the latter, though. So, can someone check?

After Eyes of Gold gets renamed, are we also going to rename Purple Eyes as well?

Yes. After all it's in no way different then Blue Eyes except maybe for having less tropes associated with it.

Actually, Purple Eyes is one distinct trope. Purple Eyes mean a character is special or unique. The name should reflect this.

Calling Eyes of Gold 13 to 0 for a rename.

Proposed name looks good, thread needs renaming too. I think that Purple Eyes will need renaming so that it's not just about purple eyes.

By the way, are we set into creating Eye Colour Change and Significant Eye Colour?

I'll YKTTW for Eye Colour Change. I really think Kaleidoscope Eyes should be Mood Ring Eyes. That will help with the confusion there. The eye things really are a mess, but we'll get to that after purple eyes.

Kaleidoscope Eyes, for the record. I agree with the redirect swap.

All right, Grey Eyes have two tropes. One is the steely determined trope. That one needs a run through YKTTW.

The other is a sister trope to Prophet Eyes. Seers if they don't have cataracts, tend to have very light coloured normally grey eyes.

The name Prophet Eyes sounds like it's about eyes possessed by seers. Instead it's just any eyes that are cataracted over and it starts talking about zombies. Why are these tropes such a mess?

Ok, Prophet Eyes needs to be about eyes that prophets and seers have. This is either cataracts and pale grey or blue eyes.

We need Milky Undead Eyes for the trope of undead monsters having creepy milky eyes.

And we need Blind Eyes for the forms of blind eyes which are milky white, staring into space, or covered with sunglasses.

I'm gonna take Milky Undead Eyes to the YKTTW whenever I can. I'll also take Normal Brown Eyes there as well.

Thanks, Oreochan. I don't think Prophet Eyes needs a YKTTW. I think we can just merge the examples from grey eyes and clean up it's current examples.
