Speaking of Sticker Star, the latest issue of Nintendo Power has a feature on it. Jump to the 19:43 mark.
It seems that Bowser still looks the same as he did in TTYD and SPM.

Eh.@Hydronix: No, there weren't that many platforming segments in Paper Mario and TTYD. They just popped up occasionally, while Super Paper Mario had it as the main aspect.
Uh no, not really. Maybe you should look in some non-Nintendo related threads.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! The main style of movement was no different from a platformer, though. Most typical rpg's don't allow you to jump, for starters. Outside of maybe a special ability. It still had the platformer elements, in and outside of battle. It just got reversed for one game, that's all. Still the same series, just slightly different between two styles, nothing more.

Quest 64 thread@ Mr Yoshbert Does his back slouch?
Because in TTYD it did while in SPM he stands straight.
Well, technically, it could be considered an Action RPG.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows. That too.
Anyway, I haven't read much about Star Sticker, or whatever.(I haven't memorized Paper Mario 3DS' name yet) How do the stickers work? Are they essentially "Badges"?
Quest 64 threadThe stickers are essentially the "cards" in the card battle system. You either find them in the field, or buy them. Mario no longer levels up. Exp/star points are a thing of the past. Battles win you coins to get more stickers. Stickers can enable Mario to attack, or to summon a partner of sorts to help you in battle.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!...So it's a different kind of rpg, Card Battle. Hmm. Well, I already payed it off, but I hope I'll enjoy it. Doesn't sound promising, imo.
Quest 64 threadAre the stickers single-use only?
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Seems like it.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!So that means there'll be a case of Too Awesome to Use in the case of one-of-a-kind stickers. It annoys me when that happens, especially when I happen to be on low health in RPGs.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.
It would stop neglecting half the Mario cast and would be a nice change from this repetitive Save the Princess stuff.
So Nintendo changes the games that don't need changing and doesn't change the games that need changing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyM"Need changing" is a shaky concept. Change is innovative and should be welcomed if well done, and I dislike the idea of writing off an idea like Sticker Star, simply because of the vague idea that the series doesn't "need" to be changed.
Creativity is rarely "needed," but it does tend to create things that are good eventually.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Huh... Sticker Star so far reminds me of Mega Man Battle Network / Mega Man Star Force and Kingdom Hearts Chain Of Memories, concerning the "card"-like battle system, which is never a bad thing in my book. ^^ That "one-use only"-thing could be a nuisance... but let's wait and see how that ultimately turns out, but so far, I'm pretty positive about this one. :)
I think that's a generalization. Even I'll admit that the NSMB series could use some new ideas, but it really doesn't "need" it. 2D Mario platformers are just awesome regardless, and I still think NSMB 2 is an excellent game.
As for Paper Mario, I guess it's subjective whether or not the gameplay changes are working out well, but Sticker Star actually sounds pretty interesting to me so far.

I guess that if they want a 2D Mario with new ideas, they can always go to Intelligent Systems for results.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I'm just excited about them doing another SMW-style world map. That's good enough for me for now.

Same here. I just hope that it requires as much exploration as SMW in order to find all the exits.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I don't think "card battle game" is a very apt comparison. A big part of deck building is setting up your deck so you have a good chance of drawing a viable combination of cards no matter what. It looks like you are free to select any sticker you have in your inventory, so that's not really the case.
I guess you can think of it as a sort of a meta card game, where the world is your deck you draw cards from and the sticker book is a very large hand.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianWell... Sticker Star so far looks... different. Not bad, but different. Then again, so was SPM, and I ended up loving the shit out of that game.

Eh.The intro seems like the intro of Super Mario Galaxy.
And it seems that the writing will be as good as ever, which will be great.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. The synopsis sounds like the original Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy had a weird baby. Really interested in how the game itself turns out.
I think Intelligent Systems deserves another shot at making a Mario platformer with story. They don't even have to use the Paper Mario style.

When an RPG series makes a game by adding slightly different elements, it doesn't stop being an RPG.
Super Paper Mario is still an RPG, just more platform-focused. The only things that changed was their was no "Defense", the Badges are gone(which the Pixels replace), and the battle system changed. It didn't change heavily as much as others. It still keeps its rpg style. Still has perfect timing.
And I've had to play those to know. BTW, those do have some RPG Elements, and may be part rpg. Dissidia is part rpg, but so is Sonic Battle. And Flying Dragon(which has an RPG mode specifically). There is such a thing as being two genres at once, of course.
But when you get experience to level up in an RPG Series in general... yeah, sorry, don't see how it "stops" being one. Paper Mario was always a platformer in general, just more focused on the RPG parts. Super Paper Mario just switched it, that's all.
