Sorry for being late to this thread, but given some of the discussion about Drop What You Are Doing being a Stock Phrase title, I think it is probably fair to make a rename crowner. That being the case, there is now one of those here. Feel free to tell me if you think making that was a bit premature.

There seems to be a lot of overlap between this and Slow-Motion Drop and/or Dramatic Shattering. Maybe some sort of recombination would be in order?
Note that Slow-Motion Drop is medium-specific. It can only happen in a medium where it's possible to have slow-mo, so it only really happens in animation or live-action film; it's also not necessarily caused by Drop What You Are Doing, since there are other reasons why they might drop something in slow-mo—He's Dead, Jim is a common one. And Dramatic Shattering is a supertrope that covers things like smashing through windows.

Rhymes with "Protracted."I don't mind renaming it, but what are the contenders for the new trope name?
We don't have to be mean. Remember - no matter where you go, there you are. —Buckaroo BanzaiEeeeeeeeh, I've seen books try to invoke Slow-Motion Drop. It's a really common thing where time slows down for the POV character.
Fight smart, not fair. But that might be more on the lines of Bullet Time?
It generally only happens when it's dramatic though.
Fight smart, not fair.Calling in favour of rename.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThere is now an alternative titles crowner for this trope here. Feel free to add names as you see fit.

I thumped the old name suggestion since we are NOT supposed to use the old name in an Alt Titles Crowner.

somethingCalling crowner.
I didn't write any of that. There was consensus to swap the name with the redirect. Please follow through.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
It's not always shocking news, though.
People can drop things because someone grabbed them, or they fainted. So across all those examples, people are literally dropping what they were doing at the moment of the shock/grab/faint/sickness/trouble etc.
