Many millennia in the future, on a distant planet, some aliens discover that not only is Norse mythology real, but that Ragnarök has started on Earth.
"I've ran out of Irn Bru."
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerIrn Bru is the one weakness of the aliens our heroes have been fighting, lacking it heralds the Darkest Hour of humanity.
"Good morning, Lucifer!"
SKREEEEEEEONK!To this point it looked like the series was just an office comedy, until it's now revealed to be something of a retelling of Dante's Inferno prior to Lucifer's fall set in one. Maybe? The parallels are eerie, and the audience can't tell if the one called Lucifer is indeed the future Satan about to fall, or if he did and the office is Hell, or if he's going to do something different and go "off-script".
"I have raincheck for this game."
My brain read this in a Slavic accent so
The Russian mobster the hero has been trying to evade the entire work finally appears in the flesh, having attended the poker game the hero is at.
"Drop the phone!"
The hero and their allies are hunting for the bombs placed by the villain. When they think they've found it, they go to call the cops, only for their friend to realize that the phone itself is the bomb. And it's about to explode.
"We're expecting rain tomorrow."
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Purenessin a world so deep in climate change that any rainy weather is actually a class 5 Hurricane that makes Katrina look like the average monsoon. A group of people were left stranded in a place where they cannot reach shelter for the coming flood.
"I invoke the dread incantation of the Anemoi. The winds shall carry away this cursed city!"
In a World… where Egyptian Mythology is demonstrably real, our heroes had assumed that the Egyptians were right and everyone else was wrong, and that defeating Apophis and Set would be the end of their problems. The arrival of the Anemoi shows that the mayhem is only just beginning.
“Now then… how about we get this thing started?”

SKREEEEEEEONK!Famous last words from a scientist with the hand on a lever to a device that either will have solved the world's energy-crisis or rip all of reality's fabric as we know it to shreds and stitch it back together, 90% of the scraps and pieces definitely not being a part of it before he pulled the lever.
...
Want to know why I haven't crumbled to dust like all the others around here? Simple. I boiled all my drinking water.
The characters enter what seems to be a window into another world... a world where fire hasn't been discovered yet, so technology and culture is very different. At least, that's what it seems like, what with how everyone is acting. Then they meet the one character who hasn't gotten sick from the plague, and when he drops this line, they realize they've gotten it very wrong about where they are...
It wasn't a boulder. It was a rock.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThe protagonist has become trapped in an illusory world that traps her mind within a cycle of experiencing her own deaths, over and over again. However, when she looks up to the giant boulder about to crush her, she sees instead a small rock, basically a pebble. It's the first crack in the facade that leads to breaking free of the illusion entirely.
"The bracelets are missing."
The bracelets (six in total) in question are...
- A Limiter designed to keep the wearer's powers in check
- because if they weren't they would erode their wielder's personality and reducing them and their identities to a mere concept a la The Executioner And Her Way Of Life. Also deifying them in the process
- said concepts are all destructive in nature, involving natural disasters, black holes, time manipulation, Unwilling Robotization, Hate Plague and feralness/regression.
Ultimately meaning that if they don't get the bracelets back in time, all six risk becoming gods and gods of destruction at that.
"Yo, why did Jenifer say she was returning tomorrow? I thought she was away for 2 months!"

The entire Gambit Pileup hinged on everyone but Alice planning on Jennifer not showing up for two months. Since she’s here early, a curveball has been thrown at everyone’s direction.
"Operation: Prometheus was a success.”
SKREEEEEEEONK!The protagonist spends a lot of the story trying to perform something called "Operation Prometheus", in which he steals "fire" (weaponry) from the "gods" (enemy ruling class). When he gets caught, he's sent off to undergo torture, and hears some hushed voices talking about how "Operation Prometheus" was a success... ergo, the point was to get him tortured, and he was working for his enemies the whole time.
"Tonight, we feast at nine."
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSpoken by one member of a trio that the narrative are following, as they face off with a hoard of non-sentient alien locusts (inexplicably shaped as regular domestic chickens) that is coming down on them in such numbers that they are darkening the horizon as they fly down upon them in frenzy...
...
"What on earth are you people talking about? This is just a game of Uno."
The audience and all but one of the players think they are in an Absurdly High-Stakes Game, only for someone to reveal it was just a normal game with no stakes. Later finding out that the participants paranoia would had caused them to destroy the world out of fear that their loss would had doomed it anyway until they were assured that aren't gonna lose something like their souls, their jobs or such.
"The culprit is...The shadows themselves!"
Edited by MorningStar1337 on Apr 30th 2022 at 7:51:07 AM
The Men in Black had been trying to keep the existence of the shadow creatures a secret for the entire plot and they had been doing various misdeeds just to keep them a secret. This was the first slip up in decades.
“I’m just looking for a girl with personality, you know?”
SKREEEEEEEONK!Spoken by someone who keeps on encountering women that are literal Empty Shells (as in hollowed out husks). This is their way of saying that they are looking for a woman who is alive. The Cosmic Horror Reveal occurs afterwards.

A character is spying on the Big Bad playing what seems to just be an innocuous game of chess. Then they use those words at the same time there are reports of mook attacks on the radar, and it's discovered the villain is controlling his mooks like literal chess pawns, with their actions syncing up with their movements in the game.
"I called my mom last week."
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessA dude has gotten away with a heinous crime that involved the object someone else's mother owns, with the son of said mother being the criminals' best friend. It hinges on said friend not having any contact with his mother at all (as the son is both too naive to realize his friend is staging a crime, and too honest to keep a secret from his mother). With the revelation that mother and son did have contact a week ago, our would be criminal realizes that his heist was actually a trap. The son prior to this has not given any indication that he had called his mother prior to this, fooling the criminal and the audience.
SWAT raid and arrests ensues immediately after.
