It's a big boat. Surely one shark can't do that much damage.

Unless it's a very big shark. Or a robot shark. Or Godzilla.

Besides which, it's like a small dog trying to get his teeth around a large ball.

Still, it might pierce a vital lowah area of the ship!

Again, that's kind of unlikely. Unless it has teeth made of diamonds or something. Still, pretty awesome way to go. Eaten by a diamond-toothed shark.
