Well, I don't think we've heard anything new about V recently, but I'm going through Master Of Arena right now and enjoying it quite a bit. It's a bit easier than some of the later installments, in part due to rather derpy AI (protip)

, but I don't really mind. Wasn't expecting Moonlight and Karasawa to actually be affordable in their first appearance, or for every single Arena Raven not packing weapon arms to mount the former, considering I never really got far enough to equip them in the later installments (then again I am terrible at the PS 2 games for some reason).

So, strategies, favorite AC configurations, Nine Ball horror stories, speculation about the setting of V, anything goes.

One particular Nine Ball horror story that came up to my mind: I was in a high Armored AC, armed with a Pistol, a sword, and some Missiles. When Nine Ball Seraph showed up, I keep on evading it's attacks, swerving left and right. At one point, I was at Close Range with Nine Ball Seraph, and it killed me by spamming it's blade attack at me.

The moral of the story: DO NOT ENGAGE NINE BALL SERAPH IN CLOSE COMBAT.

Okay, just finished the main plot of Master Of Arena.

All I can say is this: The Karasawa is broken. Broken broken broken broken.

Man it has been a while. The last AC game I played was vanilla 3.

I've only really played 2 and 3, and didn't beat either one.

I honestly spent more time coloring and designing the emblem for my mech than I did playing the actual missions.

Bleh.... Armored Core could've and would've been so much better in PS 2 at the start. But first thing's first, from 2 to 3, there's no analog support. They actually goofed up about studying the devkit. Then there's the whole thing about part mixing and balancing that runs on a formula that doesn't work properly (a mix of numbers instead of formulas)

Finally, there's always this big slab of beef : AI able to do things you won't be able to : using heavy weapons on backs without kneeling. Particularly on two feet. It doesn't get much better in 4 and 4A from what I've seen. They would take what they already did in the later PS 2 games, and put them Up To Eleven , like the very disadvantageous 1 AC / Next against many situation, extended cuts and more. It's what number mechanics suck in, they sap away the fun factor and appeal at the same time

Overall, I can't say Armored Core series has a bright future unless someone shoves the PS 1 game spirit right back

To be honest, I don't see why analog support is such a big deal. The games play just fine with the D-pad.

In fact I recall playing one that did allow analog support. I found it uncomfortable as hell and switched right back to the D-pads.

If I recall correctly, Nexus has analog support.

However, I prefer Master of Arena over Nexus, even though that Nexus is a good game, and it'll remain at my heart for being the first Armored Core game I own.

[up][up]This. To be honest, I thought it was actually harder to play when they added analogue support than when I was doing all my aiming with the L and R buttons.

Well, I'm an FPS kind of person then. My thumbs couldn't have been more relaxed if I stick to the old D-pad scheme. The buttons rubbing on my thumb would just pain me too much to concentrate

That might be it. I tend to do my FPSing on PCs rather than consoles.

Though, a part of it is that the Armored Core controls are similar to those of Mega Man Legends and King's Field, which are some of my favorite 3D games.

EDIT: Actually, there was another issue as well. I seem to recall the one analog-enabled AC game I played, if you selected the analog scheme, had the commands all mapped in a weird way that didn't make any sense, whereas the D-Pad way had them where you'd expect them to be. That, honestly, was more of a deal breaker (maybe even a nine deal breaker?) than the analog sticks themselves.
