Episode 8. In which there's blood and death.

I find myself liking Cou more and more. I usually don't like small and cute characters, but she's so fun and energetic I can't help but liking her.

Looks almost like Marisa there.

Well, I can see where Cou gets it from.

I almost didn't expect him to be on their side at that time. I did expect him to have bathroom incidents, though. Which is the only acually accidental time we've seen relating to him so far. Guess he developed a taste.

She seems a little embarrassed by telling her how he relates to her.

I like Clari's outfit.

Every hero's journey starts with fighting slimes. Or rats. But this time it's slimes.

Juding by what she says and the theme of the series, they're going to be "in danger" soon. Yup.

I was waiting for them to show up. Unsurprisingly, young Hina is cute.

That's a... surprisingly simple explanation for their age. Does that make them part demon?

Generation Xerox, much?

I think they have enough swords.

Caught her tongue on the wrong pronoun?

I agree with chibi-Cou after the ED and [up][up]. It was rather moving, simple as it was. It's the kind of uplifting sadness you sometimes find in stories, where straight happiness just feels false and overly saccharine. Yes, I'm saying that about this anime.

Valerie was pretty dashing back in the day...

Well now, that kind of fills in a whole lot of missing information about the history of Flognarde, and how things actually got to this point. Also I think we can fill in the blanks a bit here about the lineage of the current ruling family of Pastillage too — Fi never married, Valerio was the crown prince, and apparently he and Adelaide sleep in the same bed. Can't really be so obvious than that. ;)

That said, where does Cinque come in though? Cou mentioned in season 2 that on her own, the monument didn't react to her, but if we believe what Adelaide said, she had no relatives left before she got summoned.

And finally, LOL at Valerie initially becoming the Demon King so he wouldn't be bothered with his research, and THEN getting into it so much because it was fun.

EDIT: To quote another post in another forum — QUICK! We need Milhi's and Leo's ancestors. Lets swap their boobs around!

Yam's entirely sensible review of these last three episodes: Leaf is adorable. Young Hina is adorable. Young demon researcher nerd Valerie who is not a demon king as all is adorable. And for some reason I really like Fi's voice.

[up][up] She didn't say she had no relatives. She essentially said that no one would miss her. I assume that means she was an outcast back home; perhaps the illegitimate daughter of some nobleman who he took in out of obligation, but then he died and while she was allowed to stay on no one really gave a damn about whether she lived or died.

That aside, we totally need a spin-off telling us the whole story. That sounded like far too awesome an adventure to be relegated to a bunch of flashbacks.

[up][up][up]Generation Xerox all around.[lol]

It really did feel like a RPG. At the start of the journey, they fought low-level monsters. Then along the way, they fought more threatening monsters, met powerful allies, gained more EXP and awesome weapons until they became the dream team.

Oh, so Hina would've been stuck as a kid if it wasn't for Val's research. Speaking of Val, his reason for becoming the Demon King at the time was funny. And sensible. Can't have people getting too complacent now, hehe.

Fi paved the path towards the current peace of the world. And her final battle was a demon that specialized in poison. What a sad coincidence... But she rests happy, knowing that the peace she fought so hard to create wasn't a short and shaky one.smile

I almost wrote that exact joke, but for some reason decided not to.

And for some reason I really like Fi's voice.
Yeah, it's very pleasant.

Well of course, it's not like Adelaide gave a virgin birth to a line of squirrel people.

I thought the monument reacted to Cinque because of his hero status, not because of a blood relation to Adele.

[up][up] Oh wow, I was going to make that same joke too.

Episode 9. In which there's a Space Whale.

Back to her again. Does that mean the plot starts up again? Seems about time.

Between sparring and talking, I think I'd pick sparring too.

She makes a good entrance.

Cou doesn't flap her arms quickly enough to fly. Also, I think it's a bit redundant to draw her as a chibi. Also also, not fond of that chibi style.

Hey, look. The camera was focused on Yuki while she was talking, and her breasts didn't bounce. I find that notable.

They're surprised that yet another legendary person is real?

Sometimes, they have to actually work to be royalty. Well, that only excludes three of them. I do wonder why it seems like Leo's ordering Leaf around, though. I'd somehow find it more appropriate to see Vert ordering him around.

That place looks pretty much like the rest of the lands. Very much.

What did they expect? It's a whale. In space. Of course it's huge. Also, most things tend to be bigger up close. It's kind of how vision works.

So that's how it looked strange. It's supposed to look even more strange.

I now recognise the word "poi".

Well, it's where they were heading anyway.

Such a dashing merman. Not sure Cou agrees, though. Also, I wonder where he got that book. The question usually following is not obligatory.

Well, she's cute. I like the hair. And how expressive she is. And it would be more surprising if she isn't the priestess they're looking for.

And she isn't. Neat.

And the actual priestess fights with spiked knuckles. Also neat. Not quite the most common priestess weapon. And she looks like a cat.

Aria joins the Genoise in the ED. Totally going to be a new shipping target.

Sky Sea. They have a Sky Sea. If Flonyard wasn't already the #1 place to visit, it would be now.

This is what'd call entering with style.

That was a helpful explanation, courtesy of the chibis.

I do wonder if they'll actually sit this one out, or will they show up later.

Sky Sea is as cool as advertised. And Star Whale is big.

Wouldn't be an adventure if they didn't get separated.

Gaul met a girl! Gaul met a girl!tongue

Aria talks telepathically, has no memories, no animal ears and Isn't the priestess. Very mysterious.

Well now, that's a big girl.

This is shaping up to be an interesting arc. Keep it up!

Episode 9:

  • Heya, Sharl! If you're reappearing, then something cool's about to happen.
  • Flonyard grows more impressive by the day.
  • Ah, the pain of being rulers of your country; work before play.tongue
  • Welcome to the Sky Sea, home of northern lights.
  • Can't wait to see what Rico's got in her box.
  • I am so tempted to call the Star Whale "Space Wailord".tongue
  • They were separated finely. Was hoping the groups would've been more varied.
  • Gaul was more separated from everyone else. But thanks to that, he found the Sky Priestess! ...She is the Sky Priestess, yes?tongue
  • Demons of a different kind appear. But no problem, they got this.
  • Hm? Sharl didn't recognize Aria...? Then, that means...
  • Ah, there's the Sky Priestess! She's that woman from the opening. And her weapon of choice is one of the least priest-like weapons ever. She be a Monk.tongue

It actually was surprising that the mute girl wasn't the princess. She's probably the spirit of the Star Whale or something, then.

Mermaids are a thing in this series. Space mermaids even. Aria one of them too despite having legs.

When I heard that the Sky Whale can be healed by singing, I immediately though of Milhi. And of course they are bringing her up. I knew she won't be sitting this one out.

I'll be damned they actually explained what's the deal with Gaul and Genoise is. This season really gives us all the answers.

Uh, oh some evil, demonic afro dude showed up and started kicking ass, and just when most of the crew is away. Quickly Gaul, some creep is after your girl!

Wow, Farine's a giantess.

And now, a colony of astral mermaids. Unfortunately, the flu season's kinda bad this time around.tongue

Rico's box of secret items sure is handy.tongue

What to do when a star singer is inconvenienced by something? Find a suitable replacement, of course! Millhi, clear your schedule. You're gonna be a star.tongue

Genoise ain't interested in childhood friend romances.

Well excuse me, Mr. Possessive! But you took out Yuki, Sharl and Farine with relative ease. Not bad...

Episode 10. Which isn't that interesting.

So that's how small she was.

That place reminds me of those Nazca Lines.

Does that make them starfish people?

Is that supposed to be under water?

I kind of wonder why she brought that thing. Doesn't quite seem like it would normally be usable in a sky world. Reminds me of Skalman.

Being able to sing isn't that wonderous. And having a kind heart like that isn't all too rare in that world either.

You know, I kind of doubt the importance of the singer's heart if a recording is enough.

Oh, look, Vert is in the process of no longer holding a tray again. Why does anyone let her get close to open containers with liquid in them after all those times? Also, nicely worn outfit by her boss.

Yeah, they're totally shipping him with Aria.

Doesn't seem too interesting of a person, honestly.

I'll be damned they actually explained what's the deal with Gaul and Genoise is.
Haven't they implied as much previously, if not said it out loud? Didn't come off as new information to me.

Episode 11 is out:

Verde you little shit. Seriously, what selfish brat. Thankfully Gaule was there to fix his attitude.

"What we need is not sacrifice but information and a plan!" - I like this attitude. Too often nobody bothers to even think before trying to sacrifice themselves.

Cinque is here, time to kick some ass.

Looks like everyone came to help. Even Eclair who I honestly forgot existed.

That's the ugliest Pegasus I ever saw.

C-C-COMBO ATTACK!

The least they could do was give the song some lyrics. Were they running out of budget or what? Well, in any case Milhi saved the day, and I like her outfit.

Aww, the next episode is the last. What will I do without my weekly dose of fluff? sad

I like how the Mermaids/Sky People aren't bothered by the fact that they're living inside the body of a continent-sized whale. Really puts things in perspective.

Episode 11. In which there's astounding stupidity.

They're really laying it on thick with the ship teasing, aren't they?

That was the promise? That just... well, it beats Sora No Method in terms of pettiness and sheer stupidity. It's actually worse than the old, "I'll kill the one she loves so she'll love me!" plot you see so often. On the other hand, it's thanks to him her wish will come true.

I wonder how he missed that the humans was the very reason she wanted to go to the surface in the first place. Maybe he's just that stupid?

With a name like that, I sure wonder what his true form is. Actually not that bad.

"I'm sorry I asked you to save the world by doing what you love." That's what I heard her say.

Such beautiful text in that song.

Hey, she has eyes. Highlight of the episode. Just too bad it's not a close-up. I'm not sarcastic here, by the way.

Episode 12. In which they say goodbye.

Everyone can be forgiven. Theme of the series.

Definitely one of the best costume swaps so far.

"Yahoo!"

He's cute.

She wants out of her little square. Just don't touch the fourth wall.

I was unsure about whether it was just translated as "he" without having a definite gender, but now I'm a little more sure.

Was that carpet that big before? Well, A Wizard Did It is a perfectly acceptable explanation here.

"Saved". Well, I suppose that's the polite thing to say.

I thought she'd tease him more about Aria than just some possibly subtle nudging.

And of course the resident tsundere would frown at things resembling showing affection.

I wonder how it would feel inside the whale while it's swimming like that.

I'm almost surprised Aria didn't follow to the surface.

Cou's itching for a fight. I like Cou.

Perfectly safe, and unlike the other similar rain, it doesn't remove anyone's clothes.

How would Millhi know when Becky's sad so she would call her?

Cou's aggressively friendly.

Kinda funny with her telling him about his childhood.

I think they're spending a lot of time just getting home. Not exactly the most exciting thing they can have in an episode. And it's not like they've not shown that before either.

I was looking at the end picture, trying to find everyone, which is a little hard when it's so super deformed, and saw someone who looked like Cou. "Nah, can't be her. She's not smiling widely enough." Sure enough, that wasn't her.

All well that ends well.

They saved the whale, saved Aria, even saved Verde. Everyone's happy an all is well in the world. Another vacation draws to a close so it's time to say goodbye's. Fortunately not for long it seems. After all If you want to be with somebody, you don't need more reason than that.

This season did good job world building and giving a spotlight to various characters, but I'm already looking out for more. Like where do all those cursed blades come from, how is Cinque actually related to Adelle, and when he's finally going to confess to Millhi.

I hope that next season will come out swiftly this time, because there is no anime that raises up my mood quite like this one does.
