Anyone here remember Beakman's World? I remember this being on saturday mornings when I was a kid. If I recall correctly it came on after Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Conan the Adventurer on saturdays, just you know, on a different channel. And before anyone says this was a Bill Nye rip-off I'd like to point out that this episode was aired in 1992. Bill Nye wouldn't air until 1993, so Bill Nye is technically ripping-off this.

Anyway have an opening.

@Will: I knew of it, but never watched more than a snippet here and there. Not that it was bad, of what I saw, just that I wasn't really interested. Besides, I've always been more of a Mr. Wizard's World fan. tongue (I know the Nickelodeon run wasn't the original, but I'm too young to have seen Watch Mr. Wizard.)

@Bacon: There are far worse things to have stuck in one's head. grin (I was a late-comer to Phantasm, though, only having seen it on DVD well after it was out in theaters. I was a big-time fan of BTAS, though.)

@Taira: I agree, for all it was chopped short, Exosquad kicked much ass. I picked up the DVD boxed set shortly after it came out, and haven't regretted the purchase in the slightest. (Of course, it was only like $20 or so at B&N, so not too much to regret even if I didn't like it. tongue )

I haven't actually seen Mask of the Phantasm. I've heard it's really good and I have seen some of BTAS, but I don't know where to find it (at least for free).

^ The WB's website has some BTAS, 20 full episodes including what looks like all the extra-awesome ones (or at least those I can remember).

I suspect it's US-only like a lot of things, though.

Don't worry, the UK gets all their cool Doctor Who stuff.

And thank you.

Where do I begin?

Being born in the mid-90s I have barely any recollection of the decade. I do remember that the first TV show I ever saw was Rockos Modern Life in 1999, my mom remembers loving Sponge Bob when it came out, and my dad remembers seeing Baby Geniuses. I have no idea what he thought about it.

Most of the 90s shows I saw were the ones that lasted into the early 2000s - Cat Dog, The Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold, even reruns of Doug. I definitely know I've seen every cartoon Nick and Cartoon Network made at the time.

Anybody remember Living Books? They were these interactive CD-RO Ms based on kids' books. They were fun at the time, and revisiting them, some do have good animation.

I remember American Gladiators used to be on Saturday evenings right around the time I'd take my bath. I remember watching the end of an episode, having a bath, and coming out to watch the later part of Blade Warriors, which was basically American Gladiators but with in-line skates. I also remember watching Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future on Saturday nights.

There was a series on PBS, the Computer Chronicles. All about computers and such. There were the Mac fanboys, but intel got some love as well.

The the Internet came. Science Marches On led to some Were Still Relevant Dammit eps but it folded.

There was a thing called "Cybercast" where data was embeded in the broadcast signal...but you needed a specail TV tuner to get the data adn by the time this was read they had a website.....

Good times.

1999 counts, right? I hope it does, because this guy is really funny.

[up][up]Oh lord yes, the Computer Chronicles. It's actually freely available now through the Internet Archive, believe it or not. Jupiter Broadcasting also shows it weekly after the Linux Action Show livestreams.

Wow! I wonder if Beyond Tomorrow or some of the other "internet" and "cyberspace" themed shows are around.

The Discovery Channel had a few, but that stupid "da-dun..click-click" noise had me p.o.'d. It was followed by an animation of a cursor and a large chyron with www.longwebaddressforyoutotryandcopyin10seconds.com.

Yes kiddies, that's how we did it back in the days before the tiny url's, the twitter and the smart phone with your QR codes. We had to get a pen and paper! Gasp!!

[up] By hand? Oh my... I, like a dweeb, sometimes tried to memorize the passwords to my stuff.

Sidenote: I did not truly get "real" internet until the late 2000's, if I can recall correctly. Boy was I fond of the 56K "music", telephoto faxes, and beepers... No, seriously!

Also, does anyone besides me here feel that the wonders of their childhood become crushingly obsolete when you see some 10 or 12 year old "text and tweet their BFF's" and call the COLOR Game Boy "Old school"? The nerve of 'em! I mean please, it was as sleek as the Pocket, but it HAD COLOR... and an optional external light source

Come on! I can't be the only one who always wanted a Booster Boy, can I? And this solved more problems than it caused! [lol]

I mean that, when I received my first cell phone in middle school, I was (and still am) in awe at how it "flipped" open. Perhaps this is because I upgraded to the popular tech later than most people, and was just young enough to not know of things like The "Internet", but when social networking became fully realized in the mainstream(The World Wide Web, AOL Instant Messenger, GOOGLE, My Space), only then was I old enough to use and understand them as some kind of Future Tech just invented.

Even then, the latest and greatest to me was somewhat outdated, and mocked in the schoolhalls. Phones with no clumsy external antenna! and "SMS capable" 'Smart' cellular phones ''with Duel-color, touch displays'' where like the hip thing for me.

I might be only "collage age" now but, sigh... I was too young to own one then, but now I'm too old to use one today.

This might sum up the loss I now feel. To arm myself with such mighty tools.

[up]That pic needs to get into Technology Marches On. [awesome]

There was some mid 90's movie theater that flashed http://www.reaaalylongwebaddress.com/Þbunchofstuff/thisisawebpageyouhavetotypeaswell.html

For a special "offer" (I think it was a season pass or tickets to new releases). This was in a movie theater so it provoked more laughter than let's try this special offer.

The "Itty Bitty Book Light". Mine took four C batteries and weighted 2 pounds!

[up] Thanks I'll go ahead and look it up see if it'll fit smile.

"Itty bitty"?... that's false advertisement! You should write down the name of the product and company toll free phone number right now before the commercial goes off and call collect to complain!

I'll get the phone book! Just give me 45 minutes and I'll get you the Better Business Bureau's hotline. evil grin

Also these might not even be the proper words but it just popped into my head:

''Pepper Ann! Pepper Ann! My best friend is Pepper Ann!

Pepper Ann! Pepper Ann, she is amazzzzing!

Pepper Ann! Pepper Ann! All the guys love Pepper Ann and now she's late to class cause of the song!...'' B'Rrrrring

You know my fellow 90's nostalgia Tropers, I find it a bit interesting that a hundred years from now we may become what I saw as rad back in the 1890's. Perhaps 60 years from now we'll have another Woodstock of the future... or perhaps another Industrial Revolution of the future or even the Y 3 K console war. That would be an interesting sight, assuming we would still use consoles and wouldn't go straight to VR.

Too bad 90's stuff isn't popular right now; it's all 80's stuff.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah that's pretty much bad news for all of us pokemon card collectors with several tens of thousands of dollars invested waiting for the stocks to go back up.... Oy

Unless you have a Shadowless holo first edition Charizard

Oh and make sure it gets authenticated through PSA with at least 8 to 10 on the scale. Preferably like 9 or 10 if it is mint and I mean Mint!

I feel kind of weird because the 80's stuff is my parents' generation, and most of the stuff from my generation sucks.

But the nineties had some cool stuff.

Wow the 80's!?

Raised purely by my grandparents, I was at home with stuff from the 50's and 60's as much as I was stuff from the 90's.

Doo wop, Cadillacs and all that jazz, Pokemon, Digimon and digital pizzazz!

But a lot of the good shows that started in the late 90's problably hit their peak in the 2000's so that's gotta count for something, right?

Kids WB comes to mind... list of shows that they had
