And now for your daily dose of perspective:
Gainax +Ending — 57,200 google results
Xanatos +Gambit — 104,000 google results
Draco +"leather pants" — 139,000 google results
David Hasselhoff +"Germany" — 262,000 google results
Scrappy +Hated — 1,020,000 google results
Capcom +Sequels — 1,540,000 google results
Jetson +"fired" — 1,560,000 google results
Zeno +Paradox — 2,280,000 google results (or if you want to get more specific, Achilles +Turtle — 2,400,000 google results)
So how about we stop lobbing around the "requires familiarity!—" argument. It saddens me every time to see our metric for how much slack we cut something is degrees of separation from MTV.
Just to make it clear, I do think this needs to be renamed since "race" is just neither here nor there.

Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toMost of those examples kept their name because they had become used in the fandom. Since most of them are not actual separate concepts, but just trope names, of course there are going to be much lower Google results.
The big problem I see is that Zeno's Race is a preexisting term, and it doesn't mean what we say it means. Zenos Pace is better, but it requires people to know that the mathematical concept is called Zeno's Race. Few people know paradoxes by name.
Everyone Has An Important Job To DoGoogle wicks is probably closer to being a poor measure of notability than a poor measure of widespread familiarity. "General Relativity" has 2,500,000 results but I wouldn't presume that a pun based on Stress-Energy tensors would work.
First google result for "Zeno" is http://myzeno.com/ the makeup and acne cream maker....
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!@ SSOT: "General relativity" has 2,500,000 results, but "stress-energy tensor" only has 314,000.
I didn't write any of that.Yeah but it don't compare. "decreases by half" has only 86,000 results. You can't just know that there is something about Zeno and time out there, you have to know the workings (or lack there of) of the paradox.

Can I call it now? It's been at 3.25:1 for a day now and before that it was growing from about 2:1. We should probably start on alternative titles.
I think of Exponential Plot Delay.
Exponential Plot Delay sounds like a perfect name for this particular brand of Myth Stall. I like it.

Its an ok name I guess it still sounds a little harsh... Its going to need a flame bait banner as this trope becomes better known (We are expanding it quite a bit). Even though its not always a bad thing since most of the time the series shifts to character interaction or a expanding cast over other things but this trope makes it seem like its a very bad thing.
99% of anime and manga that have any kind of Arc format are going to be on this thing.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Exponential Decay is not a bad thing, it's simply descriptive. That said, it might be thought of as negative.
Fight smart, not fair. While I admire the spirit of trying to preserve a non - Lowest Common Denominator - type name, anything with decay in the title may as well be renamed Complain Here.

Yeah, it probably will be. I'm not sure what the basic level of mathematics is to get something like that.
Fight smart, not fair.Maybe we should go away from "decay" and go the other direction.
What about Exponential Arc Expansion? As the series goes on the arcs get longer.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Minor tidbit- I said delay, not decay.
Crowners swapped.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Another suggestion: Progressive Plot Slowdown

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I put it in there.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Delay and slowdown still sound like a bad thing. But this trope is very YMMV on if it is a bad thing or not depending on how it's handled it could be a very good thing for some series.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Since this crowner's been stable since March with Exponential Plot Delay in the clear lead I did the rename.
After reading through the thread, I've also got a new text for your consideration. It drops the double example-as-a-thesis, most of the complaining and reworks the concept from the point of view of what the writer is achieving and how.
Does that seem like a positive change in the light of the problems we've been raising?
Very much improved!
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I would mention Plot Coupons as a way in which the marks of a plot are set. That's pretty much exactly how we have a half way and a quarter way and so on- 4 gym badges, 2 gym badges etc.
Although on the main page, the improvement from simply not having to explain Xeno's paradox is phenomenal.
^Good point. Added a note on Plot Coupons.
In the Sandbox I notice that Triple Elation has added the material I wish to propose dropping. I moved this new version to its own page: I'm proposing we simplify the text (drop Intro Dump, etc) and limit the text that has a tone of complaint (drop text around Plot Tumour, etc). The merged version is at Exponential Plot Delay Alternate.
So far response to the new version Exponential Plot Delay seem fairly positive. But given it's a big change, I've made a crowner. I put the alternate sandbox onto the crowner, as well as the option of no change.

Crown Description:
No it's not unanimous. If you want to call for a rename crowner, do so, SSOT.
