Accepted, Starbound. It can even be Akira, if you like - she's got a bit of a knight complex.

Signups are now closed pending review of Nick The Swing's characters.

These two are essentially there to serve as potential love interests, with the objective being to recreate the Sayako and Kyosuke scenario, but on a slightly bigger scale.

Or if you need Distressed Dude's to be affected by a Witch so they can be rescued by the girls.

I'm not sure, Swing. I'm not a fan of character-as-devices in roleplay; if they don't change, they don't grow, and there's no point in including them. Can you maybe drop one of the two guys and focus on fleshing out the other a bit more?

Had a hard time choosing who to cast. In the end, I decided to go with the first one I created...

Name: Akiko Akane

City: There's only one place left to go

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Appearance: short black hair that tends to obscure her eyes somewhat. Cold black eyes. Of average height (155cm~? Not really important). Always wears a hoodie, hood on, even in summer. As a magical girl, she is not much different. Her outfit is grey, adorned with red streaks and hooded. Has cuts in it to allow for free movement. No, it doesn't have a cape, although I'll admit that it bears resemblance to the outfit of the Assassins. Soul Gem is on her chest.

Personality: Akiko Akane - an apparent delinquent. The most important person in the world is her brother. Left school to join her brother's gang. Akiko tries to act like a delinquent in order to fit in. She acts cold and ruthless and understands never to lift the facade even in the most dire of circumstances. Prefers to think and analyse in silence rather than discuss with people. Somewhat pragmatic. Tends not to talk much but is prone to be confrontational if talked to as it has become a habit. Comes off as a difficult person and hard to like, but she cares deeply for the few people she knows well. Despite the gang being general jerkasses most of the time, they are tight-knit and she values her friendship with all of them. She made her wish around the time when a rival gang invades her ineffectual gang's turf, turns it into Serious Business, kidnaps and nearly kills her brother along with a few others. She takes on the role of a magical girl extremely seriously as she views it as a way to protect her circle of friends. That was about a year ago, so she could be considered a rookie magical girl. During that time, she went under the tutelage of another magical girl in another city who she knew personally as a human. In the process, she began to understand the nature of her powers better but an incident that killed her mentor put her training to at abrupt end, leaving her with little choice but to return to Kaikan. Aki still keeps contact with the gang but her new, unspoken-about job threatens to take up most of her time and her friendships with the members are already drifting further apart...

Wish: I want to protect the people who are my friends and help them defeat (destroy) their enemies.

Wish derived special ability: Akiko doesn't have much in way of offensive capabilities. She is an expert with a knife, but that doesn't count for much against demons. Rather, her magic excels at defense and support. She can create an(one, 1) nearly impenetrable magical barrier that will protect anyone inside it. It requires little amounts of magic to maintain as long as she keeps it small (~10m radius), though strong hits will require more magic to keep the barrier up. It is still a very efficient counterattack as the magic required to maintain the barrier is small compared to the amount of power it can reflect. Akiko's main form of solo offense is really simply reflecting attacks. Even if her enemies were to strike the barrier with a physical attack, the power behind the strike will be reflected onto the attacker. Against demons, her attacks are more like harassing techniques to goad them into attacking her with powerful strikes because it makes better use her magic. Rather than wasting magic inefficiently powering up her offensively-weak weapons to attack directly, it is far more economical to expend a smaller amount of magic deflecting attacks back at the enemy.

She can also use her barrier to slice enemies ala Portal Cut, but it is slow work compared to her otherwise lightning-speed movements, requires her getting dangerously close to her enemies, needs her to wield her defender and reduces the barrier's defensive abilities to a bare minimum. She cannot easily evade or block attacks while attacking this way. It is not really her style of offense as it is highly risky, so her proficiency in it is not good. Therefore, it is best not to use it unless as a last resort or a sneak attack.

Weapon: Rather than her barriers however, it is her defenders that best represents her wish. Akiko has two. She is able to temporarily give other magical girls her defenders to aid them in their attacks. When a defender passes into someone else's ownership, it transforms into whatever armament that best suits its recipient. If the recipient uses guns for example, she may use it as a powerful regenerating bullet, magazine or a secondary gun. If a recipient uses spears, it could be used as a javelin or a backup spear. Even something unorthodox like a skateboard or a guitar will find a use for it (blades, boosters, a plectrum or amplifier). The recipient's imagination is its limit. Either way, the method does not really matter because the principle is that Akiko uses her magic to supplement the recipient's magic. In the hands of others, their offensive potential far outmatches what she can do with her rather onerous offensive abilities (compared to the much more straightforward abilities of other magical girls). For roughly the same amount of magic output, giving them to a first-rate magical girl who is very close to her would be akin to converting a pipe bomb into a precision airstrike.

Supporting other magical girls like this produces results she can never hope to accomplish fighting alone. How much support she is able to supply depends on whether she considers the person a 'friend', 'acquaintance' or even 'enemy'. The closer the bond, the greater the magnification in power. Akiko does not know this yet. Even then, supporting someone at maximum output can easily exhaust her as it is still consuming her magic so she limits it to however much she feels necessary. So far, she has yet to give one to someone she considers an enemy, so it is difficult to tell what exactly may come out of it...

The defenders are unique (there are only two; no spamming mass copies), will always return to her if she wills it and she can teleport them, usually into the hands of other magical girls. Giving one to a muggle friend can turn him or her from a defenseless redshirt into an extremely skilled knife fighter but she will lose one of her two weapons which are better wielded in the hands of magical girls...

In Akiko's hands, the defenders are silvery, straight, flat double-edged blades with a cross handguard each and with lengths a little less than shortswords. They are elegant, if simple weapons which have been crafted with the objective of deflecting attacks in mind. Still, they are magical and are rather sharp, so they have some offensive capabilities. Despite their relative weakness as offensive magical weapons, they are comfortable, well-balanced and flexible weapons. Akiko can effectively use them for slashing, chopping, hacking, throwing and stabbing, in reverse or forward grip.

Akiko is no slouch fighting alone with the defenders and they are required for her to perform her more offensive maneuvers, but their true potential lies not so much in using them as solo offensive weapons but as heavily souped-up support artifacts.

Other: Does not like giving out her name to strangers. If she has to give a name, 'Aki' will, must and has to suffice. End of story.

What are the Defenders shaped like when Aki holds them? What sort of offensive capability do they have - bladed, puncturing, etc?

Aside from that, it looks good... I'm a little wary about her social withdrawal, but as long as she can still grow and change as a character, she'll be good. Be careful with it, though.

Nicktendonick, if you get a character sheet for either girl (not both!) in to me, I'll review it, and I'll consider expanding the character slots to 11. Aside from that, signups are now full and closed until further notice.

It's been fun.

Well, the thing about Akiko is that her wish and powers have friendship as a central theme but ironically, she finds it hard to make friends. Even so, her powers will force her to try and be more sociable if she is true to her desire to protect her friends from demons because the best way to use her powers is to make friends. You could say that her wish-given powers reflect perhaps a small desire to form bonds as she forgoes her chances to do so when she chose to follow her brother.

OK, for the bottom of the waiting list when this re-opens:

  • Name: Matsuki Beniko (Family, Given)
  • City: Kaikin
  • Age: 15
  • Gender: Male, initially.
  • Appearance: Beniko is a fairly average sized boy, possibly a bit shorter than normal (to the point where he could probably be mistaken for a girl at first glance), with short, scruffy cherry red hair and blue eyes. As a girl, she's slimmed down a bit more, and her hair now spills over her shoulders.
  • Personality: Beniko has grown up seeing himself as something of a failure; the youngest of three boys, he knew that in truth his Parents wanted a daughter when he was born, hence why he's been going through life with what most people would consider a female name, along with believing (possibly correctly) that they resented him for being a boy. As a result, he seems to switch between trying to prove he's not a failure, and at the same time accepting it, the combination of which eventually influenced his wish.
  • Wish: “I wish I could be what my parents wanted all along...”
  • Wish derived special ability: Dependant on GM moderation, possibly some form of low-level unconscious memory manipulation that only works on people not in the loop.
  • Weapon: Beniko's weapon is a simple pink and white spiral-striped bo staff that can be charged with magical energy to increase its striking power.
  • Magical Girl Costume: Beniko's costume resembles a pink leotard, with a paler pink short skirt around it, white thigh-highs with pink stripes and white elbow length detached sleeves. She also wears a pair of what look like pink ballet shoes and a white band in her hair to keep it from falling forward.

I won't use them as just characters as plot devices.

While that is what you might be able to use them for, Red Savant, I plan on evolving both of them from where they start to fully fleshed out characters by the end.

Its not in my character to neglect or discard one character in favor of another.

Unfortunately, we're full on signups (with the possible exception of Nicktendonick), so it's a null point. I do also reserve the right to ask you to focus on one character, as well, in order to keep character clutter down to a minimum.

Okay then, maybe if there are future cities, I could put one guy in one city and another in a second city.

Thus I can have one character.

But maybe next time when a future city opens up.

Ok, thank you for keeping that slot for me open.

Time to submit my girl .

  • Name: Yasuko Yuri
  • City: [that new city, since everyone calls it that]].
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: Medium length blond hair, neatly combed. She usually dresses prim and proper and always tries to look her best.

  • Personality: Intraverted, somewhat shy and usually reserved in her actions. Has a strong moral compass and dutifully follows it and will self-sacrifice if the situation calls for it. Deep down, she gets scared easily.
She's in the beginning stages of Knight In Soul Armour . She does realize what type of life she's thrown herself into, but feels that it was the right thing to do.

  • Sexuality: Bisexual. Definitely one stage above closet pervert, and lusts after both sexes equally
  • Faith: Christianity
  • Nationality: Unknown. Half Asian at least, she looks somewhat Asian.
  • Backstory: Abandoned as a pup, he was found by Murial After giving birth to Yasuko, Yasuko's mother abandoned her daughter infront of a hospital inside japan. As the parents could not be found, Yasuko went into foster care and was adopted by a Japanese couple when she was 6 months. She's been a part of their family since. Her father is a always busy Japanese businessman and her mother is...(I haven't come up with anything) a loving mother. The couple have been having much trouble conceiving, and in the end they adopted Yasuko. She picked up a guitar at a young age and fell in love with it. Against what her father would have wanted, Yasuko's goal in life is to become a musician, and the best guitarist ever. (and we all know how well this will end).
But none of that matters anymore. She became a magical girl, and now knows her past life doesn't mean much anymore...

Magical Girl

  • Wish: “I wish the trains would freeze!”
  • Wish backstory: Kyubey noticed her and like the others, presented itself to her and made his usual offer. She was hesitant on making a wish, wondering what to come up with. The next day (with Kyubey still asking) Yasuko saw a incident very close to happening. One train couldn't stop and was going to hit another train. Seeing the incident, and seeing how she had the power to save them, she made her wish to save them. “I wish the trains would freeze!”. Both trains instantly froze, crystals consuming them and the track. Some people experienced minor whiplash (one critically who wasn't sitting down). but reguardless, all one hundred and three people on both trains were saved.
  • Wish derived special ability: Crystal creation. She has the power to create crystals. A basic application of this power is to make crystals, or barriers made of crystals. She can also crystallize her staff to make it into a another type of weapon.
Crystals are not the strongest material and they don't take too much break if they are shoddily made. The more magic she pumps into it and the better her focus, the more sturdy her crystals will be and the tougher they are to break. One can tell easily with how clear the crystals are.
  • Weapon: Staff. She can create a staff of varying sizes, including mini-sticks and slightly thick staffs. With her crystal creation, she can turn this into another type of weapon (like making a scythe edge on her staff or creating a spike ontop to make a improv speak for example.)
  • Magical Girl Costume: Pending. Main colors are skyblue and white.
  • Other: She knows that magical girls's souls are inside soul gems. Unlike others, she actually feels a bit...glad about it. She also knows about the Heat-death of the universe and how to turn off her body's pain/feeling.
  • Fighting skill: Poor. She has never truly been in any fights prior to becoming a magical girl.
  • Notes: Game wise, Yasuko has “very high MP" in comparison to other girls. It just means she can go longer before running out. Yet, this also means she needs much more demons then most people to refill.
  • Magic :It takes 17 normal demons to completely refill her soul gem / magic. (Logic: It takes ten for Hourma, and she has low capacity. Does this sound high enough. It was 17-21 in my head)

That should be everything. something tells me I'm missing something, but I think that's everything.

So, what'd you think of the ending?

Just one or two quick questions - how did she find out about the Soul Gems? Also, have you given any thought to the barrier physics? Can she make them in midair, for example, and if so, how do they react to being attacked? Would a barrier hit with massive force not concentrated on any one point (by a Demon's backhand, for instance) move, or would it simply break regardless of the fact that the whole thing had experienced a flat force?

It's been fun.

Two questions:

1) Are you still accepting sign ups and

2) Male characters. I saw a Mt F transexual who asked to become biologicaly female, a boy whose wish was to become a girl because of his parents and a third guy who became a girl because of his wish. Would it be possible for another boy to become a girl because of his wish? My idea for the guy in question is a bit stupid.
